its an 1994 V-Spec II, and supplier (friend of a friend) reported it drove well and made no sounds in Japan -im still waiting on any speeding fines the loss of power mentioned the other night was me having the AC/Demisters on =P (/me slaps himself, soz) but it does seem slightly down on power compared to when i first got it (not a huge amount tho) also, the cabin is like a toaster, heats up super quick without any assistance from AAC. is this normal for GTRs? other GTR owners able to confirm this? Thanks

Just some more information if anyone would be kind eough to help me out... pleaes?!?! took a recording of the sound, the change in volume is me moving the mic about, so dont factor that in... any help would be appreciated!! so you mean you dont want them to replace your broken stuff in the first 7 days after you bought it?? unless your just really bad at computers (not meaning you personally madaz), unless the product is DOA, its not going to develop a fault in the first 7 days of its lifetime. Hence the only reason you would be replacing a component in the first 7 days is that it was DOA... sure you might be able to blow something up, but that would be physical damage and not covered under warranty. just to stres the fact again, ANYTHING refering to replacement of refund in the first 7 days of you owning it is refering to the product being DOA, wether or not it states the actual letters or words, it is the legal time that you can return a faulty component back to the supplier for replacement/refund. so yes, replace/refund in the first 7 days is the DOA period, it means DOA, that is the LEGAL definition of DOA... how can it not mean doa?!?!?!?! i 100% agree with you there Cubes... the warranty situation is so super dodge in the computer industry, which is the whole purpose of me raising these issues (and its not just MSY, they just seems to be the flavour of the month). i dare say there are no retail computer stores that are authorised resellers of WD, and if you want to know if one is, probably best to ask them... and like i mentioned in my previous post, the warranty you get is a contract between you and the store you bought it from... there are no other legal parties involved with it, so the manufacturer doesnt have to warranty it if they dont want to!! starting to understand where im coming from now!?!? =) im just offering advice for fellow skyline owners to whatch out regarding warrantys!!! thats all!!!! the more you dig the worse it gets!! it all comes down to australian law: 1) you cant be sold a faulty product 2) to ensure this all products have a 7 day warranty regardless 3) what is written on your invoice is a legal contract between you and the supplier/retailer which is what actual warranty you get so yes, it has happened once to us that we wrote a product had a 3 year warranty on it but it only had a 1 yr warranty... it faild 2 years after purchase, once we found out, we rang consumer affairs to find out what best to do, and ended up giving them a brand new product of equal or better value, all because we had 3 years on the invoice... and on a side note, one of my friends purchased a WD HDD in singapore while on holidays, a long time after his holidays finished and he was well and truly back in aus, the HDD died, for a fee (was something like $30 or there abouts) we were able to process the warranty for him (thanks in part to our close working relationship with one of the WD suppliers) and get him a replacment HDD. so it is possible, to warranty a drive from a retailer that has gone out of business, knowing who to talk to always helps... its just a bit tricky, worst case secnario WD aus should be able to point you in the right direction. btw, they can say anything to you over the phone, but its whats written on the invoice that counts!!!!!! /me goes off to fix the broken recond he must sound like... soz fellas, strangly enough its an issue close to my heart (mebe i've been working in the computer industry for too long)

Australian consumer law states that: 1) you cannot sell a new peice of equiptment that is deemd to be faulty 2) all equiptment has to have a 7 day warranty, anything longer than that is optional when you get your invoice that is a legal contract between you and the parties that provided you with the equiptment. if the invoice states that it has a 1 year return to manufacture warranty, that is what you get, regardless, consumer affairs cant do sh*t if that is written on the invoice. and yes, it is illigal to charge you for DOA replacments, but that is what the pricelist states... Condition: All Parts-1 year return to manufacturer warranty (From Date of invoice). Replace/Upgrade/Refund (15%re-stocking fee apply & Credit Card Surcharge non-Refundable) within 7 Days from Date of Invoice i think you will find that the 2nd part of the conditions is what is referd to as DOA, most people in the industry know that the DOA period is the first 7 Days after you purchase a product, they are one and the same. this ia all they have to offer under consumer law is a 7 day warranty, that states quite clearly that they carge you for if you wish to use it, why else would you want something replaced in the first 7 days?? "this is working can i get it replaced with another one?" im not the one making the rules, im not the one breaking them... all im doing is pointing out that if you get in a bind with MSY, and that is written on your invoice, you are legaly screwed, there is nothing you can do but ship it off to tiwan or if its in the first 7 days, pay the fee... thats the terms you have agreed to by purchasing from them, and it is within their rights providing they offer the minimum warranty on a product to do anything they like re warranty after that initial 7 day period is over.... im not going to stop anyone from buying from there, and its totally up to you if you choose to.. all im saying is whatch out if you do and make sure you cover your butt!! there wont be anyone in australia to help you out if things get really pear shaped a year or 2 down the track!

systems powering down under high load is generally a PSU issue... but sometimes computers dont like car trips, so things could be loose inside... if you know what your doing TURN OFF THE COMPUTER and just make sure everything is seated properly... otherwise, get someone to take a look at it

well, see attached piccy of highlited msy conditions (circled in red).. i mentioned it elsewhere, but as if a bunch of skyline owners care about grey market imports yes, the antec problem is antec wide... its just the offical distributors arent selling the solution series anymore. as far as i know, the tamering was only with the solution series, the rest of the range is to spec yeah, antecs solution was to stop selling the selling the solution series PSU and replace them with the "earth watts" which are a VER nice PSU i might add =P the GA-965P-DS3 series is probably still floating around at the retail level, just as you say, but has been discontinued/replaced at the wholesale level -------- as far as segates expected life time is concered, its just the average figure of all the waryantys were dealing with... first hand, hands on information from working in the industry have a read of the fine print on the segate "5 year" waranty.. its quite supprising: years 1-2: replacment drive year 3: referbished drive (ie broken drive the have opened up and "fixed") year 4: 15% refund (last time i checked) year 5: 10% refund (last time i checked) had a link to the page on segates site that states this, but it has ben moved, so the link is broken.... once again, it comes down to personal preferance, and your own experianes witht he brand... if you install a HDD properly then there should be no problems with it, despite the brand all HDD waranties keep on changing, i remember at one point everyone was only doing a 1 yr warantee on them.... that was about 6 or 7 years ago now.. but still companies are silly to open themselfs up to issues where components fail 2/3rd of the way threw their waranty period... but thats the sad part about the industry, that LOTS of them do by putting cheaper components in/on their parts... and lots of users just dont realise what they are actually buying =( this is the main reason i chirped up about this because i hate the lack of information that is avalible to the genral product about some of these issues
-
so your not getting the restarting now you have updated drivers? did you do motherboard drivers as well?
-
reformat probably wont do much for you... but more system specs might give me a better idea
-
need more system specifications to give you a good answer, but my guess would be powersupply
-
have you actually read MSYs warranty conditions??? 1) if the product is "DOA" they charge you a 15% restocking fee, and if you want a refund, the dont refund and CC surcharges 2) all products, regardless of their real warrantys, have a 1 year return to manufacturer (ie. tiwan) warranty just a personal observation that the current segate HDDs have about a 2 year expected life time, where as WD HDDs if corectly mounted/installed will go the distance... this is has a little bit to do with the amount of voltage that segate pump threw their heads to get the marginaly faster seak time also if people are concerned about failures, the solution seriers PSU in the antec case (although being 10000000 times better than the one in Madaz's quote) will fail! the official Antec supplier to Australia (note, msy grey market import their parts) have told everyone who buys from them to stop selling any solution series PSU because they WILL fail within about 2 years. The contractor that Antec chose to make the PSUs for them deliberatly used under-spec parts without telling Antec and hence the almost 100% failure rate on them. another example of grey importing is the fact that that gigabyte motherboard (i presume they are quoting the 965P-DS3P) has been discontinued, any official gigabyte distributor in australia has dropped it for the P35-DS3 range Im not having a go at cubes and madaz here, what they are doing is fantastic... people that buy their computers from A&R, IT Wearhouse, Radio Rentals, Harvey Norman and the likes just shouldn't... and the world of custom computers is a tricky place to negotiate. So big ups to those guys for at least showing you the path, and in all fairness, it is the dollar that drives most consumers... but sometimes you have to wonder what it is your paying for (or not in the case of msy). PS. sorry if i offended you guys (Cubes and Madaz) wasent my intention at all

Got to have a bit more of a chance to look at the car today attached is a picture of where the sound is coming from, its a distinct ticking that will increase/decrease with the revs of the engine, present from cold as well, gets louder as the engine gets warmer. May have lost a fraction more power compared to yesterday... somehow =( seems to be requiring more revs to keep crusing along at 60 in 5th than it was yesterday after searching the boards last night i thought it could just be an oil problem, but now im not sure any advice on what to check from here or if this is signs of a particular failure would be appreciated thanks

Hey, I've just recently imported an R32 GTR from Japan that came with a Power FC. I am yet to take it to a local mechanic for a service/tune/what did i actually buy... but i have noticed that it has a knock/tap when at operating temperature so: i turn it on, let it idle, sounds "fine" -however nowear near as nice as some of the other 32's i've heard getting around. drove into town to drop something off (aprox 25min drive) no boosting threw light Adelaide traffic occasional set of lights generally upshifting at 3,00rpm from 1st, 2nd then 3rd to 60kmph and then into 5th to cruise... so really light usage. Upon arrival i can hear a knocking/tapping, jump out and pop the bonnet and it's what i would consider to be distubingly loud. The source of the sound seems to be the engine/rocker area. appart from the Power FC, exhaust and suspension the car is stock, there has also been a CAT fitted for compliance, but unsure what (if anything) it replaced. I fill it with BP Ultimate (98 octaine) and it still has the compliance oil... some valvoline semi-sysnth 10-60 (soon to be replaced). true kms of the car are unknowen but we guess somewhere between 70-100k (have logs up to 58,000 + current reading is 9,000) i am wondering, could this just be the Japanes tune? or is it something more serious? perhaps just timing belt? any help would be appreciated, and i know i should take it to a local/trusted mechanic, but i'd like a) learn as much as i can and b) know what im dealing with before throwing money at problems just on a side note, the cabin heats up something feirce, is this a usual occurance? Thanks for your time in advance!! =) Edit: should have mentioned that it "feels" a bit down on power compared to when i first drove it, but that might just be me getting used to it =P and i'll also try to get a better location of the sound next time im driving it and it happens
-
mebe a good time to mention im a major sponsor of valhalla?.... /me points at sig =P i also have 4 large tressels lying around in my back shed, all in good condition, all sor sale?!?! =D would be keen on a LAN, but its sooooooo cold =( shed = heated?? also, probably dont want to advertise piracy on the net. my 2c

there are also programs that you can get that'll constantly flash threw the cycle of colours (black, white, green, blue and red) for hours or days on end, this can also "free up" dead pixels =) coolies, i just hate it when people get ripped off, and it seems like you got a decent price on the monitor as well, so its all good =) if you wnat to know where i work, it almost opposite the crazy horse
-
Acer have a 7 day (or 14 day, forgot which one) 0 dead pixel policy, if you bought it from somewhere that doesnt honnor that, meh, can only blame yourself almost all brand have some form of 0 dead pixel policy, just most people dont bother to check/dont know how to check properly
-
hell no, sif take it somewhere to get it check out... thats stupid and a waste of money (if you knew anything about me or where i work AT ALL, you would know that we dont advise people to waste money/do stupid things). i ment did the store that sold it to him test it for him/infront of him? (Acer have about a 90% failure rate with dead pixels). probably better of using a specific program for dead pixel testing (like nokia monitor test) rather than paint. soz, bit agro, having a bad day =(
-
had it checked for dead pixels? (as you should do that ASAP)
-
got a reply from Racing Brakes today... "In that pad we do not do RB74, I would be putting endless vn9500 in your car" i'll be googling the DS2500s shortly, but anyone know a good place to get them? cheers

-
is that your car ideling i hear serty-1?? =P and were you tooting as i pulled into my drive way (was har to hear over my brakes =P)
-
car is sooooooo awsome!!! i love being a skyline owner!!!!! such awsome looking cars, and get a massive smile everytime i drive the thing (nothing quite like the feeling of boost, amiright?? =P) the stairs you get when you pull into petrol stations... they are priceless =) but it needs a bit of work i thinks, brakes need changing, and there is a bit of fixing up needed on the body work. want to get that fixed up first. also want to do a complete fluid change over, i think its making a slight tapping sound? and dad thinks there is a sound like a wheel bearing playing up as well... oh and suspension, its just BAD!! super hard, even brand new aussie roads are like giant pot holes for me... will get SK to hook me up at some point in time lots to do, lots of money needed, but soooo worth it!!! havent got the hang of driving it yet, partly because its manual, partly because its 1000000000000000000000000000000000 times better than my 91 camry =P (and i dont drive it all that often)
-
yeah, fixxed now.. opps =P gimme a break, f1 is on =P
