  1. Spotted a blue coupe yesterday turning from dudley into king st in the city.
  2. The Bosch BNS60LS is one of my dead batteries... 400CCA Currently using Century NS60L... 350CCA
  3. Mine's auto has a foot brake instead of handbrake, often I forgot to apply it and just put the car in P :-) Even applied the car can easily drive forward as the foot brake doesn't seem to be so strong. Being a drum brake might explain why or just need a new drum... Good to keep a bit of weight at the back too, good for traction on RWD, and stabilises it as scathing said. May I add there's also a reason why ppl need to keep a reasonable amount of fuel as well, as some track with high speed sweeping corners might push the fuel to one side of the tank and it's a bad time to starve the engine if the fuel pump didn't pickup the fuel. Running lean = detonation. On a few track days with 3-4 rounds with 4-5 laps each I used only about 1/4 tank in the old R33, so about half tank should be enough if you wanna lighten the car a bit - but I dunno V35 consumption on the track. Has anyone see the oil sump design on V35, is there any common issue with oil starvation like in the stock RB series GTR oil sump? Although at beginner's level most cars probably not powerful enough to generate enough G-force to starve the engine out of oil during cornering.
  4. Just don't try too hard to be a Schumaker on your first day on track and you'll be fine... I believe the format with Driver Dynamics is not a competition race so definitely no taking over during corners and therefore don't take too pressure when you're setting up for a corner turn in with another car approaching from behind... they'll have to let you turn in properly no matter how slow you turn - otherwise they'll get banned off the track. That rule works the same way with all WRX Club track days with Level 2 CAMS. Were you on the skidpan that I organized a few years ago?
  5. Well a few times on the track in my old R33, I only had ABS & HICAS as the only 'VDC' for cars of those period... Never really had anything more sophisticated than those. ie that can apply brake automatically etc... My V35 is a 2003 model, so that would be excluded or you reckon it will just apply to all VQ35 generation? I couldn't find any data whether the japanese 100 octane fuel contains ethanol or not... because if they do contain ethanol in Japan that could mean most JDM cars have long been ethanol-compatible...
  6. Nismo, u tried with VCD on and off? lots of difference or not? Also the V-Power have 5% ethanol, I remember somewhere on a website there's a compatibility list - is the V35 compatible to take E5 fuel for long periods?
  7. Max, double check the battery is tight and secure.... don't kid with it - you've got like a massive weight of that battery swinging around if it came loose - not a good sight. the plastic cover won't stop your battery from denting up your bonnet if it gets loose when your car go over the ripple strip into the grass area... Just double check everything mate... If you get the hang of it for future track days, I can get you some nice RDA slotted rotors at a fraction of retail price, and you can even try some yellow pads (track only)... you know where to find me here.
  8. I got a call from Michael @ Longden recommending me to find who to comply according to VICroads requirement here in VIC, and Geoff followed up by phone to make sure things are going as it is. Thank's for your help, and great after sales service from Geoff (Prestige) & Michael (Isaso) ! But Chris, don't book a ticket yet, till I confirmed my 3rd attempt is a 3rd time lucky! At this point I'm planning next Tue 22nd as my 3rd attempt... Week 13... to be updated... I should probably get a custom plate like LUCK13 or something...
  9. A bit of light at the end of the tunnel... Apparently it is a requirement specific to Victoria state to have the full VIN stamped on the vehicle's body. Thank's to Geoff @ Prestige & Isaso compliance in QLD, they have put me in contact with an authorised dealer/RAWS in VIC that will be able to do what VicRoads require and will do so next week and give my 3rd short @ VicRoads again.
  10. who do i speak to, Chris?
  11. What am I suppose to do now? That VIN stamped on the suspension tower IS the one people had on their cars isn't it? Should I take it to different branch? I went to Sunshine as it's the one nearest to home. Please , anyone in Melbourne who has done 1st time import registration by themselves, which branch do you go to? Carlton? Greensborough? Or should I send it back to QLD to the RAWS, have it rego'ed there, then I do an interstate name transfer back to VIC, as if I am purchasing a car interstate?
  12. Chris, they've seen the sticker (magenta sticker RAWS compliance) - checked the VIN - ok. happy. 2nd they check the VIN in the engine bay (photo attached) - they said the number is correct however the plate used by RAWS is an outdated 2 years ago, and no one uses that kind of plate anymore and they requested the exact same number stamped underneath that plate directly on the body!
  13. Quote sent.. Time to close the Group Buy 33 orders: 1. Mr Moo (payment cleared) 2. MotoMan (payment cleared) 3. daemon667 (payment cleared) 4. bombtrack (payment cleared) ** Secured the last pair of the first 4 pairs available for front R34 GTT rotors ** 5. Madaz (payment cleared) 6. Jet-25L (payment cleared) 7. Kah Chong - RX8 (payment cleared) 8. WRRR (payment cleared)
  14. Week 12 - Refused registration... arrrghh.. what a bad day The VIN stamped on a plate by RAWS was not accepted as good enough by VicRoads, they said it's an old VIN plate that hasn't been used around for 2 years. I need to find a person who can legally stamp a VIN directly under the stamped plate on the body/chassis. Therefore they want to see 2 of the same VIN numbers: one on the plate by RAWS the other one on the chassis. The number on the firewall (factory) is not accepted because it doesn't contain the full 17-digit VIN, only contains the CPV35-xxxxxx part.... What a freakin' nightmare... Anyone can help me with a tradesperson who can engrave VIN number on my engine bay? Chris - do not book a ticket yet...
  15. Waz, imported the car myself. Nismo, I know it's not j-spec or prestige's problem, i got all paperwork it's just they keep asking for ridiculous things and just wasting more of my time, plus I don't have time to organise some of the things in person. So it's more issues with me and my time issues - too much work! Chris, I will let you know tonight, as i will be going to vicroads again this afternoon at 4pm. I belieev I should have the things required, but I'll probably make a stat dec @ local police to state that all my documents are done electronically!
  16. don't think so - wiring done by chris rogers. all origianl dealer wiring with immoblser etc that is in a scotch locks has been removed totally on compliance 1st battery killed by interior domelight 2nd battery killed by courtesy light under door it's nothing but my very bad luck with this car.
  17. Don't be too sure AndyD. All will be sweet until the moment you arrive @ Vicroads. happened to a mate of mine too. They'll just dick you around with stupid thing and just wasted your time. Re batteries: 1st battery - Century NS60LS with two terminal sizes, traded in the dead jap battery and get like $20-30 off with the month's promo. Killed by interior dome light 2nd battery - Bosch BNS60LS - same as century, just branded differently. bought outright $120+ from supercheap, didn't keep my century receipt as i wouldn't have thought a new battery will be dead by such a stupid thing after running fine for a week. my garage was brightly lit by neon light that an interior dome light won't be visible on/off if you don't actually look at it. Killed by courtesy light under passenger door. 3rd Battery, back to Century, NS60L $130+ - similar to 1st but only 350CCA instaed of 400CCA like the first 2. But this one has small terminals only instead of dual size. seem to start alright. just finger cross i don't happen to leave a light on or a door open overnight. the car sucks too much power! traded in the 1st century for 10% off the price as there's no promo with century anymore to trade old batteries. and I panicked as it's the last day to find battery before goin to vicroads for rego appointment. cant be bothered trying to find the original bosch receipt. still have the 2nd bosch on my garage floor - flat, unsure what to do with it. just hoping the 3rd one will last, now i'm double checking every single thing in the car before leaving it.
  18. 2. Buy new battery. $130-ish each time once it's flat the battery will be dead. cut its life in half, you flat it again, another half, u got quarter left. basically once it's flat on a V35, there's no point trying to recharge it, just buy a new one and swap out. the car runs a very power demanding network of electronics, even the light switch won't turn the lights off if there isn't enough power! how ridiculous... other conventional car wont' turn on lights when there's no power, on v35, it will turn on lights and refuses to turn off until battery is completely drain out or you pull out the battery terminal in panic. I thnk what i've learnt in this 12 week is: 1. never buy an import unregistered (buy privately locally or from dealer and just deal with existing rego transfer - much easier) 2. i need a new job that promotes work life balance... 3. i really need a new job that doesn't make me go back to work tomorrow after 5pm and keep working till things done. (done that before till 1:30am once)
  19. Actually, anyone know of any professional agent/broker that can do my car rego for me as i simply don't have time. I will be willing to pay for their professional service. Give me a quote ie hourly rate.
  20. if rego doesn't go thru tomorrow due to other 'insufficient' paperwork according to vicroads 'evrything by the book' rules then i won't have time again till september as 2 colleagues havin babies at work means they'll be on leave and i'll be triple shifted again. september means rwc expires after 28 days and i have to re-do the RWC again...
  21. Saga begins... Week 1 after compliance, Car landed... battery flat... due to overworked, only be able to find a new battery after 2 weeks. Week 3, new battery in... no time to drive out yet or organised RWC battery flat again as accidentally left interior dome light on one evening after sitting in the car reading some manuals before leaving the garage. Week 4, wasted on another battery, only had time to warm it up for the next 3 weeks - too busy at work Week 7, finally had a quiet week at work, planning to get it RWC, should be straightforward, found a mechanic next to office, organised RWC appointment next week, plus unreg vehicle permit for 3 days (RWC shouldn't take that long?) Week 8, day of RWC. drop off in the morning, garage called back in the afternoon front rotors and pads were way too unroadworthy. WTF asking around finding parts won't be able to do it in 3 days AFTER the unreg vehicle permit expires. There goes my $46 permit Week 8 + 3 days, finally picked up rotors & pads. Alas, bad luck found out pad is wrong, picked up rear instead of front. too busy at work again, no time to go back to pad shop to exchange. cancelled RWC appointment at no specific time. Week 8 + 5 days, finally got chance to sneak out during lunch break and exchange the rear pads for the correct front pads. called mechanic, organised a 2nd attempt at RWC. Called Vicroads organised for another 7 days unreg vehicle permit... $40 plus appointment for 1st time rego $30 plus. Week 9, drop off 2nd time at mechanic for RWC. All went in sweet. feeling optimistic... ? WRONG not so quite... Week 9+5 days, 2 days before Vicroads appointment... accidentally left passenger door not closed fully and the courtesy light stays on whole night. That killed the battery AGAIN! 2 days before rego appointment what a f@ckin... bad luck I had... Week 9 + 6 days, ran quickly to local autobarn, getting a new battery... 3 batteries in 9 weeks x $130 each = almost $400 and car is not on the road yet. Week 10 - REGO day. drop in at vicroads, they refuse my car for rego as all invoices/paperwork from japan is done electronically and there is no single supplier's (japanese seller's) actual signature, apart from Consumer Information Notice which is original. Late in for work, stayed back late for work, no aparent choice making another unreg vehicle permit for $40 so I could just get it home... Week 10 + 1 day, contacted supplier, faxed over an invoice with signature... no originals only faxed documents still - will have to sign stat dec in front of police officer stating that I really purchased that car with no genuine invoice only electronic copies/faxes available... let's see how tomorrow afternoon 4pm, will have to leave work at 3pm just to get to Vicroads. Rego or not rego after the 11th week, tomorrow will have to rush back to work at around 5pm and work till perhaps 9pm just to get my projects out. After 11 week, $500 wasted and car is not on the road yet, I should have just sell the damn thing.
  22. Time to be closing the Group Buy 33 orders: 1. Mr Moo (payment cleared) 2. 23. Done a bit search and yes looks like it's all timing chain for VQ engines... looks like Nissan finally realised the painstaking effort required to replace timing belt in their previous V6 platform, the 300ZX's VG30 series... it's a nightmare job That's good as that means we'll save that $600-800 cost to replace timing belt @ 100,000km, however that also mean any car done 200,000km in Japan can be wound back to a sweet 70,000km without anyone knowing as there's no timing belt change stamped on the engine cover anymore! But 200,000 miles said - that's a lot of km, 360,000km approximately, the transmission probably have been needing a rebuild or two before the timing chain is due!
  24. Well, still is there any chance that the chains will develop stress fatique and failed? I would think even chains would need some maintenance, just perhaps a lot longer than 100,000km ? The other engine I was told had chains on them is the SR20, so anyone with 200SX is there any timing belt/chain replacement in their service schedule?
