yes.. you can put Rb26dett and box in it. legally? are you allowed to use any RB26dett other than one that comes from an R34 GTR?

if the engine is in good condition and doesn't "breath", then you want the thinnest oil you can get away with. the first part of the oil numbers (0w40) is it's grade when cold. so 0 is as thin as you can get which is good. get him to check after a few weeks of driving and then again a month after to see if it is using up any oil. if it is, then it's too thin and will need to top up until the next oil change where he should try something else.. perhaps with a 5w or 10w the usual Castrol 10w60 recommendation is good on the usual 12+ year old engine which will have some wear. so the thicker oil won't get burnt up in the combustion process. there are also good threads regarding synthetic, semi synthetic oils which you can find on these forums.

I would: get another RB20 and have it put it. Strip your Broke RB20 for parts and advertise here. strip the RB25 bits you have and sell for parts here. you will have got your car back on the road and MADE money. which you can use for turbo, injectors and rechip.

what is this knock? only under load? or even if cruising? has anyone diagnosed the problem with the current engine? I don't know if I'd go jumping in to new engines and rebuilds etc before getting a professional opinion. if you are tight for cash, I'd either fix what is broken or get a replacement rb20, then strip and sell your current one. use the money from that for new turbo, injectors, pump and remap. I don't see why you would be unhappy with it after that.

you sure the hose to the boost gauge isn't the problem, rather than the boost controller. you could be running alot more boost than you think because the gauge is not reading right.

$100 = bargain. considering an R34 SMIC usually goes for about $150 cusotm piping might wet you back $50 - $100 max. this setup would easily cool what the stock turbo could push out and probably in to the 250rwkw type figures.

yeh it's got to be AFM related. if not the AFM, then the plug, if not the plug, then the loom it's connected it. the engine bay gets pretty hot on a daily basis. heating, cooling over and over for 15 odd years. plastics and so on are going to get frail. make a small change like removing the air box to fit a pod and you have to disconnect the afm, the plug, bend stuff around to remove things... things can break/split.

I left sydney to move here. yes things close early. who cares. everything else is better. as a guide, I sold a 2br unit in Lane Cove for $60K more than what I paid for a 4br house in the northern burbs. BNE for the win.
