  1. Well the GT35 shifts a lot more air than the two stockies at the same pressure so there should be some more mumbo there once it's tuned properly. Right now it's 300hp at the rear so you think around 400hp would be more like it? Maybe this 300hp is around the limit of the stock CAMs, ECU and fuel support combination? When you start replacing certain items the power should climb under the same boost. Dcieve, did you have an aftermarket computer at that time or did you do exactly the same thing as me? ie. slap turbo on, check that mixtures are safe, and then drive off? Also, should I be expecting 400rwhp in it's current state where everything is stock? Will the cams and ECU deliver this with 1 Bar? Or are you saying that once I put the cams in that then it will deliver the 400 at 1 bar? I think that's what you mean Thanks for the replies by the way - this is pretty much the criticism I'm after to see if my money is getting well spent.
  2. Well this was only a tune up to get the car out of the work shop. It was also done on a 2 wheel dyno and not even to full rpm range - just a quick squirt if you know what I mean. It will be getting a PFC and bigger pump this week which should see much better figures at the same level of boost. Then after that there should be better figures again with the cams but still running same boost. Dunno about 300rwkw on a stock engine without any supporting mods lol! You realise how much that is? This is simply the results of what happen when you slap a GT3582r onto a factory bog stock (except exhaust) RB26 that has 70,000km on it. Maybe would have had better results with a set of N1's - they would work better with the factory tune and cams. Also, it was insanely hot in the shed they done the dyno in - the car went a lot better during the night than it did during lunch when I picked it up. But yeh mate, just sharing results. Very early results, for those who may be reading who too are considering a GT3582. Oh, and I should also mention that I'm glad I didn't go for the T04z! Some say it's up to 800rpm laggier than a GT3582 - I don't know how you're meant to drive that!
  3. PS - I will post up a dyno print out and photo soon.
  4. Hi all! Thought I'd post my results in here to keep the intent of the thread going ;-) The GT3582 is bolted up! This is pretty much stage 1 out of about 3 so I'm happy that the car actually drives the way it does. The only things that have been changed from stock so far are: - exhaust mani (offcourse) - oil and water lines (braided) - 2 into 1 air intake - rising rate regulator So yeah, no cams, no ecu and no fuel pressure mods (which are the next steps) With out changing any of the timing or resetting the ECU etc, the car happily made 304hp at the rear on 15 pounds. Everything looked safe on the dyno computer but I do want to get a bigger pump and also a ECU asap! So that's all good news, but there is some bad too. The car only runs well when you up it...it boosts very hard and pushes you back quite nicely when the turbine kicks in just after the 4300rpm mark however, the car runs a bit rough on idle and also when coasting around in 60km/h traffic. It's ever so slightly noticeable. It also has a fairly rough idle....not bad, but just a bit rougher than a normal GTR's idle. So that's a GT3582 without any supporting mods. Stage 1 out of 3. It boosts hard, goes like a rocket but on the downside it's a bit rough when driven gently as a daily. The best way to describe it is, imagine the A/C kicking in and out continuously...lol! Obviously there are many more dyno tunes involved with a PFC or something similar....but these are my "better than I thought" results for now. I never expected it to drive at all to be honest.
  5. I think I can make sense of that. The T04z must come on with quite a thump indeed as my mates GT35 r33 gtst came on with quite a lurch as well.....nothing......nothing....nothing....and then, at the last second....BAM! and we have 17 inches I mean...pounds! I guess I'll just have to see how Michael's GT35 R32 goes at QR. I think it also depends on how many pounds you boost. I think, if you ran 20+ pounds on a GT35 and make 400+ horses.....well, I think that would hit you quite hard too or what? But yes, I'm thinking that 10-14 pounds on a GT35 would be quite progressive depending on how you're driving.
  6. Would it be the smallish rear end A/R of the 35 that makes it feel smooth? It'd start spooling pretty early compared to a 35 with a .82 end....giving it a much smoother feel.
  7. Sounds good Michael....I'll see if I can get down there. They usually have the passenger round for the last thing of the day don't they?
  8. For about 5 seconds What about your internals? ....ECU, pump, injectors and all that jazz too? Or have you done all that? I think the RB26's block is rated at like 600hp or something but I'm not sure about the moving parts inside. I'm thinking that they'd be rated at a lot less or what? ...also, could someone please tell me what the maximum boost would be with a GT35r on a stock RB26? I'm yet to put in cams, injectors and pump and am wondering what the maximum boost would be prior to putting the other required upgrades in. I'm thinking that with factory cams and fuel support system you wouldn't go over say 10 pounds with the larger flowing turbo???
  9. LOL @ "only chasing 300rwkw" ....sh]t man that would have to be in excess of 500hp at the crank!
  10. Hey all, who are running the bigger turbos - I have another question: When you start out with the GT35r - what is a sensible boost level to run seeing that I don't have the bigger injectors or cams yet. Whats the sort of max boost level/air flow that you can run on the factory stock engine?
  11. Interesting.....so I take it that's a couple of votes for the GT3582r then? Some very legit comments on the previous page about the T04z in drag racing.
  12. Yeh a pole wouldn't be bad but you'd probably want to start a new thread for that. Yeh Lithium, I wasn't even concidering anything smaller than the 0.82A/R for the GT3582R. Queensland Raceway has a very nice straight and it would be a pitty if the car was a bit choked.
  13. Hmmm the general consensus seams to be pro-T04z For those of you who may not know - I'm deciding between a: GT3076r (probably the best size but limited for the amount of money spent) GT3582r (the next best size, but descibed as "boring" by more than one person. Loses too many RPM at gearshifts etc....etc) ....and the mighty T04z (possibly too big for my hp goal but described as fun and exciting lol) For a maximum horsepower goal of around 450-500 at the treads. That maximum figure will be reached later on down the track as I don't have the biggest budget so for the time being it will probably be no more than 400 or so. For my power goal the GT35r seams to be ideal however everyone (including my tuner) describes it as "boring". Decisions decisions HELP!!!
  14. Thanks Drifter, I guess I could risk it Oink oink oink
  15. I agree too, I think that this graph has been put together in a fashion that biases it towards the T04z....I too am of the opinion that a perfectly setup GT35 motor would look equally impressive to that of the T04z. It's also unfair to plot the T04z on the same graph as the GT35 as the T04z is rated for a much higher HP figure - I mean *&^%, offcourse it's going to climb away from the GT35 at some stage as it's rated so much higher! I don't think that graph is that good of an example - it's very simplified and should only be used to show how the two different turbo sizes spool up under 6000rpm. Would I also be correct to assume that with a large T04z you'd be changing back more than 1 gear when she bogs down at corners to get it back up past 4000rpm whereas with the GT35 you may not have to as it will pick up earlier? You'd have to keep the T04z in *thump* range lol. The GT35 would have a much broader powerband than the T04z and hence you wouldn't have to anally try to keep it over a certain rev range.
  16. With my stock motor I'm inclined to shift up between 7000-7500rpm anyway which, according to the graph is where the GT35 may drop off. I basically don't drive the car in the red. Michael, does your car feel like this? Does it drop off like that? Cerbera, I guess one could argue that it may be harder to get from A to B with a thump of T04z boost like that? From descriptions on here it sounds like the T04z could be a bit painful in the wet? Could someone with an external gate plz give me a quick yes/no for my previous post:
  17. Can I just throw in a quick question related to the GT35 and T04's? I've been trying to get onto people with regards to the legality of external wastegates. Is it just the screamer pipe that's illegal (which I'm pretty sure it is lol) and, so long as your external gate is plumbed in is it legal? Are you safe as long as you plumb in it like with BOV's?
  18. Rezlo, I'm tossing up between a GT30 and GT35 for my stock RB26....maybe you ran a too large a rear-housing A/R which made it feel like crap? Did you run a 1.06 housing by any chance? IMO I'll probably start off with something no more than .82 if I went for a GT35. Were you running the 35 in your RB25det? If so then I understand why you found it boring because on my mates car it comes on insanely late! I don't think he used it for anything other than drag because that car would have gone so bad around a circuit. But then, it did crank out 418hp........but what good is that when it comes on with only 1500rpm to go till redline
  19. Drifter, well that's what I've been debating for the last couple months. I started off with doing this sort of research for a set of twins ranging from smaller units to the larger N1 style turbos that you mentioned. Right now my tuner is investigating the internally gated GT35 units but originally he too recommended a 0.7 front / 0.7 rear T04z. There are so many mixed opinions (but good ones) on here! Yes, the GT30 has similar performance to a set of large twins plus a bit extra which sounds good. The GT35 went pretty darn well on my mates R33 GTST although a bit laggy for my liking. I'm hoping that with a better choice of rear A/R and the extra RPM's that the RB26 has to offer, the GT35 should run better on my car. Maybe we should start a enormous pole on here where people vote on if they find the GT35 "boring" and then possibly list their engine spec's as well - you may be able to find some sort of correlation from that
  20. Michael, Thanks for sourcing the internally gated GT35 at the top of the page - I've sent that to my tuner to check availability and cost. Tom
  21. LOL I'll be taking my gay low mounts out soon haha! Yeh it should be interesting. I'm not aiming for too much power as I want to go to the track regularily with a reliable HP figure....something that can be driven all day every day without over-straining the 13 y/o car. TiTAN, yes, correct - it is only around 60cc which is jack all really. I look forward to sharing the results with you. I'm looking at a good all rounder...something that reflects the GTR's original design intent. You see, I race at QR as well and I had the pleasure of taking a stock GTR out onto the track from which I then gathered that I need more: - Power on the straight as that is where some of the quick cars caught me again - Even better braking power at the end of the straight so that you don't end up circumnavigating the globe - Some better suspension to get rid of some of that roll and bring the car a bit closer to earth - ......and better oil cooling - the factory system is pathetic. So yeh, those are some things just from the top of my head. I want to hit all them things rather than just all out power ;-)
  22. Drifter and Michael, You wouldn't be referring to the GT3540r's that they use on the latest turbo'd falcons? Yes your right Michael I don't want to go for insane horses - I'd rather spend some money on cooling and tyres and suspension once I'm done with the turbo/fuel system upgrade. I'm not planning to pour thousand into the motor to make it go faster and faster - won't help me much at QR if I don't look into some suspension and brake upgrades! I'd probably fly off the first corner after hitting insane speeds with my 800hp! I'm thinking that because the GTST boys have such good results with the GT30's that a 100cc more for a 2.6L won't render the turbo unusable. You'd just have to make sure that you pick a larger rear housing so that you still have good flow and low back pressure when you're screaming along in 5th ;-) (or 6th for you Michael lol) Tom
  23. Drifter, Ah I see. Could you perhaps send me a link to where I could get an internally gated GT35 from? If I could get one then I would seeing that with the 3071 I'd be limiting myself to around 400-450hp or there abouts. From memory it was up to a GT3240 that you could get internal gate rear housings BUT please, do send me a link to a reliable place to get the internally gated 35 from. Just out of curiosity, what are your reasons for not putting a GT3071/79 on a stock RB26? They're very popular with the RB25 people and I'm thinking if you bolted the largest one of these up you'd have insane response, probably even better response than with a set of twins......and......if you went for a large rear A/R from 0.82 upwards you should be quite right with flow in top gear down the straight ;-) ....please advise. Cheers, Tom
