I was just assuming that somebody else had already done this? If I get bored today I might give it a go...

Damn, where do you find stuff like that... -
Cool Now if I could just find some slotted rotors, I might be swayed to keep my stock brakes... pads are cheap now by the sounds. But warped rotors are no fun and new ones from Nissan are not cheap
-
My S2 'box had the exact same symptom of not being able to hold reverse; I had to get a new solenoid rack which included a new 'pressure control valve', and that fixed all those not holding gear/slipping/light coming on/limp mode issues.

I also would like to know, specifically series 2 stagea. If this will fit series 2 stagea, count me in. -
That would probably be possible; I know I for one have a set of old S2 pads with about 30% left on them (which I was keeping as emergency pads, but could let go to something like this). BUT, and this is a big BUT, the one big issue which would prevent me investing any more money in the stock brakes (more than the ~$200 I had to spend on new genuine pads) is that my rotors need replacing, bad, and I just can't get any slotted rotors to suit standard series 2. Or ANY rotors to suit S2 for that matter, except genuine Nissan, which is a waste for me as for less money I can get some R34 brakes and get them rebuilt. Add to that the difficulty of getting braided lines (sure Mal-something have them but they are apparrently short and need adjusting to make them fit S2).

Smic Wanted Bigger Than Gtt

Interesting comments re. the liquid coolers... Jason I've looked at the PWR ones (look awesome) but they're pretty expensive. Plus I read that barrel-style ones don't have as good a flow as the radiator-style ones (or was it cooling capacity at a given size? bah can't remember). I was making enquiries about shipping costs, probably gonna be astronomical due to the Aussie dollar atm. edit: oh about mounting them in the engine bay Robert... yeah you could save like a metre of piping! Should make the induction system the most responsive it can possibly be, HAS to be more responsive than a massive front-mount with about 2 metres total pipe length! Could mount the heat exchanger right on the inlet manifold and paint it black... barrels especially good for this... wouldn't even be overly noticeable. I think I'd mount mine in the SMIC position, as it looks like it would be so similar to the original SMIC that it might just fit up to the factory pipes, and stock there isn't toooo much piping so pretty responsive, and completely unseen from the engine bay (look stock). -

Hey Robert, have you seen/considered one of these? This is what I want to do to replace my stock '34 SMIC. Dimensionally, it even looks like the stock SMIC. Proportionally... well I need someone to measure up a stock SMIC but since a few different sizes are available I think it would fit too with a custom mount perhaps... http://www.frozenboost.com/product_info.ph...46d20685e6f2a9f liquid-air... advantages include very low boost drop/pressure loss, no heat soak in boost/stop driving, runs cooler etc. -

No worries Jarryd -
great stuff, thanks. sorry to hear about the demise... sounds messy that's awesome, thanks chook! I will check them out...

Sorry Robert I did read your post about the Maltech lines, they look good and I would give them a call but I think that if I swap calipers, I will probably need different lines. Chook I think said he used R32 GTR lines, with R34 GTT brakes, on a series 2 stagea... can anyone confirm that they fit? Also if R32 GTR lines fit would R34 lines just fit?

Whoa, don't know how I missed this reply for so long... sorry Dave. I have PM'd you about account details - pretty sure I've got them right (also included my address). Just let me know price of postage & I'll make the transfer. thanks David -
Damn! I would've recommended a Nistune price-wise, but I guess there may have been something else in there which was busted that didn't get replaced. Having an intermittent problem REALLY SUCKS, as I'm sure you can appreciate by now... must be bloody fantastic to have finally found the issue though (and I hope you have!). So the Vi-pec really can handle the auto's then? Let us know how it goes! Oh, and do you have a series 2 (NEO) setup, with the tiptronic auto?
-
Hi there Mike! Second what BensDR30 said... and I think translated pinouts of the ECUs from the service manuals would be awesome, I've never seen them around... although, for series 2, I think they are the same as R34. But perhaps we shall soon see...
-
Oops, I thought that sounded a little weird! Thanks Josh
-
Thanks Simon, that's great. Perhaps this sort of info could go near the start of the thread, ie. something like: S2 RS-Four V upgrade to R34 brakes all-round, standard R34 GTT pads, calipers and rotors front & rear bolt straight on using the original R34 caliper bolts, backing plates may require slight trimming on the rears, use R32 GTR lines front & rear, need R34 handbrake line from caliper to hose. (R33 may also fit?). Does that sound about right?
-
Excellent, they do fit! Would you be able to find out what brake lines you used? I'd want to fit stainless lines at the same time if doing the conversion, and being able to buy lines for a '33 or '34 off-the-shelf (or, through an SAU group buy for ADR-approved ones ) would be a lot cheaper/easier than getting custom ones made... Exactly why I was thinking about the '34 conversion over the '33 one. Bigger rotors can only be a good thing on such a wagon

If the guage is not more than 60mm deep, I will take it & pay postage to SA. -
So did I... if you mean this sort of thing: Is that the new way of listing that you're talking about? I found that my post style had been switched to that way one day, and I hated it. But I discovered that you can switch back to the 'normal' style by using the "Options" button at the top-right-corner of the page, here: Just select "Switch to: Standard" instead of "Outline" ("Outline" is the weird one in that first picture). a little OT but HTH...

Cheers for the sms Adam. Not sure if I'll make it yet, and my stag's pretty plain... but I'll try

Well, those were exactly my symptoms, and pretty close to the same symptoms as a heap of R34 boxes once they pass about 100-120,000K's... mine was shift solenoids; the new rack costs just under $500 plus fitting of course, and replaces all solenoids I think (at least A and B, pretty sure that's all forward gears) and some pressure regulator, which was playing up on mine. The symptoms with these solenoids are that when they heat up they start to fail (and as soon as they do, they trip a fault code, and auto goes into limp-mode and you're stuck in 3rd... ALL THE TIME... it sucks ). Best of luck... but I'm not thinking that replacing a gasket will fix your issues (unless you can't keep enough trans fluid for 400 metres). If it does fix it, I wish I had your luck!!
