  1. Joel. I found a clip on a link you provided to one of your cars video's of when it started.. I actually couldn't see that clip but found one called "MILD_r32.wmv" is that your car? that is sweet. from what I can see, it is about 5.5 seconds from 0-100km/h, with a pretty average launch, then just under 14 seconds till it hits 180km/h.. It's definitely a GTST dash/speedo and running at least 1 bar boost.. it's weird.. you can't hear any spooling or bov or squeeling tyres or anything... brilliant.. so who's car? what mods? what power?
  2. I will probably go the stock throttle body location with the 120 degree bend off there to the cooler from the drivers side.. wonder if that will fit.
  3. hahahaha.. thanks.. doughy? what are my options for increased CR without the $$$'s? will the 8.3:1 feel doughier than a stock rb20det? quench.. so does anything need to be done here with 30e bottom and 25de head? tuner.. I guess you an point me in the right direction of this TUNER that can make the stock ecu do all this? turbo - check gaskets - check inlet manifold and injectors and fuel rail - check blah blah blah... no water spray. Sorry about the fingers. I will look forward to Joel and Darrens's reply to my questions about lowering the engine while using the stock plenum and so on. also, how that affected the gearbox and other bits down the line to the rear. Are there any R32 gtst RB30det's in sydney willing to take me for a spin? *nudges sydney kid*
  4. I know every little bit helps but is it necessary for a street car? I know I set my goal high but I will probably putt around the streets with power in between 200-250rwkw and be happy due to the torque compared to my old RB20 or even my current SR20. so can you answer my 19 question SK?
  5. I actually do have a few questions I want to confirm. The Goal is this.. 250rwkw - under 300rwkw. For Daily street use. Possible track outings.. (possible meaning once or twice a year and that's a maybe!!!) mainly just a torquey street car. engine will end up in a 4 door R32 sedan 1.)R32 RB25DE valve springs. If I am not rebuilding the head and simply want to have the seat pressure tested, how is this done? What rating are the standard R32 RB25DE springs and what are the RB26DETT springs rating? (EG, the 25de has 10 lb springs and the 26dett has 15lb springs... ) what are the true ratings? How much are stock 26dett valve springs? 2.)For my Goal, will the stock 30E pistons be fine with the 8.3:1 comp ratio and a turbo which will need 1Bar to produce the power? 3.)Head Gasket - Stock RB30E gasket and O-ring the block good enough for my goal? 4.)exhaust manifold - I'm unsure of what part needs to be removed/grinded from the water gallery in the RB30E block to make the gasket and manifold fit.. does anyone have pics of the bottom end before and after the removal? 5.)Sump - removal of the fins inside the RB20DET sump. how much do you have to remove off them? or is it complete removal? Won't this cause oil surge/starvation problems? 6.)Pistons - Stock RB30E pistons will be used. What was the process called that can be done to pistons to make them not absorb as much heat.. I read it but can't find it again.. I believe there was also a cost per piston.. anyone remember or find it? 7.)Quench - Do I need to worry about this is I am using stock pistons? 8.)CR - Should I bother removing some height off the block to increase the compression ratio? if so, how much off the bottom end and how much off the head? Remember this is a budget/for the street build. 9.)RODS - Prepped rods.. what is Prepping? what was the cost per rod? 10.)CRANK - linishing... again, what is it and what is the cost? 11.)Oil pump - RB25DET oil pump is what I plan to use.. Is second hand ok? Can you tell if they are faulty by visually inspecting them? 12.)ECU - Obviously R32 GTST ecu to run in. But to support my goal, Can the Stock ECU be chipped to handle? I mean to reach that power goal, surely a Z32 or bigger AFM is required along with injectors and FPR. Can you run these with a CHIPPED stock ECU? Sydney kid... what was used for your very first RB30det car that had 475HP? 13.)injectors - Are we certain that the RB25DE uses the same 270cc top feed, high impedance injectors that the RB20DET uses? 14.)Turbo - Due to the torquey nature of this engine, would PLAIN bearing turbo's be a better option as I "ASSUME" (I know.. dangerous thing to do) they would spool up slower than ball bearing turbos and make the car more controllable as it comes on boost? Also, for up to 300rwkw, what internally gated turbo would fall in to a budget of under $2500? AND... fit the stock manifold. 15.)Intercooler - rb26dett intercoolers good enough? 16.)Air box - Stock R32 GTST air box with some form of hi flowing panel filter good enoug? 17.)BOV - surely the stock GTST ones are going to struggle to hold the pressure.. Can GTR stock plumback bovs be adapted and used successfully? when they plumback, are there 2 return lines back to the air intake pipe or 1? 18.)Oil cooler - second hand Jap VR4 ones good enough with new custom lines? I can't remember the measurement but surely they would be better than nothing. And if I was to set up a waterspray system for the intercooler, what's to stop me setting up another jet for the oil cooler? 19.)Those who put this engine in to an R32, there was discussion of brakets being made for the engine to mount it lower. Anypics? Joel or Darren, how did you guys go? still using stock bonnet? still using stock antisway bar under the car? AAAAAAND I'm done.. (EDIT obviously I wasn't cause I just added from number 15 onwards..) thanks
  6. my eyes... so sore..!!! so many pages.. so much good info.. going ot sit down and do the maths on a budget build for the future.. The PDF is great. good work.
  7. umm... not sure.. there was a seperate bag of bits like a small clamp I think... what other bits should there be?
  8. Never used. Purchased from Mercury a while ago. My stock fuel pump died at coffs harbour and I didn't have this with me. so purchased another from REPCO and had it installed. now this is a spare.. $180 ono... this is the 500hp, 255L/h in-tank pump. located in sydney. will post interstate at buyers expense.
  9. i don't think that the 2 are connected.. It sounds like the ticking is Lifter noise.. does it get faster and slower with revs? if so, it is the lifters.. nothing to do with the bov. as for the idle, well you said the guy increased the base idle so that is the reason for the high idle.. plus if it is an atmo bov, then they do weird things to the cars idle most of the time so it could be to do with that that it doesn't idle as it use to.
  10. 1.) I used Engine enamel paint. 2.) I polished these.. taking them off is a BASTARD and putting them back on is even worse. there is a rubber seal in there to seal it against the block and this will be pretty hard and brittle, so you will have to use some of that gasket sealing stuff. bolt tightening is not an issue.. doesn't require a certain torque setting or anything.. Good luck.
  11. your's must have been rebuilt then!!
  12. $4k... Wasn't there talk on these forums where people were able to make a rb30/25 for under $4K installed in the car? wouldn't that be a better option? anyway, a mate used to have a R32 which he installed a RB25 in to. with bosh fuel pump, GTR intercooler and 10 psi and stock ECU... he was making close to 180rwkw. He was still using the R32 GTST gearbox with short shifter and lets just say that he didn't baby the thing.. the stock gearbox will hold out fine for a mildly modified rb25.. I mean there are others on here with over 200rwkw in their R32's with rb20 and using stock gearbox so I'd say just get the engine and ecu and loom for now and get the gearbox once you break the stock one..
  13. I'll keep you in mind Stirlo. I'll obviously have to sell mine first.. Come on people.. $700 for these wheels.. 17x8 and 17x9...
  14. stupid question but are you turning the knob the right way? most bleed valves need to be turned ANTI clockwise to OPEN them to BLEED more air out which lets less air to the wastegate, which makes it open later, which means more boostage for you. if you have done all that was said and turned the knob the right way, then I will guess that the valve is broken.
  15. NEW price $700 - wheels are off the car now..
  16. ok.. from the pic you have there of the stock setup, it should be like this.. top hose plugs in to the pointy end of the arrow, the second hose down plugs in to the back end of the arrow.
  17. it will be cheaper and more reliable to sell it and buy a DET
  18. exactly.. and, not that many places have the equipment to rebuild turbo's with BB cartridges as they don't have the balancing machine.. maybe this place does but it seems to be quiet rare. Most common rebuilt of RB20/25 turbo's to make them T4/3, is to rip the internals out and replace with thrust bearings and T4 compressor and T3 exhaust wheel and machine the openings out as required. So unless the rebuild of this turbo cost you in excess of $2K, I doubt that it is a BB turbo any more. You should also quote what the shop told you about what power capabilities it has and what boost levels is it safe for. saying that it now uses a larger siera wheel doesn't really tell us much.
  19. reset your boost controller. you know how you reset it and it makes you go through the boost settings again.. if you want the instruction's, I have the manual in PDF format I can email you.
  20. you can't buy one you nutter... they were built in 1994, 2 were sold, the others are left outside. they won't run, the body is dead.... they were sold or trying to sell for like double the prie of a standard gtr at the time. the ones left outside, the engine would have rusted like hell... they wouldn't even be good for parts as they've been left in the japan weather for 10 years with only a car cover on them.
  21. *my opinion* power restrictions for sure for P platers. retesting like stated above. loss of license when on your P's should be for at least 2 years. N/A and only 4 cylinders for P platers. No rotaries, turbo's, superchargers, 6 or 8 cylinders unless required for work like a 6 cylinder 4x4. I don't care if young P platers don't like my opinions. during my P's I drove my parents Auto Magna... I didn't care, I was happy to be able to drive myself to places. I'd even go as far as saying only FWD cars for them.
  22. what colour is the fluid in your radiator at the moment?
  23. LMAO... I remember that mod on the galant.. very dodgey.... works though..
