Ive done the same thing as you. Gone from a commodore to a Skyline. Except I have an R32 & previously I owned a manual Gen III.
Theres nothing scary about them with mods if you have common sense. The only time it can get a little shakey is in the wet, and you get use to that anyway. I only have a front mount, pod, exhaust & running around 9psi. Its no rocket ship but it does the job. It also has mad Tein suspension set up and it holds to the road like nothing else
Make sure you buy the right one. I saw plenty I liked but ended up buying mine, even though there were a couple of little things to fix (hole in dash = $30 off a guy wrecking his 32 for a perfect one, still got a rip in the drivers seat = retrim anyway )
Just depends what you want. If you want a stock one, then hold out. You wont be very satisfied with the performance though. Other side of it is you know whats been done and you can see the improvement of your modifications.
I wouldnt be scared of buying a modified one, just check it out and see if it looks legit. Ive been extremely happy with mine, and would never go back to my previous cars as opposed to the 32.
