Personally I hope the opposition end up blocking the government for this stimulus package ... everyone i've talked to has told me the shit they've gonna blow it on - it's already spent in their mind. crazy shit.

Two things holding me off, really: 1) concerned about the quality of the product; So many different stories going around about 'reborn leather' - is this the 'leatherette' that has been described previously - or is it another product entirely and he's changed products? I didn't see any real replies to my earlier posts referencing: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Wh...75#entry4362375 http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Wh...64#entry4366464 2) The pattern he has won't allow for the arm rest in the rear of my R34 sedan. I love my lil' arm rest

I just finished installing my CarPC v3 (my third version of a CarPC over the years..) this weekend. This latest build consists of: * Xenarc MDT-X7000 in-dash motorized 7" vga touchscreen * Intel D945GCLF2 Mini-ITX ATOM 330 (dual-core) motherboard/CPU combo * 2GB DDR Memory * Seagate Momentus 320GB 7200rpm 2.5" disk * M2-ATX Automotive power-supply * Automotive mini-itx case (very similar to voom case, but I dont think its a genuine voom) * USB Wifi (Asus WL-167 802.11B/G) * USB GPS (BU-353) * USB 3G/HSPDA This latest version boots a whole lot faster and seems a whole lot better than my v2 (Intel P-M 1.2ghz/1gb/30gb 4200rpm disk + 120gb 2.5" usb ext in the same case) and I'm pretty happy with it so far. I'm using centrafuse for front-end, which I have found very reliable over the years. I would recommend using the mp3car site as a reference for carpc information, as it can be invaluable for ironing out those weird bugs that you'll inevitably run into.

Fuel/ignition Ecu Maps Difference Between R32 R33 R34
jrm replied to clip14's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldnt an R34 RB25DE be the NEO model? From what I understand this incorporates a different head design, and infinitely variable cam timing - an R32 ECU would have no idea how to deal with that, so you'd ultimately end up with a loss of power from at least the lack of VCT? To that end, I imagine you'd really need an R34 ECU to get the best benefit from this engine, as I imagine they'd have changed the fuel/ign maps for the different head design, and to make use of the VCT. No idea how accurate any of that is, but it's based off what I've read and wikipedia seems to confirm some of it. -
I have just a regular OEM steering wheel; The funny thing is the HICAS was fine for at least 12-15 months after I bought the car and then just went a bit funny and then got progressively worse (though I didn't realise what it was at the time). What alerted me to the problem in the end was on a drive to Melbourne and found that as soon as I got above about 70kph (not something I generally do on the street in daily driving) that the steering wheel slowly 'rolled over' one direction and then when I hit about 110 it would 'snap back' (as the HICAS disengaged) - quite scary at those speeds! .. I had an inkling what it might be, quickly pulled over and ripped the HICAS fuse out and did the rest of the trip without it. On return, I took it to Nissan Main North and they diagnosed the steering wheel sensor out of alignment through their CONSULT, but couldn't offer to fix it as they didnt have the tools to do an alignment (or so they claimed). Without the HICAS software to get me a clear 0 degrees on the steering wheel sensor, I can't really take it to a wheel alignment shop to get it resolved - whiich is where my dilemma is right now! From what I've read on these forums a 'Rory Thompson' can get HICAS lock bars engineered for a reasonable price, but I can't help but wonder if it wouldn't be better to just leave it as Nissan sold it. Apologies for thread hijacking! - J

This looks pretty similar to one of the tools I've tried out, and it wasn't able to do anything with my HICAS (R34 GT-T). I have had Main North Nissan diagnose the problem I'm having (HICAS steering angle all out of whack - boy that can be fun to drive with!) but unfortunately they claimed not to have the appropriate tools to do all of the required work to fix it (apparently their technical told me the 'fix' for my HICAS woes would require removal of steering wheel, re-alignment of steering wheel in-line with HICAS saying 0deg steering angle, and then ripping open the steering rack, straightening this, and then doing a complete alignment, etc).

Went out at 1:30pm or so to fill the car with fuel, walk out of air-conditioned office and the heat hit me in the face like a 2x4, felt like my eyes were contracting or something. Wander through the carpark out to the car, turn it to on and the gauges flick up half way already - about 70C on both the oil and water gauges - car hadn't been started in 4 hours.... it's .. kinda warm out there ..
-
Except this will only really give error codes (mine doesn't have any), and of course there's no way to get the real-time diagnostic HICAS information - which is what I need; ie: output information about steering angles, etc I've been in conversations with Eric at DTA Motorsport regarding ConZult and the compatibility of their HICAS diagnostics with the R34; He did indicate that he's tested this on R32/R33 with success, but they haven't had an opportunity to test with the R34. He sent me a test build with limited functionality to test this functionality, but it didn't work for me (though he's unsure if that's a bug in the code or a problem with talking to R34 ECUs). The ConZult software looks exceedingly expensive, but if it works 100% - it's definitely something I'd consider. Jenna

However, keep in mind, none of the free software can do the 'cool' stuff like HICAS diagnostics. There is a local Adelaide mob (PLMS) who offer CONSULT cables (both Serial and USB) for sale: http://www.plmsdevelopments.com/consult_if.shtml
-
I'm trying to track down anyone that can do proper HICAS diagnostics (ie: the real-time stuff with steering angles, etc that Nissan can do with CONSULT) too. I've been in some discussions with the people from DTA Motorsport (Who write the ConZult software) over whether their software can do it, but initial checks seem to indicate that it won't work on my R34.

Air Conditioner Fan In Dash Stopped Working ?
jrm replied to Guilt-Toy's topic in General Maintenance
Geez, aren't you gonna have to sign up to be a trader to sell your services like this? *runs* -
I'm guessing the 2871 would be a more appropriate sizing for 220-250kw and ultimately quicker spooling and response?
-
What sort of time-frame are we looking at for this?
-
Any word on using a ball-bearing core instead of the sleeve bearings you've mentioned earlier - and the extra costing around this? (If you're still allowed to talk about costings in public...)

So has he changed his story about leatherette and now calling it 'reborn leather' or has he actually changed the type of material he's using? http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...t&p=4362375 Seems to suggest they're not the same product at all, yet: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...t&p=4366464 basically says that they are... and refer to a guy called "Max" which is name of the guy in the first post ...
-
Now we can go back to .. YaY BABIES!
-
After talking to the guy via eBay looks as though R34 Sedan and R34 coupe seats are identical but if I was to put these on I'd lose my middle arm-rest in my sedan .. which would suck badly ... not too sure I wanna go down that path.

When I bought my car in Sydney, I considered getting it shipped back but I eventually drove it back from Sydney through Melbourne - I really enjoyed every minute of it (even with the factory nissan stereo with FM converter and only a tape player ...) I also found it a really good opportunity to get familiar with the car and how it drove

As someone who moved here from interstate, it constantly surprises me how tiny Adelaide is - especially with stuff like this. You find out that your neighbour knows a guy you work with, or that some guy you met on the internet knows a friend of yours, or ... the list goes on .. It boggles the mind
-
Okay, now that's kinda freakin' me out .. ... this is maybe 2 hours since I brought up doing a groupbuy at my work for baconsalt ... (... I'm guessing this is due to Adelaide being a tiny place ... )

This might be slightly off-topic, but I'm curious if anyone knows how nistune compares to one of its rivals - bikirom. It seems to have additional options like boost control (with a solenoid addon) and generally seems like a pretty mature product. How do nistune and bikirom compare generally, how do they compare for usability and tunability - are they tuned in the same way? Right now i'm trying to toss up between these two options, and I can't find any real direct comparisons. Another frustration is it seems as though the major workshops are doing nistune remaps/tuning, but nobody specifically mentions bikirom, so I'm trying to get some ideas if someone who can do one can do the other ... Any help / thoughts / ideas are appreciated

I'm very interested here, with an R34 sedan but I'm have a few questions. Are these available for R34 sedans? (I'm guessing the will be slightly different than the coupes and may not fit the same?) I'm also really curious how it looks on the edges of the seat where the material ends to make sure its comparable to factory quality and isnt going to look like something's been changed. Better quality/high-res photos from different angles showing the quality of the workmanship would be cool.

Spotted a maroon r32 as I started my run into the gorge about 8:45pm tonight .. gave a quick wave, but as we were going around a corner in opposite directions, I'm sure they would have missed it .. haha ... mostly pretty quiet tonight when i was out ..
