a holiday is the best place to start. Trust me. I know you think what tell you is all doom and gloom, but im being totally realistic about it. I dont want you to have to endure times you havent anticipated happening. mate. its not easy over here but a holiday should sort out the wheat from the chaff. You dont need a ride to hook in with the girls. Whoever told you that needs a good bollocking. Just go to the nearest club and there are plenty to talk to. Its not hard...at least its never been hard for me to initiate a conversation. Having said that, if you dont speak japanese, dont count on that convo lasting for more than a minute! Some are saying Osaka. Im saying Tokyo. whatever..its still your money. If it were my money though, let me tell you what id do with it... Spend at least a few days in Tokyo. Theres so much here it will blow your mind. Head down to Kyoto for a few days and see all there is to see there and theres a lot to see. A little bit futher south is osaka. a day or two there will be enough. Around Osaka, in the Hyogo prefecture is Nara and Kobe. you should also save a day or so to visit Hiroshima. the history is deep and the city is definitely a phoenix that rose from the ashes. Im going there with wife week after next. itll be memorable im sure. Before you even think of doing any of these things get a "LONELY PLANET GUIDE TO JAPAN". that is your first step. Its a wealth of information written by people who have seen basically all there is to see.

Richard, the wife and i are going to hiroshima for an overdue holiday week after next. we'll be there for 4 days.I need some info on wheres good- we still havent booked a hotel yet- and im sure you can help a brother out. pm me when you get a chance.

you may be able to do it but your biggest problem will be the language. You will need at least a ni kyu before a company will touch you and at level you need to know at least 6000 kanji. Thats a staggering amount and if you want to know the truth, i only know about 200. Ask Poida a question if you have time. Hes going for his Ni kyu this year and hes worked like a dog to get there..and that while living over here. Hes the man to talk to.

im definitely not trying to come across as cocky. i can see why some would say that but ive only tried to give it as straight as i can. Its not easy to come over here, enjoy the sights sounds and lifestyle AND make some decent coin. its hard for 90% of people who try it. im not saying dont give it a go but im being realistic here.

Monty put Lowndes in the shade..and very nearly in the fecking tree!

i suppose its easy to be a Mr Charisma anywhere in japan. i just prefer to be one in TKY.

who said i was only teaching. I make 400k from my uni work..you think thats the only thing im doing..? 50,000 AUS a year isnt a bad wage anyone monkey can tell you that. Plus my wife makes another 50k and we arent doing too bad.
-
tim, listen to some logic. i gave my perspective, my opinion and im entitled to it. Ive been here for three years now, im married, and have serious intentions of staying. Im serious about my job and if your serious about teaching you wont want to work in an eikaiwa. you will want to get a job in a JHS, HS or uni. Most eikaiwa hire anyone with a pulse and that has dragged down the industry standard. Did you know NOVA will go ass up anytime soon? Yep, they are going bust. i have not been living under a rock as you erroneously assume. I have met tons of people. Im an outgoing person with a good heart and i have good will for the japanese in mind. I dont stare at myself in the mirror if only to set my hair and make sure the shave was straight. You think ive got my head up my ass but as i told the OP, i was going to say it straight and i did. How long did you stay here? You only met one girl to get an opinion from? Uni work for me IS the only way to go in "education". having said that, im working on business here and we will see where that leads. Op wants to come over here and make a go of it, Thats what i got from his posts. He may or may not like what he has heard but its the truth and ive been straight about it. I never said it wasnt possible, as the OP is probably still very young..not even 20 i imagine, so theres time for him to get his skills up and then come over here. before you start lampooning me for what may seem like bias let me tell you this. I am here to make a difference. Are you?

well you just met your first one on both counts. #SIGH#...Once the honeymoon is over, the hard work starts but the money is a good sweetener.

mate , listen. Ill give the info to you straight up but you may not like the taste of it. seeing as you have only finished year 11, no english conversation school will hire you. The absolute minimum is year 12 and that will at best get you a flexi-time position as they call it which will make you at best a little over ¥200,000 yen. thats around 500 AUS a week and trust me you go through money like anything over here. Im making over 400,000¥ and it gives me a moderate lifestyle but rarely extravagant. To the company, how can they think you will be an effective teacher when you havent even finished high school? I would give up the idea of staying for extended periods unless you improve your education. Trade schools dont count towards bettering your chances. If you dont speak the language, you will only be able to, by and large, work in an eikaiwa. there are other options such as barwork, but even those jobs only pay around 800 yen an hour. ONE drink in a bar will cost you that much much of the time and youve spent an hour picking up broken glass just to get it. If you are a good looking Mr.Charisma, you may be able to score modeling work. Ive done a bunch of stuff from tv commercials, to magazine shoots, stock photography, fashion shows and pay is good IF you can get the work which is NOT easy to do. I will say the same thing as richard. Go and get your education up first then think about japan long term. Its not a goldmine like it used to be here although people still think it is. theyre misguided. I do alright now and got extremely lucky to land a job at a uni which, in education, is where you want to be. I dont really know why people go and set up in osaka. Tokyo is bigger, brighter with many more opportunities, work wise and girl wise if you know what i mean. Do yourself a favour. Get on a plane and come here when you can for a couple of weeks. Before you start jumping into Language courses and the like, see it first and experience it first hand. If, after you come here you like it and want to come back ( which is very likely ), go back to Oz and do whatever you have to do to get qualified and get back. Youre not going to enjoy this place at all if you have to struggle from day to day, which is exactly what will happen to you if you come now or in the near future. What tim neglected to mention was that working for NOVA sucked, he taught monotonous lessons, worked under sycophantic bosses and generally eked out a living from paycheck to paycheck. If Tim didnt mind the working conditions then i guess we all just put up with it but its highly unlikely the average aussie just comes over here on a WHV just to see the sights, sounds and screw a few j-girls. People who say that after 12 months of being here are mostly delusional. for your information, the WHV is 18 months, renewable every 6. You can get the visa between the ages of 18 and 31. i have a question for you after all that,,....how old are you? Honestly mate, and dont take this personally, but if you intend to teach with the skills you have that ive seen in your posts you wont last very long.. Im serious when i say that if youre serious about this place, and trust me- you need to be to survive and grow here, then prove it and somehow an opportunity will open up for you in the future. Thats the way life works for me and ive got my best intentions out for you to see.

the tori is from hiroshima if im not mistaken, Richard? And that pagoda is part of Kyoto, Kiyomizudera i think.. Kyoto is magnificent. simply stunning..shame about how cold the people were there.
-
average cost? forget osaka. people come to tokyo to find the jobs. it depends. i pay over 115,000 yen which is about $1700 Oz a month. thats more than 260 dollars a week...now....take the image of an apartments size and divide its size by 3. Thats a Japanese apartment. now once you've done the math, you can ...add and subtract right?, add in at least ¥100,000k or around ¥1200 Oz for partying costs and whatever else a month..you seem like a partying type, and youre already looking at ¥215,000 yen a month. Most monkeys, not saying you have to take that route, make around that themselves by working as a slave at nova or any of the other fast food english schools. if you want to do it fine but dont complain to me when you say you dont have enough money to get your stuff, pay rent ,party, get that BOV for you ride back in oz, and it WILL happen, cause ill say well man, i aint that nigga to steal on! go an get yaself another 2 jobs mo' fo!

okay...ill say it only once.. please. please. PLEEEEEASSSSEEEE!! never mention a v8 supercar driver with pride on this thread ever again. its unsightly, unjust, euphemistic and downright insulting. skaife was never, EVER going to be good enough for an F1 drive and neither was Longhurst. but for ass kicking sake, and just this once, i reckon strife or longjohns would get a sniff on monty but by then the bogota bruiser would have knocked them both clean into next week...or put them both in the f**king tree if i were to coin the phrase.. if you want to talk up the V8 boys theres a thread especially for you and its not this one.

yeah Piquet was a brawler.. had some quick reactions with his fists as well as his cars! I wonder if jnr is as much a hothead as his old man..?
-
ive seen that vid... but i heard a rumor that kimis drink bottle is filled with absolut vodka at the start of every GP.. that would at least explain why he screwed up the pit entry in germany..he was already wasted!

what did i tell you? http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_new...es_art_id=32248 only thing thats left to fit is who will take the seat from speed for hungary...

i agree completely. Wurz nearly snatched 3rd from webber. someone was on here saying that he should be booted but i dont see rosberg the wonder child getting anywhere near the podium. Wurz has earned another year thats for sure unless williams is just chasing indian money which is highly likely.
-
yeah absolutely. Itd be a close call..judges decision i reckon..maybe Kubica on countback.

lol! dont you mean , battle to the finnish??!! :laughing-smiley-014: :laughing-smiley-014:

Ms Rs was a fair call.. still ralfs gotta be pissed big bro has been pissing on him from on high all his career... i reckon MS in 5 but ralf would land some solid hits thats fa shizzle. what would be the ultimate matchup then?? if there was any two drivers in history youd like to see take each other on in a fisty, who would it be? who would slug it out for F1s world heavyweight championship title fight prize.....??? more importantly, who would win and why????
-
ive got the ITV broadcast coming in at full speed!! screw listening to mr head up his ass bill woods.. and that even more so head up his ass former champ jones. he knows squat about contemporary F1.. what is it anyway about pairing a freaking noob who doesnt know shit from clay with someone who might know what theyre talking about anyways.. boggles the mind.
-
mighty fine ass you got there zman... perfect 10. i think the previous post was regarding doing that in oz, and if it is its a completely different ballgame. if it isnt, you dont even need a degree to teach here. some monkeys get a job here straight out of highschool..

didnt i give you the link to a site where youll never miss a race again?? if not, Pm me for details..
