How Much Power Can You Get Out Of An Rb20 For $5000
TTT replied to smallman's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Forget the RB20 and skyline. Buy my Liberty RS with EJ20 rebuilt in 2004 with forged bits. RECEIPTS for about $6K of engine work. $9,800 -
You paid $2.2K for an exhaust? holly f**k! How far down the exhaust is the gay pipe now plumbed in?

How Much Power Can You Get Out Of An Rb20 For $5000
TTT replied to smallman's topic in General Automotive Discussion
yes. some people say "do it right the first time.." I says Do what you can now and then sell and do something else later.. How much power is "much more power later"? For $5K, you're going to have one of the following. the 240rwkw RB20 I said above. Stock RB25DET. Possibly Stock RB26 from an 89 model GTR Possibly a choked RB30/25det The fact is that one mans trash is anothe mans treasure. you spend $5K on your RB20 now. save more money. get bored. Start an RB30/25 det build in the background or even rebuild an RB26 to factory specs (I think one guy did it here for $6K) and once done, you can sell your RB20det parts and engine off for a few $K sell it all seperate. someone is always looking for something. turbo, coil packs, injectors, turbo, manifold, head, bottom head, oil pump etc etc. then, you have your MUCH MORE POWER, and have sold your 240rwkw rb20det off to reclaim some money back. I don't know about you, but I don't have the $12K to do a forged rebuild of any engine along with new turbo's and pumps etc that so many people on here seem to be doing. Spend the $5K on the RB20. then sell it off later. this is ofcourse if you already have this RB20det powered car. If you are still looking at buying a car, I'd consider looking at buying one with a bigger engine already in it. here is one for you to consider.. hmm.. Looks like it might be sold.. RB30/25 r32 $10K It would have cost you ALOT less than $5K to fix that issue it had. This is the 2nd RB30/25 R32 GTST in Brisbane that was for sale under $15K the other one sold for $12K When you consider the fact that R32 GTST owners are asking for between $10K - $13K on average for a stockish R32 GTST, you would be wise to try and find one with a conversion already done. -
How Much Power Can You Get Out Of An Rb20 For $5000

he means buy an R32 GTST that has already had an RB25 conversion. I've seen one in QLD for $13K *searches carsales adds* here you go.. R32 with RB25 Might be an SAU member. anyway. the only RB25 any R32 got from factory was a non turbo RB25DE. The fact is this. Bang for Buck, R33 GTST has it over the R32. it has the RB25. it has the better gearbox. it has slightly larger brakes. However, the looks is not to everyones liking. For $13K, you could get a stockish series 2. for $15K, there are plenty of Series 2 R33's around. R32 prices are all over the place (search for the word DREAMERS and you find a really good thread) to answer your question of $5K on an RB20. Assuming the R32 GTST you buy has the usual FMIC, Exhaust and pod (like all of them) you will need. Turbo injectors pump boost control coils (maybe) clutch tuning I'd suggest that 240rwkw could be had with $5K on an RB20. I'm sure others are already thinking it and so should you. You need supporting mods to use this power. tyres suspension brake pads. not to mention that you'd want to make sure the engine is healthy before you do these mods so... oils (engine, diff, box) fluids (clutch, brakes, radiator) belts plugs compression test but as a simple $5K for how many kw, I'd suggest about 240rwkw -
^^^ didn't you do it for free?

the liberty has an even better setup that the stock nissan one. larger box, 3 inch PVC pipe straight from the wheel arch. anyway. back to the home created jobies.
-
I bet it works better than your "current" box.
-
Nah.. I need a decent chew toy for my dog. she tears apart everything else..
-
here is the air box I had made for my first skyline when I had it.. cool huh?
-
you're alright!!!
-
gaskets? between engine and manifold manifold and turbo turbo and dum pipe. see if all the bolts to those are tight (or even still there)
-
I thought that in QLD it just needed to have a bracket to secure it to the body and that no box was required..

how is the 2630 comming along?
-
possibly.. but more so that people still go and hang out with defectable cars at locations and do shit to attract attention, then get done. then complain. I can't wait till the first aus car crushing.. Just for you qld people... I worked at QPS for 11 months as an IT contractor. Believe me when I tell you this. They have accounts on every single online car forum you could think of. They organise these little "stings" as you guys organise your cruise/meetups. They will leave the charity cruise things be, but anything like "blah blah carpark meet and cruise to blah blah", will more then likely end up with internal paperwork being started to organise the required cars/man power/equipment required to defect you for your headlights that aren't alligned. I just think it's funny that people still don't learn. but yes, it's because I drive a liberty Poof!

I love these threads..

Did you have one arm out the window? and hand up in the air in a fist? if not, the car could be stalling and stopping as it is embarrassed by your lack of "proper doughey stylez"

bubba - you seem to be missing Labour. or the purchase of tools, engine stands, etc etc to "try" to do it yourself It's NEVER as you first think it will cost. I always refer to CEFFIE on here. he is definitely a one man machine.. does ALOT of shit himself and is very capable. he built a "budget" rb30det. set out a plan., got everything cheap, did it ALL himself. it took him twice as long, 2.5 times the money he thought and he is still trying to iron out some things. The thread started needs to work out what he wants out of this car. close to 190rwkw can be had from stock motor wit just an RB25 turbo and remap (along with intercooler and exhaust etc..) that makes a good little, not so laggy street car which could be made to run low 13's (possibly crack a 12.9.. who knows. that would set him back $1K for wrecker RB20 $350 for rb25 turbo $300 remap everything else is ALOT more expensive from there.. RB25 motor and box supply only would be over $2.5K then you have a stock RB25 in your car. RB30DET build will require the rb25 gearbox (at least $1K) as you said $4K to build (minimum) install - $?? tune - $?? injectors, afm etc etc - $? decide what you want from this car first.
