  1. Have had plenty of flexis f**k up and fail on high-power FWDs in the past .. they leak and stuff all too easily ... (tho in that situation for me often seems to have pointed to f**ked engine mount that's caused it) .. Easy fix for exhaust place tho to weld a new one in.

Heh .. it always stuns me how many of my geek friends are into modified / japanese cars .. ... I'm just a cranky old netadmin/sysadmin/programmer type, getting a bit old for the whole LAN thing .. lol

It's a shame it's only MSN not IRC (or some other group chat dealie.. )
  7. D'oh! You're right! I got it the wrong way around .. *confused* .. .. so the speedo would *show* 156kph, but you're doing 167kph with that sorta circumference change - Well there goes that theory on what's going on!
  8. Ahhh that'd do it .. 245/45/18 is *huge*. I'd highly doubt that's a legal fitment, speedo would be nearly 7% out... AFAIK you're only allowed a 10mm diameter increase without it getting engineered (and requirement to get speedo recalibrated). 225/45/17 = 634.3mm diameter (1992.7mm circ) vs 245/45/18 = 677.7mm diameter (2129.1mm circ) ... Which would explain why the speedo is reading 167kph ... You're actually only doing 156kph (107% of 156kph = 167kph)
  9. Bleh ... this week blows. Bring on the weekend already.
  10. Geez .. That would have been a .. dear .. repair ... ... (couldn't resist)
  11. .... .... ... nah, too easy.
  12. D'oh, okay I got my cars mixed up - I was thinking my N14SSS for 7500rpm, not R34 - which is 7000rpm redline .. guessing r33 is the same? 1st 63kph 2nd 105kph 3rd 156kph 4th 203kph 5th 270kph
  13. I'm a bit stunned by N/A owners only getting 320km out of a 'tank' (whatever that is in L - i'd be curious to hear how many they're putting in). I keep an eye on my trip meter and reset it everytime I fill the car to the brim. I almost always go to the same petrol station & bowser. I generally get about 330-350km out of 50L (when the light first comes on in the 65L R34 tank) - and that's driving like nut hammering it at every set of lights - with a turbo. On the highway it'll get about 550km (or more) out of 50L (it's been different between runs, depends on the highway, how many hills, how bad traffic is). I don't consider the fuel economy too bad to be honest...
  14. Weird, I wouldn't have said it made those sorts of speeds either, but I plugged the gearbox ratio / diff ratio information in, and it seems to come up similar. From a quick poke around on the site, R34/R33 manual gearbox have the same diff ratio of: 4.11 (apparently auto r34 is more like 4.0, and 4.363 on r33). And using the gearbox ratios as above (which seem to match up with what I've read through google/sau-search, of 1 - 3.214, 2 - 1.925, 3 - 1.302, 4 - 1.000, 5 - 0.752). And taking into account R34 wheel size of 225/45/R17, and 7500RPM... R33/R34 Manual 1st 67kph 2nd 113kph 3rd 167kph 4th 218kph 5th 290kph I would have said the figures were slightly lower than that from my own personal experience, but it can't imagine it would be too far off. 15. Can you still install this sort of piping with the factory airbox?
  16. I wonder if I'm the only one stunned at the idea of a 21 year-old having access to spending $180K+ (if I've read that right) for just a car ...
  17. Dunno 'bout that.... When I was searching for a car it, I was looking for a four-door turbo import - came down to two cars for me - JZX100 (single turbo VVTi) vs R34 GT-T Sedan - and they had to be factory delivered manual (can't stand auto). I ended up taking both for a test-drove - they felt about the same power and handling-wise - but difficult to test on a test drive with a salesman next to you. The more 'luxury' interior of the Chaser was okay, but felt very boring - in stark contrast with the sportier Nissan R34 interior. Next came up the look at the price, the Chaser was about $2K more expensive at the time for similar km, this along with the R34 seeming to have a better support in both repair/replacement parts, servicing and aftermarket - it became a fairly easy choice to go R34 for me. Mind you, if I could have a second turbo import in my car, it would be a chaser.... Ahh if I only I had the money to get rid of the N14 SSS daily and get that instead .. still love the ol' chaser. I love how understated it can be.
  18. Nothing like near the ECU wiring on my R34 ...
  19. From what I understand, R34's don't have a dimmer switch - though I believe some compliance places do fit them during compliance

  21. PM sent Having a poke around, seems to be a real pain trying to find an affordable FMIC that doesn't require modification to the reo (which is apparently defectable and could result in insurance claims being voided ). I've heard mixed reports from people on the JustJap stealth ones (some say they got it to fit, most others say it requires modification - including justjap). I've seen some posts say that particular Greddy FMICs fit without reo mods, and same for the Blitz FMIC kits, and AVO FMIC kits - but I always seem to find other posts contradicting it. Either way, it's enough to drive you nuts in an attempt to stay within the law.
  22. Weird, I hit a fox pretty hard at 80-90kph back about 18 months ago .. barely did any damage at all - factory bumper though, so I guess not likely to shatter or anything like fibreglass. I just needed to replacement bumper.... Mostly I was just annoyed that if I had of been doing the speed limit, or on a straight bit of road I probably would have missed it. Unfortunately it was 1am in the morning driving back to Adelaide, I was taking it easy and on a sweeping bend so I didn't really feel safe swerve to avoid the fox when I caught it in my headlights before it hit. Anyways - good luck with the repairs Cara. Love to see pics of the completed new front bar

  24. As a subscriber of Zoom / HPI for 3-4 years now, and a reader for many many more - I always found it encouraging that I'd find Martin Donnon, Munro, PJ, etc all on this forum. I also honestly don't think Martin is trying to sell his services on here, nor deserved of demands to pay for advertising.
