be interesting to hear the result to this problem. its got me stumped. Definately try a compression test
-
I know! Before i purchased it, I asked a few people that are using these plenums what they think about them and noone has had any complaints... when mine arrived i realised its nothing but a peice of junk.... i think i might make it into a candle holder or something
-
what the? that doesnt sound right... from what ive read a few times, the parts you say it has should make it a 95 or earlier.... if they are trying to sell it off as a series 2 and it has the series 1/1.5 features then they are ripping you off... your better off buying a series 1 if you dont mind the front lights and interior of the older models. you will save a few thousand this way and still have a 33 that your happy with.
-
yes i have accessed that and read over it. They cover pretty much everything except they dont state 'DET' after RB25. although i quoted them on that before purchace and they assured me its for RB25det. The people i have spoken to with these installed all have good results... i was the unlucky one and recieved a dud I will take your advise and question them about a credit. hopefuly something to help cover the costs of the welding.
-
Also at G1 last sunday i was speaking to a couple of drifters that had them installed and they were very happy with the results. I guess i got a dud. Also yea i am an idiot for not dumby fitting it first. I really stuffed up there and ignored my own advise (always dumby fit). oh well atleast now there is a warning to the many people on the forums, that i have read are curious about these plenums. I personally wouldnt every buy another one unless i could inspect it with my own eyes.
-
also when they state " to fit RB25det" when IT DOESNT FIT means, if its a copy or not, they claim it fits
-
mate i know its a copy but having previous experience with a JUN copy front feed on my old RB20det i was extremely happy with it. the feeds were identicle to the stock feeds and the over all finish of the product was smooth and precise. Keeping in mind that this was ALSO a copy for around the same price. Going by my previous great experience with a copy, and weighing up my options on price of coarse i selected another copy. this time being a greddy copy for an rb25det. Dont try and treat me like a idiot.

Just thinking about it i shouldnt have to pay for extra welding or modifying when i have just been sold shit! So i have contacted the seller on ebay. "Dear seller, The plenum i recieved is not in working order as one of the water galary feeds is cut very poorly only leaving it with a 2mm gap from the air intake feed... This doesnt allow me to fit a gasket and isnt really repairable with out some expense from a welder. I would like to organise an exchange for another one that is in working order. Thank you, Regards, Michael" Im not good with being all legal or what ever but i hope he can arange something and sort this out.
-
yea that would also work... cutting it further back on all 6 runners and welding the standard runners on would make for some very clean holes though as all the feed holes on the copy plenum are pretty ruff...
-
yea but the problem now is i was stupid enough to paint the plenum and cant really arrange a refund now when it cost me over $350. Im thinking now maybe i can get it custom welded to join to the standard intake manifold runners??? Anyone here capable of doing this?
-
also the front feed's are supposed to increase response by shortening your cooler piping.

Hks 2540 - $1500... Should I?

im guessing your using it on an RB25det???? I was just using this turbo on a RB20det on my previous set up and my god it was laggy!!!!! but hit huge power top end. I am now going to use this turbo on my RB25det and ive been told i should be seeing full boost by 3500rpm ??? either way an RB25 should be able to spool that turbo easy enough and would make a powerful streeter!!! -
Ok guys, I have a Greddy front feed plenum copy that i purchased from ebay. Anyway ive had some time this week to finally start assembling it and ive been documenting it for a tutorial im making. Anyway, the finish on this product is very average and i decided to check with you guys on one part about it that im very skeptical about... You can see one of the water gallery holes on the greddy plenum is poorly cut and is dangerously close to the cylinder 6 intake feed. Total gap between the 2 feeds is about 2mm. I DO NOT want to be filling my cylinders with water, ive already experienced this once and it hurts! Do you think when applying the silicone i can just give a bit extra to that part? Im a bit worried to attempt this as the risk is pretty big... ADVISE PLEASE GUYS!?!?

zertek replied to zertek's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Yes im actually spending today weighing, measuring and packaging parts, from my half cut ready to post off incase i get an interstate buyer. Hopefully if i can sell a couple of items + next weeks pay will come in on thursday i should be on the + From there ill only be spending money if i absolutely have to for a while. Thinking back now it was so easy to lose control... couple of hundred here and there really adds up big! Hopefully ill get time today to go over my receipts of car items and start a budget diary. Might be slower but atleast i know ill get there in the end. Atleast ive learnt a lesson! P.S cheers for all the support (I'm supprised at how much i recieved!!!). My head was so clogged i couldnt think straight so all the advise was really helpful. -
Minus $426 In My Bank Account And Getting Worse!

My 32 is worth a bit more than 8k I recently sold my R33 series 2 to be able to afford this car. Alot of money and time has been spent on modifying this car. The last offer i had was 14k (and no i wasnt trying to sell), and on top of this, we all know how much money is lost in modifications. Also i mentioned how this car is from QLD, i had to pay transport + stamp duty and also went through all the crap of going there to get my license transfered to a QLD one. Anyway my car has definately been put on hold.... i still spent all today working on it, but only doing things i can with out needing to spend money. Simply spending the day working on it has cleared my head alot and cheered me up. I was thinking maybe i should try and find a track car i can help out with at the track (for free of coarse)... might it be just changing tyres or what ever, anything to be a little more involved would be great. And i wont be blowing any money... atleast till i can get back on my feet and get my own car on the track :PBJ: Anyway cheers for the support guys, I've had time to clear my head and now its only a matter of time before ill be back on top of things! P.S if anyone has or knows of a track car that i could help out with in anyway, let me know, im very keen! -

Minus $426 In My Bank Account And Getting Worse!

cars are my only passion... but at the same time they are wrecking my life! -
Hey guys, Need this off my chest! Im sure a few of you would all know this situation all to well... 24-7 thinking about cars. I mean, at work you cant concertrate, cause your thinking about cars the whole time, cant sleep some nights cause your thinking about mods and different driving techniques, both go to sleep and wake up thinking about cars, spend all your free time and all your money on tinkering with your car? This is my situation and has been since i was 13 years old!!! I am now 19. At first i thought it might be a phase.... but things like when i got my L's, i had a calander and marked off EVERY day before i went to bed until i got my P's, have made me realise im obsessed. I now realise that this is a dangerous addiction... its keeping me broke and owing way too much money! My goal since i bought my first car (I'm now on my 10th car) has been to get to the track. Till this day i havent made it any further than to watch from the side lines at mallala... I own a R32 gts4 decently modified. I bought this car from queensland (I'm from Adelaide) and knowing it wouldnt pass regency i kept it rego'd in QLD and ended up travelling to QLD and transfered my licence to a QLD one just so i can drive my 32 down here 'on holidays'... Not a moment went by where i didnt drive it with a smile... im talking from ear to ear. Anyway, my 6th time driving it, sadly i blew a head gasket and who knows what else... cyl 3 was full of coolant, compression test showed 5 out of 6 cylinders were screwed, and i had heaps of oil all through my intake system. I ended up adding more to my car loan and bought a half cut with a 25det... since then (4 months ago) its been nothing but nightmares trying to get this thing on the road.... Today i got a call from the bank to basically ask what was going on with my account situation. -$426 dollars in my account and all my savings etc are already long gone, im getting over draw charges every week and its only getting worse, on top of that i have a loan over $20,000. They said taking my car might have to be an option All the money i get i dont spend on anything but my car... i have no life anymore. Ive really lost my shit... Will i ever make it to the track!?!? I'm so far away from my goals and yet its not possible to keep this up. The bank will take my car if i cant miraculously make thousands of dollars out of nowhere.... I'm usually a really happy guy and nothing can keep me down... but the fact that i may have to face my car been sold and being left with nothing but debt is really keeping me down...

ok... well i know that the timing belts are the same for the rb20det and the rb25det and the timing marks are the same on the balancers.... im guessing its ok to just do a direct balancer swap (use rb20det harmonic balancer on rb25det). I will be using the R32 power steering pump and air compressor still because i have left them attatched to the engine bay and ready to be bolted to the rb25det when its dropped in... meaning i wouldnt have to change any belts either (Rb20det power steering pump and rb20det balancer). Tomorrow i will measure the balancer sizes and post up results, just for reference if anyone else needs to do the same. Cheers
-
So to do this, you place rubber gaskets in place then squeeze ultra black goop around the top of the rubber gaskets then bolt the covers back on over the top?
-
So the only difference between ultra grey and ultra black is the colour? Im not fussed at all by what colour the goops are... aslong as they do the job right. I noticed that orange goop stuff has been used on my old intake plenum as a sealant as well as one of the paper gaskets...
-
Hey guys, in the middle of a conversion, RB25det upgrade from my RB20det. The RB25det harmonic balancer has 2 decent cracks around the front rim, which im sure will tear what ever belt i put on in half. So looking at my RB20det balancer (with no cracks)... they are slightly different but the over all 7 timing marks are visually the same.... just checking if these are ok to swap? RB20det balancer RB25det balancer timing marks (visually identicle on both) thanks!
-
Also i just searched for tech articles for applying gasket goop and found nothing. Someone experienced should make a tech article on how to prep and apply this stuff properly with photo's. I will take photo's and document the process i go through when doing mine but this will be my first time using the stuff so it probably wont be the best tech article.
-
GREAT THREAD! I am doing a RB25det conversion on my r32 gts4. Just got back from the nissan dealer half an hour ago and purchased a few gaskets that i could remember i needed off the top of my head. I have to go back there to get the rest that i need later. I didnt buy the gasket goo they have thier as it was very expensive and the dealer actually told me i can get similar stuff else where for much cheaper.
