All this AWD Japanese trickery is making me dizzy. What surprised me the most is that the Evo wagon was able to "stay in touch" even though some would argue it was because of traffic. I have to admit, the evo driver was working hard to keep up. No doubt the GTR would romp away with a similar effort. Still...if i saw that 35 id book the crap out of it to try and keep up.
-
i was surprised when the 350 zed just booked it down the straight past the evo and then WHAM, the evo dived right back in under brakes. It was really keeping up through the corners but got minced down the straights...
-
racing underground by any chance michael? Credit where credit is due, dammit!
-
? Spill the beans BB. Youre getting a 35? say it aint so! hope youre enjoying life on the fringes of society btw
-
Heres a great little video of a stock evo wagon trying to keep up with an R35 at FSW. I thought the evo did a great job trying to keep up although there was plenty of traffic. Some of the "traffic" looked pretty nice as well.
-
Ahaha, at least thats a more realistic outcome than BB's beloved but "very unattractive man" Kubica getting anywhere near the footsteps...
-
Kubica? Youre on drugs Richard. Hamilton to smash em by 20 seconds.

thanks cereal, appreciate the links. About the navi. There is a way to change the language via the Merc COMAND interface. I was reading about it on a merc owners website, so im not too concerned about that. There is even a way to hack into it. The language change is something you can do on any merc. As for the navi, I know the COMAND system can accept CD's of the maps from the country it is sold in.

Roy, get rid of quicktime. Its one of the crappier players. Go and down load VLC. They make it for both Windows and Mac. This thing runs any file extension you care to name. Best player on the market and the best thing is, its freeware.

gee! where'd you come across that website Mike!?

Hmm. Nick, you do know the GTR weighs a lot right? On par with the holden, correct? The GTR does what the Holden cant and no wonder with the technology it has beneath the chassis. This is the fundamental reason the two cars will never be ably matched, head to head. The Holden is all brute force and no finesse. The Skyline is uncompromising and knife edged. Both are packing similar numbers. Its 6 of one half a dozen of the other as they say. I got a laugh out of the LS1 owners forum where people were tossing up on which car to buy based on a few kilowatts and newton metres, lol. Thats besides the point. Its not because of the weight, per say... its mostly to do with the engineering. Having driven the GTR a number of times ( im going for another fang this weekend ) i can say its not comfortably livable day to day. It really doesnt leave room for compromise. You take it in all its rawness or you leave it. The thing that Nissan didnt manage to do was a good enough job finding the line between edge of your pants terror and stuck in city traffic boredom. In all honesty, and in that light i would argue that the Holden has struck the better chord. I agree with you on the comfort factor. Its only pleasant for the people sitting in the front seats of the GTR. NOT pleasant for those in the back...not that ive had to sit in the back. Youre a lucky guy for having enough money to have them both. Id still take the GTR any day though! :)

The evo wagon... I thought of that a little while ago...I can get them for around 3.5 at the moment and thats for the manual GT 6 speed. Has anyone seen any driving around? I would have thought they would be as rare as a 22b but much more modern. All i can say is i will have around that much to spend and i want maximum bang for buck. I am still leaning toward a merc, not the CL, ive done some homework and they have been ladened with dramas concerning the ABC system, amongst other things. Owners continually talk about how bad they are, one even talked of how the ABC exploded and his car went up within 5 minutes. NOT the car i want. The list is getting shorter though and i appreciate the input, keep it coming! 3.5 gets you a lot of car here...
-
is that the registered one or is it race and rally only?
-
I like the idea of having a car that rare but id be struggling to disagree with you on that point Nick. I wonder how long the current owners have been trying to sell... but... what if it was priced right??
-
I can see the appeal in it but if its rarer it will be harder to get rid of. Im not considering an NSX. Ive heard some bad stories from people who have imported them but you seem to have heard good ones. I believe the merc is a safe bet. A solid idea and they can be had very cheaply and hold an excellent resale value and most importantly, very often with under 30 thousand kays on the clock.. Even taking into account that after i pay 40 k to keep it here and another 5 to 6k to get it there, plus another 5 k to be sure, then market the thing according to current values - and then lopping off another 5 to 10 because its a grey import, i should still be way ahead...at least 10 - 15k... something thats achievable with a car like a 2002 E500 or a 2004 CLK 320 ( convertible preferred ), id argue.
-
i dunno...its a bigger risk, isnt it? Not to mention stretching 10 thousand more for it.. Dont know how the wife will react to this one...
-
these wouldnt happen to be the ones you are talking about? one is road registered and the other doesnt have VIN numbers... http://endeca.carsguide.com.au/w6.0-search...080001%20200000
-
found one! 22b with 30 odd Kays on the clock... http://www.goo-net.com/used/spread/goo/19/...0070627003.html its 45 Thousand though... I cant even imagine what it would fetch in Oz.. But it would be the rarest Subaru on the road without a doubt. Just the thing i need...a thief magnet. It would probably get flogged within a week. Maybe not flogged but keyed or dented or egged..or a combo of the above...
-
S204? not a 22B but its similar.. http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m49868006
-
Thanks for the heads up Richard. A 22B huh? hmm. I see a grey one parked near my house almost every day. I wonder if the owner would be willing to part with it? Id have to be a negotiating pro to pry it out of his hands im sure. Ive got my heart set on a merc though. 5 liter, leather everything, solid build, great resale and ofcourse brand recognition... I know its not a hard core drift or track or strip warrior but itll do the job very well for a year, without a doubt.
-
You may not have known it but Richard was saying that because ive been here for more than 3 years i should have done it 3 times already! 1 car every year if i play my cards right each time. Thanks for the tip on shipping insurance.
-
Thanks Richard, Very useful information. Its going to be a Merc. That much i am sure of. Im tossing up between a few different models. CLK, E series, CL500 or an S if i can get one with a 5 liter - all around 2001 - 2003. I can understand when you say i should buy for enjoyment and that is ofcourse one of the primary reasons but the other is to make enough coin to put back into the next one. Surely a merc worth 3.5mil here is worth at least 60k there? Yes, yes, enjoy, rinse and repeat. Thanks again.

Are you touched? That thing is begging for the thrashing of its life and have the anchors to give it plenty.

that RSR is flat out bollocksin hardcore pwnage...no two ways about it.
