Fresh from Japan pics
rs73 replied to Beer Baron's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
now that's a nice one... good on you.. now just pray that it doesn't pick up more scratches/dents during shipping and transport... it can be a rough journey, you know... -
1st pic E = kinda wavy paint mark (uneven) might indicate slight accident repair on the passenger door A1 = very tiny scratch on the rear left guard A2 = scratch on the rear bumper, bigger scratch than A1 5 on the tyres indicate the wear condition of the tyre. I can't remember if it's a 5 scale or 10 scale. 2nd pic: no mark on the car, but 0 on the tyre means the tyres are completely bald Tyre condition makes no difference to your decision importing the car because by law, all cars coming from japan must have their tyres replaced no matter what. therefore the tyre condition usually makes no difference in the final bidding price. 3rd pic A1 = same, tiny scratches as described in 1st pic above, got more tiny scratches. B = dent

what he means is the car has a lot of power, it's very easy for impatient drivers (or anyone who cannot control the urge to go fast) getting themselves into trouble for speeding, and lost their driving license.

1. advantage of importing vs buying already registered in australia? Importing may save you more money but you run the risk of having damage done to the car during transport as well as buying cars unseen and only relying on verbal description of some supplier in Japan, regardless how good their reputation is, a verbal description can sometimes be subjective. 2. when it comes to servicing/repair, is it cheap? does parts have to imported as well? maybe 350Z parts are usable? Regular oil change should be just as any other car. You can get battery locally, air filter, oil filter. 350Z parts can be fitted but only limited to engine parts, suspension, and braking. Exhaust from 350Z can be used but need to be extended as the 350Z wheelbase is shorter. Get it insured on the road, so in case you need some imported parts after an accident e.g. headlights, fenders, body work etc it will be covered by your insurer. 3. what insurance companies are used? I'm currently using CGU and I somehow doubt the 350GT is in the list (at least on the online application)? Just Cars, Shannons, some people can insure imports through Suncorp Metway, Young and Cool but you gotta be under certain age etc. 4. any idea on the weight of the thing? just want to compare it to the 350z. Not on top of my head but roughly about 1560kg perhaps. 5. is it possible to replace the japanese dashboard with english ones? Nope. Premium model's TV/Nav Buttons if you mean can be replaced with US model but need someone like Chris Roger to re-wire it and fiddle with it as it's not a straightaway conversion. But the japanese software stays. There is a talk about getting a russian company to translate it but looks like it is still about half a year away at least before something is really happening. In the meantime if you want your TV & navi on premium model to work, you can get a locally tuned TV tuner & navigation installed and the input is via the TV/Aux. works for mine 6. if buying locally, what papers should I looking for? I suppose there would be papers for compliance, import tax, shipping costs + the usual car registration and do a revs check? anything else? compliance plate if done is now a sticker stuck on the b-pillar, usual spot. to register it first time in AUS you only need a copy of Consumer Information Notice provided by the RAWS workshop, here in VIC, Vicroads don't need to see the import approval if the compliance is done by a RAWS (registered Automotive workshop) and not a privately imported car (e.g. someone living in japan 12 months+ and bring the car back under personal import scheme). Plus roadworthy certificate RWC, and that's all. If the car hasn't been registered in Australia before then REVS check is not gonna show up anything. 7. does compliance test for things like: does the airbag works and etc? Not sure, I don't think so. it mainly involving changing the mirrors to flat glass, replace tyres and brake pads with new parts, ensureing exhaust, engine etc is not modified, headlihght conversion as the japanese fitted HID is not considered ADR approved, seatbelts, child seat anchor, etc. It doesn't check whether your electrical is working or not. 8. if importing, who is the recommended importer? I am looking at prestige motors right now though I'm not sure if they're the best. IMHO every importer has good story, has bad story too. problem with bad story is it is sometimes exaggerated as it passed along so at the end of the day/month/year it can be quite hard to filter out what's really happening with a bad case unless you talk directly to the person involved. But I used prestige before and it's good and I will use him again. 9. the maps can be upgraded to local? Nope but an Australian navigation solution can be installed and input through the factory TV display. see answer 5 10. how about the TV? how can I watch local channels? I suppose japan uses NTSC? see answer 5, get a digital tv tuner that can output as NTSC 11. do these come with airbag? can I use the specs off a infinity g35? Yes. driver, passenger and side airbags. not sure about G35 items. they are similar but not all parts bolt on, remember g35 in USA is left hand drive, ours is right hand drive.

Diy: Find Squeaks / Rattles From Centre Console
rs73 replied to WazR32GTSt's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
leather seats? leather squeaks and make fart-like sound when you move around... can't help it. -
With the updated interior trim does the transmission lever slides to the side to let you manually select up / down shift (tiptronic), or do you get a steering wheel paddle shift? It is an auto sedan, right?
-
Ah, I get it now. 12/03 CPV35 5sp M-ATx so should be the 96940-AL500 (0301-0305) if that means March 2001 - March 2005

The V Series Spotted Thread
rs73 replied to funkymonkey's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
While waiting at the traffic light coming out of Western Ring Rd, I spotted a silver V35 coupe today around 1:30pm on Western Hwy (Ballarat Rd) driving towards Caroline Springs... -
Are all US Spec Bose on G35 fits the JDM ones? I dont listen to AM so probably not an issue for me

what are they for?
-
a car-savvy one may always be able to spot non standard items no matter how or what you do to hide them. but just stay away from those shiny chrome piping, paint them black or flat silver if you have to and it will look stock.
-
Exactly, if it's not the Bose upgrade it's not really worth to keep, better getting an aftermarket unit than getting someone to spend time trying to fix the standard one.
-
True, probably only get a bit more. I've actually spotted a few HKS Supercharger or HKS twin turbo kit from overseas companies that is if anyone willing to spend a few thousands excluding shipping and fitting on the kit.. more like $7k+ I've even been quoted $17k by APS engineering for their 500hp twin turbo kit although they're not sure if it will fit V35 as the kit was intended for 350Z. Most will have airbag steering wheel that is already nice looking, there's no point spending money on some Momo race wheels with boss kit that might look out of place in such a car. If it's a premium model then it already came Bose amps and subs... if not then nothing stopping from going aftermarket.
-
yes, rare AWD on the sedan, may have some on USDM but not many in JDM or maybe they don't release for JDM
-
has it got infiniti badge when you bought it? I got infiniti badge on the boot but nissan on the front grille... it's quite hard to find USDM factory infiniti badge for the front grille, done lots of google searches but no luck.
