Stock Bov Leak? Or Just My Imagination?
TTT replied to WazR32GTSt's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
ok.. the only other thing I can think of is the gasket between turbo and manifold. I say it only because my VR4 was really loud on boost (ONCE WARM). when it heated up, the boost/air leak sound was louder and louder. so maybe something to look at. I'm all out of ideas there mate. -
yeh but you can't rev it hard bro. That's why the rb20 is da best engine bro.

Why Do People Install Boost Controllers With No Fmic
TTT replied to Dose Pipe Sutututu's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
stock rb20 has about 10psi. good turbo back exhaust and free flowing intake will take it to about 11.5 psi anyway. my old one did. rb25's can't go over like 9.5 psi using stock ecu properly anyway... so they can go from 7psi to 9.5 psi. rb's can go from 10-12 psi. I wouldnt bother with a FMIC on a street or drag only car for someone who has put the boost up 2-3 psi over stock. also, some people put boost controllers on to make their cars spool up faster. they keep the wastegate shut for longer therefore turbo comes on boost quicker. so yeh.. I don't think that you are right in saying its STUPID to run more boost without fmic -
Stock Bov Leak? Or Just My Imagination?

hahahaha. well there are 2 ways I can make you a believer.. one is probably easier than the other. 1.) you catch a plane to sydney, pay about $50 for cab to my house. I'll take the bov off, take the screw out of it, then you take it for a spin for 5 minutes or so, then I'll put it back on and you can drive it around again.. or 2.) as above, just try it. how can you say it doesn't work or don't believe it if you havent done it? Ignorant is the word I'm looking for here.. -
hahahaha if you think that changing the factory small heat sink to an aftermarket larger heat sink is the same as changing the factory plumback bov to an aftermarket atmo venting bov, then my advice is wasted. it's your car mate.. I was simply trying to save you some money and time. all the best.

I would have thought that the restriction would be in the intake pipe from the box to the turbo and the intake pipe from the outside to the box. fix those 2 up and I'd say the stock air box and k&n panel would be just as good if not better than pod.

Stock Bov Leak? Or Just My Imagination?
TTT replied to WazR32GTSt's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
well there is no circulation of air when you jump on the accelerator. the hole is there to make boost come on smoothly. and make the transition between on throttle and off throttle smoother. you block it off and as soon as you are on the accelerator, it begins to pull harder and build boost quicker as it is comepltely sealed instead of circulating air. same as if you got an aftermarket bov. they are good in that you can build boost quicker than factory bov without this mod. try it.. you've got nothing to lose. -
lag is not that noticeable. spray it black and put mesh in front my water temps with fmic is no different then without so you have to chop a bit why the big hassle? you take off a few mm of each fan blade.. how is that bad. it's an upgrade of a part that was supplied by the factory so it's NOT defectable. 12 psi is 2 over stock.. stick with your stock cooler then. and believe me.. it never ends at 12 psi with stock turbo.. you will always want more and then have to do it all over for the cooler later on. but don't let me talk you out of a waste of money.

Stock Bov Leak? Or Just My Imagination?
TTT replied to WazR32GTSt's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
stock bov is designed to CONSTANTLY have some air circulating. take it off. look at the bottom of it. you will see a small hole next to the bov piston. you can block this hole off with a flat headed wood screw. this has been covered many times and there is even a thread on here with pics on how to do it etc... block it off, stick it all back on and go for a drive. you will notice a few things. 1.) car will come on boost noticbly quicker. 2.) bov release sound is different (if you have FMIC, you may get some flutter, if you have stock cooler, it makes a louder psssh sound) 3.) spooling sound is less especially during low boost/cruising where the un modified bov would just constantly circulate the air making a constant shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound.. -
or you cvould have just gone the same speed as the surrounding cars.. instead of OBVIOUSLY passing them at 141km/h
-
ouch... should have just worked off the tacho.
-
hmmm... I see you have a few more mods than a cat back and hks pod filter.. good stuff.

fmic kit from just jap costs about $500 these days. why would you bother? kit includes all pipes, fmic, rubber hoses, clamps, screws bolts etc.. just gotta cut a hole in your battery tray and trim back the fan blades a little.

RB30/25 or 30/26 seem to be the flavour of the month due to making such good results with small outlay (in some cases), So I've been thinking what else is possible. and how are they done? what sort of dollars? rb24 is made using what? is the rb20 head usefull on anything other than the rb20 bottom end? what else, if anyhting, can the rb26 bottom end be used for? can an RB25 head be bolted to an rb26 bottom end? what would be the end result (obvisouly not as good as the rb26, but would it be better than a stock rb25?) what happens if an RB25 bottom end is put undre an RB26 head? can the rb20 bottom end be used with any other head and what would the outcome be? I'd usually PM this sort of crazy questions to SK, but he probably gets annoyed with all my dumb ideas so now you can all be part of it.. cheers

Some may or may not know. I bought this car from B-Man late last year. the paint was not in all that good a condition, interior was even worse.. hahahaha anyway, I had the little damadge in the rear right guard fixed, and had the thing detailed in and out, and I just spent a few hours on Saturday givign it a wash and polish. Next list of mods.. Matt black spray for intercooler and pipes. air con vents. so here are some pics to make him wish he hadn't sold it.

bump.. pics of 35%.. like I said.. not for the posers..

I already mentioned in this thread who makes the sump adapters. yes you can use the RB30 gasket. you can buy a VRS gasket kit which has all the gaskets for everything.

BU5TER ain't no rb25.. power is a great figure.. the boost curve seems weird and to me would be annoying.. Good luck on wednesday night. Just a question but have you done any drag racing before? and have you done it on slicks and have you done it in this car before? hope your clutch is up to the tastk Not trying to offend here.. I am just saying that you MAY or may not get good times depending on experience I guess. cheers

I think that last one is ROY's

isn't this the 120 degree bend that the gibson motor sport car uses? SK always recommends it too. I think ROY's piping is like that too. I think..!!
