  1. That's right...a box with good synchro's shouldn't have any issues with this. If I do it I usually ease it in gently so the cluister can be bought up to matching speed etc
  2. Ok, I might have a look at what I can do there. Thanks for your input!
  3. Hi Birds, Yep that's what I'm thinking but was also seeing of it's an oil issue....but then, it ran flawlessly no matter what oil I was running....so yes, must be mechanical as you say. Yep that's what I have heard other's say too - that it simply masks the problem. You use lightweight to mask small problems and heavy weight to mask bigger problems The sad thing is that I did ask them to inspect the box before hand but they said that "she'll be fine" (because they got it from someone they "trusted") Argh! As for the 75w90, I ran that in my old box and in my GTST box...ran flawlessly Guess I'll be getting onto my mechanic and seeing what they can do for me. More $$$
  4. I see, may I ask what oil you were using? I'm happy to try a couple different ones to see if they make a difference. I've heard a lot of good but also a bit of bad news about the Redline range etc. And yep, sometimes the box feels like it shifts better at warmer temps but it will still do it's little "catch" thing at around 3000-3500rpm shifts.
  5. Hi all, Here are some pics of the repaired manifold now ready to be mounted on a 26 out there! Dented runner has been replaced with a new bit, cleaned and repainted. Will throw in collector side studs, gasket and nuts. Will post to anywhere in Australia as per other parts that have been sold already.
  6. That's an interesting thing you're doing there but luckily I do have my old box to compare to which ran perfectly till I cooked it. No matter what temp, oil or RPM that old box shifted flawlessly so I dare say it might be the synchros. So how much oil are you running in your GTST? I'm running around the 3.8L mark with a little bit taken out when I put the additive in. I should also add that she'll not "catch/notch" at the RPM where it does it if you shift fast ;-) But I just want to be able to shift normally.
  7. Hi All, Thought I'd write up my gearbox issue on here with the hope that someone else has had similar problems....it goes a little something like this: A couple months ago I had a "new" second hand gearbox put in after having cooked my old one thanks to the wrong oil and amounts having been put in. Now, ever since I've had the new one you'd feel a slight catch when you shift from 2nd to 3rd...as if a gear tooth is getting nicked just before disengagement/engagement. It only happens under sat, 3000rpm and shifts smoothly above that. Too avoid the little crunch I shift up slower in sync with the feedback felt through the gear stick. I switched to Redline's lightweight oil when I got the box which made things a bit better and also enabled it to shift into 1st while rolling - something it didn't do before that. I'm thinking it would have something to do with the synchros, maybe heavy duty clutch adjustment/travel, and maybe the oil, or all of the above. If someone could get back to me on what they think might be going on here.....that would be fantastic! Cheers, Tom
  8. This is the best parts add on SAU ;-) Yous till trying to sell that cat eh?
  9. Yep I'm still up for it
  10. We should do grass skiing at ur place and then take photos that would be so awesome lol
  11. I'm always up for some happy snaps
  12. Hi, what are the mechanics like of these turbos? They're ball bearing so what is the side to side and forward to aft play like? Also, when free spinning turbo by hand how well does it spin and for how long does it spin for after letting go? I ask because a couple weeks I bought a set of these and they were completely seized up but luckily got a refund. Thanks
  13. Ah cool, should be a fun couple day's worth of work!
  14. Goodluck with it man U got people lined up to give you a hand?
  15. I got a couple places you can try if you haven't already: Skyline Spares on facebook Just Jap Imports Toyshop Rolland Imports I'd probably recommend Toyshop out of all of those - I've dealt with him (Troy) a couple times and never had any dramas - easy going guy
  16. Wow omg...I was thinking drinks as well! Us skyline owners must think on the same frequency lol....I'm good for Sat night peoples
  17. Hi all, just letting you know that the manifold is getting fixed this week. The entire dinted runner is getting removed with a new one being put in place. Please let me know if you're interested, cheers!
  18. Haha I'm sorry I sorry Last time I was on here this thread was only a couple posts long! Well I'm pretty easy - we don't have anything happening it either of those two months? Suppose we try May and see how available everyone is?
  19. Yeh thanks for letting us hop on for a lap of the course! Turns out that my rear coil over is now totally and utterly shagged so will have to get new ones E-SAP. She feels quite wobbly now in left hand corners
  20. Ahh so on here is where it's at hey? I'm down with whatever you guys are doing and where ever you're going Yeh there're some gravel roads at the Bunyas that we'll have to make sure we don't get sidewayz on...but never know, that was years ago and they may be surfaced by now. And yes, as for the Kingston karting - we could fill a whole group if we have peeps from T-bar and Brizzy coming along!
  21. Ah go the turbo chart - that link must be the most forwarded link in all of SAU ;-)
  22. That would be correct. Also, only the R34's have those banjo bolts with the M engraved on them as they are restricted for the BB units that only R34's run. I was going to maybe use one of these if needed - but hopefully the GT2860s will already have the right restrictor in them etc etc..
  23. R32 TT, thanks for your info there mate! Appreciate the photos too and apologies for late reply!
  24. GTRNUR, the R32 and R33 GTR turbos are 270 and 360deg plain/journal bearing setups depending on car model as per chart in link below and require higher oil pressure. I have stockies and N1's at home and they're definitely not BB ;-) http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tbroom/Turbos.htm Well, at this stage I'll be going with a set of brand new GT2860 -5 or -7 turbos that should have inbuilt restrictors just like other BB turbos from Garrett etc. However, I'll be sure to confirm with the turbo mob that they're fitted with the right dia. restrictor.
  25. Ray, here's a hi-res pic of the dint in the underside of one of the runners. The manifold is made from thick-walled mild steel steam pipe and I dare say the area there will be OK. I was running it like this for a couple months.
