Wow! the GT-Cs are by far the best aftermarket wheels for the R35. They look much more aggressive that the new TE37 G2's. As you can see below, I am a wheel whore, therefore I am always critiquing different wheel combos on the GTRs. What are the specs (size and offset) of the wheels?

Rb26 Carbon Plug & Cam Gear Covers (new)
tangomatt replied to GTR STI's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Hi, Can you please tell me where you originally purchased these from as I am interested in buying a set. Thanks -
V Cam is the way to go! It will bring the RBs closer to the 21st Century!

Hey Mark, I am putting Nismo Supercopper Twin plate clutch with standard gearbox. So, is your car being built here or in Japan? As for turbos, I just ordered them from The States (Frsport) and they guaranteed that they do have them in stock ready to be shipped. I decided to pay a two hundred dollars more rather than wait for back order from Garrett Australia, as last heard the back order took over 2-3 months to fill. Cheers Matt

I will certainly get some progress pics up as soon as I visit Racepace workshop. Early July is a distant hope, realistically i am looking at end of July or early August even though I started sourcing all the main components early March this year. My importer managed to snap up one of only two remaining HKS Step 2 2.8 stroker kits in stock in the whole of Japan at that time. Backorder for these kits is indefinite as HKS will only build a batch at a time. I did not anticipate the turbos to be on backorder for so long. Apparently the -5s have been selling like hot cakes for some reason lately. As for ordering from The States, they are available but at a price hike of $500 above Aussie pricing due to exchange, freight etc. and that is excluding possible taxes. I have learnt to be patient with project cars, progress is always slower than expected. After the engine, I would like to focus on wheels, interior and finally subtle changes to the exterior.

Brand New Hks 2530's
tangomatt replied to MercuryMotorsport's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
I don't mean to rob this thread, but do the HKS 2530s offer any perceptible advantage over the Garrett 2860-5 in real world driving conditions? Do the 2530s spool up quicker; offer better top end power; more durable etc. than the -5s to warrant the extra premium in cost? I heard that the HKS are harder and more expensive to obtain parts in case repair or rebuilding is required. I am definitely tempted! -
Brand New Hks 2530's
tangomatt replied to MercuryMotorsport's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Hey Huy, HKS 2530s hmm.... very tempting..... -
Thanks Femno and Miran for heads up about the turbos. Contacted Access Autoworks, but no stock. As for the HKS 2530s, tempting as they are, they are over my budget. I am chasing some from The States - ATP turbos. They have on shelf ready to be shipped. turbo rxp: Why V Cam, dash 5 and RB28? That is the question I ask myself sometimes. I sometimes wondered why I didn't just put the money aside and just get a R35 GTR instead. I guess I am a RB enthusiast and just want to get the most street drivability out of this engine platform as possible. I want to emphasize on the low end torque and response, rather than high end power.

Time frame is entirely dependent on Ben! I dare not to rush him. But I am hoping probably early July completion date. I ill sure keep everyone posted.

Brand New Hks 2530's
tangomatt replied to MercuryMotorsport's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Have you got pics? as I am hunting around for some turbos. I am after some Garrett -5, but they are on backorder and I need something similar rather quickly. Are they genuine, 100% brand spanking new? I am just after the turbos and what is price (pm me if you like) -
Hey Nick is that your car with the CE28Ns and AP racing brakes? What are you having done at Racepace?

Photos of HKS RB2.8 Step 2 conrods and crankshaft: Full counter weight balanced for high rpm Forged; H-beam; held together by ARP bolts I heard that these parts are actually fabricated by Cosworth UK to HKS specs and then rebadged and packaged in Japan for a premium price. Regardless the HKS badge is cool!

Elrodeo666: ECU will be Apexi Power FC. I had the same concern regarding integrating the V Cam with another ECU unit. I contemplated buying the HKS F Con Pro V, but they are only available through the authorised HKS dealer in NSW and that the tuning must be done at their facilities. The price I got quoted for supply and tune was exorbitant to say the least. However, that is a last resort option if things don't work out as planned. What is in my favour is the expertise, knowledge, experience and technical know-how of Ben from Racepace. Don't forget guys that he managed to build his Racepace RB2.9 demo car with variable cam from a RB25 head through his own in house R&D. As far as I know that engine has not missed a beat even after numerous targa events by the previous owner. Ben assures me he is confiednt to get the Power FC to work with the V Cam as essentially the V Cam will act like a 'piggy back' computer. I did point out that particular case in WA where the guy is having problems with his set-up. I hope all will proceed according to plans. As for the build, it is progressing very S---L---O---W---L---Y. N1 block is back at Racepace honed and bored to specs. Expected finish date will have to be delayed until I can get hold of some Garrett -5s. I am sourcing from The States now. More pictures for those following this thread:

I must admit Ben is like an eccentric craftsman (no offfence to him). He has good enough reputation for him to be selective with his clientele. And no he did not shake his head when I approached him with the job. Its for other reasons which will come into light in the near future. As for turbos, I can't get hold of any Garrett-5 as they are on back order world wide. I am considering a set of HKS 2530s or Tomei ARMS B7660 now. But just for the HKS or Tomei brand will cost twice as much as the Garretts off the shelf. Seeing Benno tomorrow
-
No dry sump is planned. Just a larger capacity oil sump with High performance/high flow Tomei Oil Pump. In fact the V Cam needs oil line to work properly and HKS does recommend a higher capacity Oil pump.
-
You are spot on paul r33. If I put a RB25 head on a RB26 bottom end and get someone who knows how to put it together, then I will essentially get the same result without the HKS badge!

A set of off the shelf Garrett 2860R -5s will be installed. In Cam as per V Cam Type A setup - Valve timing 90-120 degress, valve lift 8.6mm, duration IN 248 Ex Cam - 256 valve lift 8.7mm It should be interesting how much boost these will develop in the hands of the maestro. The secret is in the rest of the package so I am led to believe. The truth will be told when I take my first test drive once its completed. Car is in the workshop atm.

V- Cam unpacking I have always found the unpacking process fascinating, so I have documented it with these photos to share with everyone. Thank goodness Benno has worked out how to install it. The instructions are entirely written in Japanese!
-
Yes, it is very astute of you to notice that I asked for recommendation for a workshop for the build besides Racepace and then to announce a week or so later that Racepace has taken on the job. I have a very good explanation for this strange behavior. However, I am not at liberty to disclose this until the time is appropriate. I will post pictures of V Cam unwrapping over weekend perhaps.
