  1. i was behind you that night 09one ,i saw it all , was a good run. i was in my vl , but met up with a few of the redcliffe boys that night at aspley.
  2. cams , once dialled in , and matched to your other components (turbo , boost , computer etc etc) will make a world of difference. definately grab a set of adj gears too.
  3. try Tighe Engineering (Tighe Cams) get some cams ground to match ur turbo , computer , boost selection etc. grab a set of springs too while ur at it
  4. roy i weighed a rod , endcap , rod bolts , piston , gudgeon and c clips all as one unit , and the weight was 1.25kg. if u want i will seperate them , and just do the rod and piston alone. cheers
  5. it is best to keep the machining of the cyl walls to a minimum if ur planning running high boost , 20psi plus. though there are plenty of chaps out there with 1mm overbore and are running high boost.
  6. yeah im just a SLO-3L(itre) aswell
  7. a little off topic , just curious i am a firm believer that nissan is best , in terms of quality of parts etc i have always used nissan head gaskets in mine and other vlt's in comparison , what are hks and tomei gaskets like etc? any of the hipo skylines use them , mario etc?
  8. hahahahaha davey - is the gt35? on ur car yet? ps does ur car get wheelspin i quite enjoy leavin $70k hsv's etc for dead , not coz they are fast cars , but coz the silly bugger has spent so much money on a shitbox. gotta love beating skylines too hehehe
  9. base maps on any comp are there to get the car started , not to be daily driven on. do u feel that the car is performing well , or is it a bit more rougher than before the comp was installed? as said above , get it tuned asap
  10. agree totally any of you serious boys index ur plugs at all?
  11. joel i am aware and i understand what ur saying just that we cc'd it correctly and found a slight variant of what we have read elsewhere. looks though we will use it as is , we figured that half a point of comp wont be to detremental.
  12. sydneykid thanks for ur advice mate , i respect what u say , i have read many a response from u and u seem like a very knowledgeable chap i will let him know the points u have made. my mate works for tighe cams , he is an engineer , i dare say he did his calculations correct but who knows. anyway , we planned for a cr of bout 8.2-3:1 , while using custom zorst manifold , gt35 or 30/40 dunno which one , custom inlet etc etc , anyway i will see what he says , also will try and grab the specs and post em up thanks again andrew
  13. just a note to some ppl a mate has just done a lot of work building his engine for his vlt its a stock n/a 3l bottomend , fully prepped though , and a 25 head , vct welded up. now it was made apparent to him and many others that bolting a 25 head to stock vl bottom would result in approx 8.3 comp , well after many hours work , we cc'd it all and it turned out to have about 64cc , which gave a comp ratio of bout 8.8:1 , too high for a performance engine as timing would be stupidly low. i know most ppl using this great thread are using forgies aswell , but just check out some things before going ballistic on ur new engine. anyway we are now going forgies for this engine , etc etc etc good luck to all who do the conversion , its a top idea andrew
  14. they are supposed to be the ducks nuts so i hope that everything goes well for ya. it also depends on who sets up the computer , how much fuel is goin in on cold etc anyway good luck mate
  15. microtecs are reknowned for having a poor cold start just gonna have to cope with it , a little bit of fiddling and u will get it better though. i have numerous mates with microtecs in their vl's , all of which suck on cold starts , i have an autronic and its wonderfull. bare with it though
  16. hehehehe what a funny thread not all vl turbos make this sound anyway as described earlier , if u want flutter , ditch the bov , throw a pod filter on , and after a few months , rebuild ur turbo. flutter sounds cool , but is also damaging to ur turbo in the long run.
  17. if its gotta go asap how neg are you on the price pm please andrew
  18. it could be done with the block in the bay , but u will have to take almost every ancillary off , inlet and exhaust sides , thermostat will have to come out as there is a welsh plug behind it (i think so on that engine anyway hehehe) best to do it outta car may i ask why ur doing it? one rusted/leaking?
  19. i have a mate who is making a smidge over 350 on his sr with a tdo6 , might be worth thinking about. and it has a bit more left in it too. as for the .63 or .82 , being a small engine the .82 may be a bit laggy , its similar to a few mates of mine , they have opted for the .82 over the 1.00 or 1.06 whatever it is , to suit a vl turbo. lag and power was rather different between the two , and thats on a 3l engine , so maybe the .82 may be a bit big for ur intended application. im quite sure u will reach ur hp level , with either turbo though.
  20. www.are.com.au cant go past them , for flow and cooling effientcy. does cost a bit from there , but quality difference is amazing. do it once and do it right
  21. pfc would be a better choice than a wolf.
  22. is that 300kw at the engine or wheels. i dont think it will reach 300kw at wheels , and if he is using the standard computer , it wont have the ability to run a fuel system , to handle 300rwkw. with that combo , id invest in a better fmic that the supra one. should push 330hp at the wheels or so , good luck with it.
  23. hahahaha i like ur style:D the ticking whilst cold , as said above is the lack of oil in the top end so lifters will tick. not too sure with skylines but in the vl , hydraulic lifters always after years of use seem to tick , and take a while to "pump up" when cold. a water pump most likely wont make noise at idle , it is more a load thing , hold it at 3k revs , in neutral , and listen for a definate clunky noise , more evident than a tick noise. sounds similar to a thrown big end bearing. injectors make a constant tick tick tick , be it hot or cold , day or night.
  24. wont be aircon id say its just lifters could be oil or water pump injectors tick does it happen moreso when its cold , then its a very good chance its just lifter. is it at idle or under load/speed
  25. try M R C Dyno and Performance he used to work for some nismo boys , he is a wizz with skylines and vl turbos. he did my autronic , he is a horsepower heroes winner , tunes his own shit etc very nice bloke
