wow. you got screwed over bad. did this tuner recommend this ECU to you? what is his explanation of more boost and same power? or bad starts? where is the dyno graph?
-
hks2540, 16psi, bosch 040. then stock ECU + SAFC. no mention of AFM, injectors... then leaning out to 20 on safc with no mention of "on the dyno with a wideband A:F sensor up it's bunghole". how about some more info.. has it been tuned on a dyno? what power did it make and at what boost? what A:F ratio is it tuned to? how are the modified external VN coil's being controlled by the stock ECU?
-
yeh.. I don't see how oil could come out the exhaust as oil. it would burn up and come out as blueish smoke. What do you mean by "base map tune"? what ecu? got a dyno graph showing a:f v revs?
-
aparently the SAFC NEO that you have has an option for off throttle fueling or something which should stop the stalling caused by the bov even though it would be cheaper to put the stock one back on. anyway. yes it is also possible to fine tune the car that has a remapped ecu, using the SAFC NEO.

ok. 1.) iridium spark plugs can't be regapped. the iridium tip is pretty fragile in that any effort to regap it will damage it and leave the plug useless. 2.) hesitation at 5000rpm in the cars current state will only get worse with extra air flow from new turbo and more boost. if the car is taken to CRD as it is, they will not regap those plugs, they will insist on new plugs. new iridium plugs that is. and while tuning, if sparks starts to break up and you get the usual misfire at 5000rpm range, they will insist on new splitfire coils (around $500). This is why I suggested that you buy NEW COPPER plugs that are pre gapped to 0.8mm (but check them all with a feeler before instaling them). there has been many discussions on here about iridium v copper etc. iridiums will last longer than copper. however, copper as a metal, is a better conductor of electricity and is a superior material over iridium for that reason, when used in spark plugs. Go to supercheap and buy 6 NGK BCPR6ES – 8 plugs (the -8 is the one that is already gapped to 0.8) if they don't have that, then get the BCPR6ES – 11 (which is gapped at 1.1mm and you will have to gap them down to 0.8) they cost about $4 each. If I were you, I'd do that this weekend. then go for a trash. if you still get the misfire, then do the cheap fix of taping up your coils until you can afforf new Splitfire coils. Here is a good read on spark plugs from the resident RB Encyclopaedia. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...t&p=1932235 and here is my own instrucitons on how I taped up my coils. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...t&p=3202123 So I suggest you spend under $40 on tape and spark plugs this weekend, and about 2 hours of your time, and prepare the car for it's tune. I'm sure Jim will know what boost to set it to, but as a guide, RB25 turbo on a 2.5L RB25, general consensus is that 10psi is a safe limit. people have run 12 psi but not really got "that" much more power than those that run 10psi. however, puting that turbo on to a 2L means that 12psi would be like it was spining to create 10 psi on the 2.5L. so that would be a safe limit on the RB20. Personally, if I go back to an RB20 with RB25 turbo, I will set it to 14psi and get my ecu remapped to suit.

SAFC does not adjust timing so no. I don't think that you will get 180rwkw with an RB25 turbo and SAFC tune. also, don't forget the oil and plug change. they WILL make you do this on the day and they WILL supply and fit Iridium plugs which are about $22 - $25 each. times 6 = another $150. oil and filter + labour will charge you over $100 for that too. When you booked in for?

he knows I'm joking.. don't get all moderator on us now.

I'm sure CRD will do an outstanding job and will not make a mistake. what I am saying is that they are a very well known workshop with great experience and are pretty much famous for what they do. this sort of creditation does not come cheap. if he said $250 to replace turbo and $200 for tune, then I hope that he keeps that. If I were you, I would do the following before going there for this work. Oil and oil filter change. air filter change/clean new copper spark plugs set to 0.8mm gap (search these forums for part number you need to buy) tape up your coil packs (search forum for this too) Also, going by your first post... I will assume that all these items will need to be fitted/installed/set? you will be charged extra for time to install all of these. and parts like clamp for the walbro pump, vacuum lines for the boost controller, the nipple that needs to be tapped in to your Intercooler piping for the boost controller to be used with the RB25 turbo. also, if you don't have the elbow pipe (first part of the intercooler piping bolted to the turbo) from the RB25, then they will charge you for modifying the stock one to fit. There have been no mention of gaskets in your posts and I doubt that CRD will use the gaskets that are on your car now as they may leak and you will complain to them so to prevent this, they will get new manifold to turbo and turbo to dump pipe gaskets (about $35) Bolts/studs that will snap = $?? not much. time taken to drill out the broken studs = $?? not much cost of new stainless studs, bolts, and those little washer type clamps that hold the bolts in place = $?? not much. If you can, I would seriously ask for the quote for all of the above in writing. Also, I'm surprised that CRD took on this job as it is a VERY small job compared to what they are known for. I can assure you that all of the wrench work above will be done by an apprentice and the tuning of the safc will be Jim. I suggest you have alot more than $450 with you or set aside when you go to pay. I hope for your sake that you walk out with 180rwkw and $450 lighter, but I doubt it all very much... on both the power and $'s.

TTT replied to Demoniak's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
I assume this is supposed to be Apexi Power Intake? as in a pod filter? -
I was told that QT had to inspect it them selves in one of their inspection bays when I trie dto change my NSW plated car to QLD. so I just sold it unregistered and the next guy did it. others on here have just said that you have to get a RWC for it and go to QT with the cert and rego papers from NSW and the plates to hand in.

Blitz - isn't 5-30 what the nissan recommendation is? and if it is a freshly rebuilt engine (20K kms), then is it really a problem? more info on what/when it happened would be good too. idling along freeay at 110kms or giving 1st and 2nd a good rogering?
-
there is no way in hell, your series 1 skyline will sell for $18K with all those in and tuned. no way! if you are looking to make the most money you can from it, take it back to stock EVERYTHING and sell it for $12K if you are lucky. then sell the turbo, cooler, pfc, wheels etc. apart from the PFC, no-one is going to pay you what you paid for it for any of those items, even if it was plugged in and turned on to check the time or whatever your reasoning is. skylines really are dime a dozen these days. I'm not trying to be mean or puting yor car down. I'm just trying to make sure that you don't go advertise your car for $18K to find that it is $4K over every other GTST there. Take a look at what a stock series 2 goes for and take off $2K to your asking price, then be prepared to sell it for almost $2K less than that. then get your $40K loan for the R34 GTR.

oh yeh. the cops will then go.. oh ok. no worries. on your way my good man. if you don't want to pay for a mod plate, then at least make sure that the engine number of th enew engine is on your rego papers along with the receipt of the purchase of the engine. then remove the coil pack cover that says 2500 so if you get pulled over, and the cops decide to do an engine number/rego check on you, at least it will all line up fine.

Maxed Out Injectors - Possible To Swap ?
TTT replied to SAM-32R's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I haven't used it but if you can setup the injectors on the ecu, surely you can see what they are set to now. -
