Wakie Track Day Wrap-Up Thread - 5 March 2011
a20089 replied to GoldZilla's topic in New South Wales
Just street 595RS-R. BTW it was the fastest "whale" out there on 16yo suspension and nearly stock, 13th overall was a good result and unlikely to get better. Hey I came off the track many times "on purpose" to get those action shots and missed out on everyone -

Sau-Nationals 2011
a20089 replied to Sir Lord Van Von Vader'ham's topic in Australian Capital Territory
Dah, Moto GP and riding down to do a bike track day in October. Can't afford to do both. -
Getting boring. I was there, saw it happen and want to help Eric. Maybe the Moderators can remove (if they haven't already) the inappropriate references to Thunder's business (they would not normally be allowed anyway) and Thunder can let it rest. Then everbody will stop having to try and explain to a race shop how racing is different from a passenger instructional session.

Car is track ready, tyres a bit worn. Was looking at getting a set of the new federal true semi slicks, but now with the SAU/RENEW competition I need to stick with the street tyres to stay in class. I'm not sure what some of the other cars just ahead of me were running, but I know most of them were either full race cars or had serious mods and were running in club class. For the day (remembering SAU didn't do anything to promote the competition so many didn't know to go in a class) I was point leader despite blowing an intercooler pipe and loosing out on most of session 1 and all session 2. Are you guys still doing a lot of hillclimbs? or moving more to true races? I just don't have the funds for even low level racing.

Never.... That would put me in the same time bracket as Dennis in Duncan's full race car. With Dunacan only a second and a half faster again. http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results.cgi?05/03/2011.WAKE.S6.Y With Slicks I could probably pick up 2 seconds, but you seem to be saying upgrading the RSR's to real semi slicks will gain about 3 seconds. That's like saying my mostly stock GTR is as fast as the best SAUNSW car around Wakefield. I'd love to say you are correct, but I'm not that good.

Get the Federal tyres for a good cheap alternative to RE55's, and my full race brake pads I imported from America at half the cost locally. You can make a lot of savings if you try. Saying that any smaller vehicle is far cheaper to run and less damaging to components. I run a stock motorbike that apart from fuel has never cost me anything to repair or replace doing multiple track days. Only advange to the car and bike over a cart is I can drive them to the race track and drive them back, and they have a much broader market when I want to sell them.

Welcome back Michele, long time no post. I missed Mark and yourself at the recent track day. Knowing the times Mark can get with the daily car, he'd probably would have been sticking to the Evo that took fastest car of the day.

It was a incident, there are no moral legal grounds for compensation and Eric probably should have not mentioned his thoughts about seeking legal recource in an open forum. However your initial post was insulting to Eric and to most people. It got me miffed and I know you were not involved at all. You can clearly state you were not involved and leave it at that (which an Exec member had already done). Other "facts" like the car was going to make the corner were not needed. Your offer to fix the exhust system if needed should be seen as a chip in like any other member. I'd like to see the driver offer to chip in similarly out of the goodness of his heart, but only the goodness of his heart. I agree we need to move on and help Eric get his car fixed. PS, an experianced V8 race driver with thousands of laps experiance on the race track in a full preped race car on slicks can only get 1.10.1??? I only do 1 or 2 track days a year in a stock car with a bit of extra boost, on road tyres and am only 0.5 sec slower? Either I'm doing the wrong job or something doesn't add up to me.

Not sure exactly on that one, but it would not have mattered, the MX5 was off the race track at the time. I find it hard to imagine that the impact occurred around the corner. I've completed all my breaking and am starting to accelerate where the car came off, and we are doing very similar times be it I only have street tyres. I know how it could of happened, but relying on turning the steering wheel to slow the car with limited brakes seems a stupid idea when there's a sand pit awaiting cars with no brakes. Anyway it is a racing incident and there was no malice involved. I'd like to contribute to the repair bill, and I'd love the person responsible to match dollar for dollar everything that SAU as a group contributes. It's wont pay for the repairs but it will assist someone who has put their own time and money into the club for the members. I know if anyone wrote off my car I'd be crying, it would be the end of SAU for me as I would not have the money for a new car. edit yes it was that car tonton

Wakie Track Day Wrap-Up Thread - 5 March 2011

That Silvia was FAST, never seen one that could travel fast in a stright line before. Kudos to the pilot. It must of had some serious mods, handeled very well and pulled on the straights better then my GTR. -
Sounds like we may need to join on with another club to get the numbers. It's been awhile since my car's been running full numbers, so I'll turn up.

Buy it, it's always worth it. IMHO they did not win, apart from the obvious, a rotary was not placed first, and I have no idea about the final official point standing. However during interclub competitions (at the club level, ie SAU or RENEWE only) a scoring method similar to below is often used. Based on the best times of everybody, last place gets 1 point, 2nd last gets 2 points, 3rd last gets 3 points etc. RENEW = 390 points SAUNSW = 645 points I'm a management accountant, just tell me what you want the numbers to say and I'll make them say it -
Wakie Track Day Wrap-Up Thread - 5 March 2011

Maybe we could keep the thread about the awesome day oth the 5th (excluding the first ever SAU track day bingle) and leave the possible entrants of the next trackday to another thread? -
Yes only missed 1st and 2nd sessions. Bragging rights were mine for the SAU RENEW competition in street class.

Had a blast guys, despite a intercooler pipe that exploded 2 laps in. Thank god thats all it was. a HUGE plug to Ultimate tunes in Phillip ACT for getting my car up and running and stripping one of thir customers cars to do so (yes he agreed to it). I would have had no idea how to strip the car. Booze on the way to those guys. Correct me if I am wrong but believe I was the only ACT car running (the other being parted to fix my car). It would be great to see more guys from the ACT actually come to a track day to race (great support from the ACT onlookers though). Finally got into the big boys group and felt the tyres were useless, maybe too worn I thought, I had trouble catching anyone and that EVO was just flying past me, then realised I was doing the same times, just up against better car/driver combos, duhhh... Did a personal best at 1.10.6, was looking at an easy top 10 place before al those other GTR's in session 5 put down some great times. As a near stock 33 GTR and the only one that made it into street class on the day, I was happy with the car and myself. Maybe one day Reece will bring his skyline out to play and show us how it's done, hey Reece??? Had a talk to the renew guys about the interclub competition going on the the background of these track days this year, seems really easy to get some prizes just for turning up and not crashing. In street class I'm apparently tied for first with the RENEW tresurer, I'm not sure how that happened or how it exactly gets caculated, but if just turning up and lapping consistantly is all it takes then anyone could win it, and hell it's free to enter and there a chance of getting useful free stuff. I'd love to hear more about how it works. WTF is a TK-80??? Is this a GTR with the user TK-80? Big thanks to the guys putting this on and the photographers for the day. I saw some video of the day being taken and that will probably be great as well, can't wait to see it.

Tis a good day. Despite my issues.
-
I'm only just out of bed
-
I'll pay on the day then. No point EFTing the money this late.
-
And a lot better then the local camera man on the track. I shoot better pictures.
-
Photo's were very well done last track day. As I said I will buy in for this but not much point sending the money off with still needing 10 people.
-
Yahooooo.. $1100 for my first set of Kumho semi's ...ahh a guy can dream.

a20089 replied to sycorb's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
I'm not quite sure what you are selling? An RB26 with june 2.7 kit? but no top end, oil or water pump or/and an RB26 with an oil and water pump? Interested in the 2.7 kit engine, but would need to know a hell of a lot more information.
