  1. Nice job to all of you who put this together! The place many of us stayed was great and how good is a 100m walk to the pub and "steaks on stones". The wet pad was something different and a lot of fun. I do think someone with a detailing shop was responsible for getting us booted of the dry and onto the wet as there were some amazingly dirty cars by the end of the day. When Tink's car is dirty, you know it must be bad. The back track was fun. Next time perhaps we can get cones that don't like to jump out in front of my car. All in all it was a great event and I can see it just getting better.
  2. That is extremely disappointing as it really changes the nature of the event but at this point there really isn't much that can be done. I appreciate the hard work you guys have put into organizing this and its probably more disappointing to you than us that it won't go off as planned. I look forward to see what sic things you guys will come up with. Looks like we'll be getting 'em wet tomorrow.
  3. 1) I've driven mine from Sydney down to Sheperton to DECA twice and except for the fact that 7 hours in a GTR will kill your back I was fine. 2) I have a stock motor except for an external oil cooler ( a must for track work). Mine is on the track or at a kahana once a month though I (my mechanic actually) take very good care of it. No issues at all around breakage. Of course if you thrash and abuse it, expect that not to be the case. 3) I don't see why? You won't regret getting a GTR. IMHO 33's are probably the best value as many of the 32 are getting old and the 34 still cost twice as much. You should be able to find a nice one for 30K or so.
  4. I drove solo down to DECA. This will be much shorter.
  5. Are you going down with us at 11????
  6. Starting in Cammeray. Were just off the M5 (see map) and about 10 min north of the bridge. You're welcome to follow us there We'll depart our house at 10, quick stop at the Shell (w/ VRacing 100) in Neutral Bay if anyone needs it and then head across the bridge and down the eastern distrubutor to Casula . Let me know if anyone is coming this way so well be sure to look for you. My mobile is 0437 146 961.
  7. The problem actually is that an importer called Motorex was less than honest with the US DOT and the ability to import Skylines was pulled. I'd like to get mine back home to the states but importing GTR's now is virtually impossible. I'll never argue that a Ferrari isn't a fantastic car however I would point out that when the R33 GTR set the lap record at Nurbergring the Ferrari's, 911's, et al at that time couldn't best it. The advance of technology means that many "moderate" performance car today can outperfrom the supercars of yesterday.
  8. Sounds like maybe 2 waves? One at 11 at Casula Bunnings as already planned and another sometime in the afternoon (time to be agreed). Those coming down the M7 will find Bunning an easy stop to pick up Sydneysiders who want to tag along.
  9. Late Saturday Morning Departure How about a meet at the parking lot of the Casula Bunnings. It is near where the M7 & M5 meet so anyone can access from either. We have used this as a meeting point for Wakefield days in the past. I'd suggest if we meet there at 11AM that will give everyone plenty of time to get the usually Saturday morning running around done (and the Coasties time to get down) but still get us to the destination with plenty of time (even with a lunch stop). It is located on the photo below just to the left of where it says "the Crossroads" Take the Hume Highway exit if coming from the M5.
  10. mmmm let's see - I believe I did have one DNF late in the day at DECA
  11. It wouldn't be quite fair if the organisers who are also running knew the course well in advance and the rest of us just found out on the day.
  12. Compared to no car, in in some cases still making a car payment on the car that was stolen, it is very cheap.
  13. Are you going to post up courses a couple days in advance?
  14. Looks like Ando is on with us now. We're booked at the Eagle place Jess recommended. Its working out to about $30 something a person so its worth going down early and not having to get up at an absurd time Sunday morning.
  15. Agree that anything below 7:30 would be amazing. From what I understand that was a stock car on stock tires.
  16. You can spend plenty of money on a GTST, match the HP of a GTR, and you still will fall well short on perfromance. A GTR is not a higher horsepower GTST - a GTST is an Skyline built to sell to those who couldn't afford GTR performance. Think Porsche Boxster & 911. You can't make a Boxster into a 911 no matter how much money you throw at it. Its is still a good car in its own right - but not the same. GTR's do cost more to maintain - no doubt. They will cost more to mod. You really need to decide what you want the car for. Nice looking street car? Incremetal value is minimal. Fast street car? Thats a tough one as thats not hard to do with GTST . Track weapon? Absolutely no comparison.
  17. We're (wife and I, Chubbs & Georgie, DIF) booked into the place Jess highlighted on the first page. Not sure when we'll head down but will probable be good to convoy down with others.
  18. A comparison between the price of crude and the pump price is not a complete comparison and is a long way from a smoking gun. Even assuming we are looking at Dubai crude (versus WTI or Brent - all crude is not equal) you also have to consider refining capacity in Asia. There is a finite capacity to refine gasoline and the price will in large part be determined by existing inventories (how much gas there is already) and refinery capacity (how quickly we can make more) versus the demand for those supplies. I'm not making a statement that prices were or were not correct - just that it is much more complex to understand.
  19. I need the V-Spec decal for the back on my '95 GTR. Can you tell me what the number is for that?
  20. Fantastic guys and gals! Makes you feel good when you see great people do well. Now we'll really be looking forward to your trip up to NSW.
  21. You shouldn't get that much tire wear at all - assuming you are trying to drive well - as opposed to drifting the course which might be fun but is much slower. You should also remember that each run will only last 2 minutes max and probably much less. You'll spend less time "racing" than one session in an average track day. In most cases the tires won't heat up and get sticky the way the would after a few laps on the track. Most people who race these types of event run tires specifically design to warm up very quickly - more so than the average semi. I've run street tires (Federal 595s) at both DECAs and don't think the disadvantage to semis was anything like on a real track. If you're uber good you might notice the difference. On the skid pan you'll find out quickly it is all about driving skill.
  22. The Elk is correct. If you want handling performance and elimination of body roll get sway bars. These are the single best thing you can do to increase performance of your car. Lowering a car won't reduce body rool - it will simply roll from a lower center or if it rolls too much hit bumpstops (bad thing). If you want to lower it for appearance purposes, thats different.
  23. Take a look at the Bilstien price on the Sydney Kid Group buy.
  24. Are there still spots C? Feel the need for speed....
  25. Marilyn and I will probabley try to stay wherever everyone else stays.
