Cruise Control Sales/install - Melbourne
bigkevracer replied to 180Shauny's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Nice one. On my to do list is to fix the cruise control. Wires to the buttons seem to have popped out and now I can't seem to get it to turn on... Weird... -
I picked the braces up last night. Mike is picking his up tomorrow and I'm helping Igor fit his Sunday. Got mine in tonight. Doesn't look like it's going to do a lot where it is, and there is not a lot of clearance between the brace and the Whiteline sway bar. But I haven't driven on it yet, so lets see how it goes!

Did you ever get your audio controls setup and working Leon? -
Thanks Alex. This kind of thing I take it? http://www.sinergymotorsports.com.au/displayimage.php?album=1251&pos=2

I was going to switch to twin electric fans, but according to Mishi the 350z shroud doesn't fit on the G35 radiator. That was the original plan.
-
Slightly unrelated, but what fan shroud are people using with the Mishimoto rads? They don't have a shroud to fit the G35 radiators, but they do for the cheaper 350Z radiators. The dimensions of the 350Z radiator also look almost identical...

Plug and play is rarely that simple for the m35. Can't remember the exact details on Leon's, check m35stagea.info -

Nice one. How come you didn't tackle it on your own Dale? -
Looks like the Adelaide bars were delivered today. Are people able to wait for the weekend?

No worries mate. It's not really until you pull it all off you realise how shit the stock setup is. I'm happy for people to come and check out my car before they make a decision if we can find a mutually convenient time. Just send me a PM. -

Head into the Stagea for sale section. There are a few guys wrecking Stags at the moment, might have one for you. -
Sold. Will do. What's the optimum operating temp for these things? Dale, let me know how you go with the fan controller. Sounds like a good idea.

Guys, the real issue here is the stock dump pipe is a complete piece of shit. It is restrictive and has a cat built in. Then it goes into a midpipe which usually has a compliance cat built into it, and a huge big box of baffles. It's big, heavy and restrictive. Replacing the dump pipe with something which will flow better and doesn't contain a cat should be your highest priority. Replacing the midpipe and baffles with a midpipe featuring a high flow cat should be next on your list. Luke, if you're really worried about sound, you have a few different options. Plenty of guys have just replaced the dump and mid pipe and seen good gains. Depends on what midpipe back system the car has come over with. You can also replace the dump and mid pipe locally, and source a Jap exhaust. There are plenty with low db ratings. Do a search and you'll find a few. I think one of the Kakimoto's was the go? Since you're in Adelaide, I'd go to AM Performance. Andrew did mine and he can make it as loud or as quiet as you want. I know I had to take mine back after he finished it, to get it made quieter. Mine was the first M35 he'd done, and he developed everything from my car. He makes all his own mufflers from scratch so he can build them as big or as small as you want. My system suits me, but I'm sure others would want a bit bigger muffler. When we dynoed it, it made 166kW at the wheels on a stock car bar a turbo back exhaust and a Blitz panel filter. But it drove completely different - made boost much earlier, better economy and a lot more power. Since both of you guys are in Adelaide, I highly recommend you ring Andrew at AM Performance (www.amperformance.com.au). He's local, has worked on a few of these cars now, and is able to make something to your specific noise requirements. He'll also install for you. For an idea of pricing, try this thread: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/387088-e-o-i-am-performance-m35-exhaust-group-buy/page__p__6192527__hl__am%20performance__fromsearch__1#entry6192527 (Group buy didn't go ahead but happy to revisit) For pics: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/387032-eoi-am-performance-m35-exhaust-group-buy/ If you're in Victoria, PM Scotty nm35. Same deal, although you'll probably leave with a bigger turbo and a lot more than you signed up for You DON'T want to get something custom made somewhere that hasn't worked on these. Who knows how loud it'll be or what kind of dump pipe they're going to throw in. -

No one has dyno proven Rex's dump pipe to the best of my knowledge, that's what I meant. Lets not get into a bellmouth vs split argument again. -

Yeah they do. Mike (Impul535W) has a set of the Varrstoen TE37 replicas in black, and they look pretty awesome. Not sure if he posted pics up here, but if not wait till he sees this. -

It's the shipping price that's the killer Scott, calculated cubically I think. I've had a quote of $100+ to ship one over. By the time you add shipping to it, you're getting to the point where it may be cheaper locally. Not sure how expensive they'd be to ship around domestically for a group buy though. Maybe we should make another thread on this instead of clogging this one up? -

Thanks Alex. Although not sure how we could verify G35x is the same? -
Interesting. I always thought thermo fans were supposed to be more effort than they're worth for road cars. Sounds like it might be the way to go. Thanks guys!

I spoke to Turbosmart about the flutter after I put in the dual port BOV, and they told me that there is a lot more of it when you run a pod for some reason. Apparently there is no alternative spring I can run to avoid it because I'm already running the stiffest spring wound on as hard as possible. The effects of it all seems to be conjecture, I haven't seen any proof one way or the other. It could shorten the life of the turbo, but then again the stock turbo is a ticking time bomb anyway.

I'll make some local calls and see how we go. They do a G35x version, so I'm guessing our undertray isn't the same as 350Z. I'm wondering how different the shape of ours would be compared with the G35 too... -

Lol. Completely the other direction. Davoren Park. If you feel like taking a drive down to the hood, let me know and I'll show you the exhaust setup and take you for a ride. -

AM Performance did mine. Andrew's work is awesome, and his exhaust and dump pipe are proven now. I would imagine Exhaust Technologies would be more expensive, and I'd be curious as to what dump pipe they'd be planning to use. It WILL make a difference. I think there are only two proven dump pipes, the AM Performance one (SA) and Scotty's dump pipe (Vic). I could be wrong, but that rarely happens. Where abouts in Adelaide are you?
