  1. I'm in WA mate, so don't know any dealers in Sydney.
  2. If they don't have the de-reg papers, steer clear. When a car leaves japan, this document is given to the importer. It's not something you would throw away. The auction papers are pretty hard to read as everything is in Japanese. I purchased mine directly from an importer, he was happy to offer me the papers when I asked. I have these on file and will pass them on with the car if I ever sell it. I asked another dealer for the papers on a V36 I was looking to buy, and he became very shifty and said they had probably been thrown away. I don't think he was expecting me to ask...
  3. You want to see a copy of the de-reg papers from japan, as this will have the last few years worth of km's on it. That way, you can tell if the clock's been wound back.
  4. It seems to be across the whole powerband, but particularly at low throttle.
  5. I wouldn't say its in my head, as I didn't know it had a grounding kit until after I bought it. But it definitely had a definite power advantage over the others I drove, like I said- is there a way I can tell if it is chipped or has aftermarket cams
  6. I didn't say the grounding kit helped with any extra kw, but it certainly seems to help with throttle response and shifting. Don't knock it til you've tried It
  7. One of the factory options was the power duct, which is basically an upgraded cold air induction. They give the car a nice growl over the normal factory air box. I had to crawl under my car to make sure the exhaust wasn't aftermarket!
  8. Yeah I did a bit of research into grounding kits, and apparently they do wonders, particularly for autos. The thread I found was for a us website, I think it was g35driver.com Someone asked if they actually do anything and the responses were all overwhelmingly positive. Still, great car, ant it'll run rings around my old R34
  9. ^^^ I bought my auto V35 350GT coupe from a specialist importer. Compared to all the others I test drove, mine seems to have a noticeable advantage in acceleration over the others. The car was auction grade 4, other than a grounding kit, tein coilovers with EDFC and the factory powerduct (with K&N panel filter), the car is stock. There seems to be very touchy throttle response, particularly at low rpm. I cannot find out what could be generating the extra power! The dealer seemed to think it was chipped. I checked behind the passengers side panel, and the ECU is stock. Would there be any other way to see if it is chipped? A friend seems to think it may even have upgraded cams- apparently this is pretty common in Japan as it gives them a bit more low down power and torque. By comparison, I drove one (not from the importer, but someone who was selling privately) with a kinetix plenum, stillen induction and performance exhaust, and I think mine would leave it in the dust. I haven't done a standing 0-100 yet, nor had it dyno tested.
  10. I don't have the premium model, so I cant see the fuel usage. Off a full tank, I usually get around 500-550km which is in relatively stop-start traffic. This is fantastic compared to my previous BA XR6 and comparable to what I was got from my Mitsu 380
  11. Hi guys, I recently purchased a V35 350gt with a Carrozzeria AVIC-VH9000 dvd/gps unit. I am the first owner of the car in Australia. The unit has a space for a hard drive, which was not included with the car. The head unit does not power on at all. I have checked the accessory fuses and all seem to be ok. I am just wondering if it needs the hard drive to be installed in order to power on. The car came with Tein adjustable coilovers with a cabin controller. these were taken out to pass the pits, but have since been re-installed. I am thinking that they may have disconnected the stereo when they disconnected the coilover controller, and not hooked it back properly. I have not had the chance to crack the dash open as yet. Does this seem like a likely reason? I know I can get a Replacement double din reasonably cheap, but I really only want to use the CD player/ ipod connector anyway.
  12. Took my bundles of fun out in my V35 over the weekend. I was actually surprised about the room.
  13. Yeah mate, Insurance is a complicated issue. It may sound like a cliché, but read the PDS.
  14. Just Car does not receive any remuneration or commission from AAMI for the services it offers. They use their assessor centers etc (like I said, they are owned by the same company) and preferred repairers etc. They are not the same company. Its like coles and bunnings- Both owned by Wesfarmers, but run as their own independent business. I have detailed knowledge of this, but cannot go into the hows
  15. Just Cars policy is tailored to under 25's, or people with a less than stellar driving history. I was insured with them in my younger years and never had a problem with them. Have you tried Shannons? They have stricter underwriting guidelines, and you need to meet their criteria, but they do low usage policies and have lower excesses. They also do montly premiums for free. Ive been insured with them for a few years now, and made 2 claims. Never had a drama. I had an at fault accident about 4 years ago, I took my car where I wanted it to go. Shannons sent an assessor and there were no problems. I got rear ended 2 years ago. Shannons was ready to pay me out within a week. I ended up claiming through the other persons insurance, and it took 6 weeks to get my payout.
  16. Just want to go on the record here: Just Cars is not a subsidiary of aami. Both companies are owned by suncorp group, who also own Shannons, APIA, GIO and a few others. Their policies are not alike, they are all run as their own independent businesses. When choosing a policy, the devil is in the details. Choice of repairer is important, especially with JDM cars. But you need to be careful, as some companies actually mean choice from their list of repairer! Or will not guarantee the workmanship if you use your own. Do not go with companies like budget, youi, real insurance or any "online" companies with "any" insurance as most are not based in Australia, so good luck resolving any issues. Plus, their policies are crap. Insurance is risk based- the higher the risk, the higher the premium. Expect to pay a packet if you live in central nsw or vic or under 25. Mods put the price up as well.

  19. Nothing wrong with v36's mate, the car itself was not the best example
  20. After doing a bit of thinking, I have decided to opt for a freshly imported V35 coupe from another provider. While I think the V36 was competitively priced, it isn't perfect. I want a car that I can be proud of, and gets looks for the right reasons. Thanks for the input guys
  21. I spoke to the dealer today, and the import papers are available for inspection. They also have the Jap de-reg papers too.
  22. Thanks for the responses guys. To be fair though, I don't mind the cream interior! Like I said though, I had to stretch the budget to afford this one, otherwise I would have gone for a V35. The interior is tidy, and there are no major signs of wear inside, other than the steering wheel. There are a few scuff marks around the drivers door handle, and a bit of curb rash on the wheels (though I plan to change the rims anyway). The price is several thousand cheaper than any other they had in stock, though admittedly, they have approx 1/2 the Kms. The guy I spoke to said they have the import papers, so I will be sure to have a look. I have a few mates that deal with fabcar quite regularly, and they are quite reputable in perth. I am also being given an extended warranty as part of the sale. It drove straight, and shifted smoothly. The engine bay and interior give the impression that it has been a well maintained car, though I have learned that looks can be deceiving.
  23. Hi all, after a few years of searching and convincing my wife, she has let me invest in a new toy. After initially budgeting for a good, clean V35 coupe, I have decided to spend a little bit extra and go for a 2007 V36 350gt sedan. I have decided to go for the practicality of a sedan, and not listen to the selfish part of me that wanted a 2 door. The car is the 5 speed auto, Type S. After the initial test drive, I was quite impressed by how it drove. The boys at Fabcar in Perth have offered me a good trade-in price on my old wheels, and I am seriously considering the purchase. See below for a few pics of the vehicle in question. I have scoured the forums, and spent a lot of time on Google looking for the ins and outs of owning one, but good info seems hard to come by. Just looking for some feedback on people that have owned them- Are there any warning signs I need to look out for? Is the servicing straight forward? How do they fare as a daily? Any feedback would be appreciated!
  24. Hey guys, I have recently used a turtle wax polish to clean my headlights, which worked great. The probelm is that there is some condensation and yellowing on the inside. I have heard a few stories on how to fix this, including heating the headlight cover off with a hairdryer to get inside. Has anyone got any ideas how to fix this without too much trouble? Bearing in mind i am 100% NOT mechanically minded?
