What's the HP limit for the 21U turbine housing?
Torques replied to Torques's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Would you have a dynograph for one of your high flowed OP6 and 21U hybrids? -

So did you get the 21U turbine housing? And how laggy was the OP6? -
What's the HP limit for the 21U turbine housing?
Torques replied to Torques's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks for the replies ... I'm about to install a new hybrid with billet wheel. My car has already a hybrid (21U) installed and makes about 14PSI @ 3500rpm / 540NM @ 3900 and about 260KW at the rear. I like the responsiveness but the engine gradually runs out of urgency from 5000rpm onwards (boost declines), so 280KW+ would be nice. Now I could have the OP6 housing machined and put on that new turbo but I don't want to introduce too much lag. (car is used mainly in traffic or around town) I read here that I would lose about 500rpm for same boost levels ? (OP6 vs 21U) -

Any news on this? How did it go with the 21U? -

Differences Between R34 And R33 Turbo

That's how it looks when you run the turbo over 12PSI .. Never found the turbine wheel I guess it went straight through the exhaust. The compressor is nylon btw. (this coming off an 1998 S2) Actually I was running this turbo at 14PSI for a while and thought I was lucky. But when I went to the drag strip and floored it went on the first run -
OK, thanks for that. It must depend on the fuel pump that is how much pressure/flow they build up. Also the standard R33 has a fuel pump controller in the back/boot. It drops the fuel pump voltage at idle and low load. Most after-market ECU's don't handle the fuel pump controller right, so the pump always runs at full voltage.

What kind of fuel pump are you using? Also what ECU?
-
You're correct .. same compression ratio

I'm at 260RKW with the currently installed hybrid, or did you mean 320RKW? Alas I prefer responsiveness to top end since the car is used 99% on public roads.

It's international English here marveling is not a far fetched word in either spelling. The Queen would possibly not use it. But the rest of the population has no issue with elevator (lift), holidays (vacation), gas (petrol), highway (motorway), apartment (flat) or marveling

You don't have to convince me mate I've been following Hypergear's developments for long.

Thanks Stao, 500rpm is a figure I can understand, not sure it's worth 15KW From your experience what is the power limit for the 21U housing due to back pressure?
-
Yes, the housing would get machined to accommodate the larger wheel marveling -> http://www.dictionary.com/browse/marveling

Yep, that's still an option ...thing is that I'm in the UK and postage/import duty would make things expensive.

Hello, I found the first dyno run I ever had with my (back then) standard GTST. Only mod was an installed boost controller to the standard turbo. HP figure is at the engine. Torque max is at 3700rpm So from what you're writing I understand that the OP6 exhibits more lag but this is offset by the different design of the head/runner/cams? The current hybrid I have installed maxes out at 260RKW, I'm not sure but I suspect this is also due to the restrictive 21U housing? (that's basically why I am looking at the OP6)
-
Happy New Year! Thanks for the input. Background is that I have a new hybrid turbo with the 21U housing. It's a prototype and for me to test. Since I have an unused OP6 turbo I was 'marvelling' if there were any merits in changing the 21U for the OP6. Picture one is Hybrid vs OP6 Picture two is OEM vs Hybrid
-
Lag vs top end ... if that helps
-
Thank you, The background is that I have an OP6 exhaust housing and I am marvelling if it's worthwhile to use that housing on a RB25GTST hybrid turbo (I'm concerned about lag)

Dynograph R34 GTT OP6 anyone? Can someone post a dyno for an R34GTT with the standard OP6 turbo? (Or OP6 on R33GTST if someone fitted one) I'm primarily interested in the boost curve Cheers

Thanks ...

Hello, What HP does the standard FPR support? (fuel pump is upgraded) Thanks
