Just need to clarify we are talking about the same thing. I'm talking about type/class 3D. In the Supp Reg's you have to nominate a Type and Class. Type 1 - stock road registered cars Type 2 - slightly modified road registered cars Type 3 - More modified than type 2 road cars and unregistered cars including 3J improved production Type 4 - Sports Sedans and other cars exceeding type 3 mods. Type SV - Kit cars, imports other road registered cars, clubmans etc.. Then you have to choose class A 0-1600cc B 1601-2000cc C 2001-3000cc D 3001cc & above E Clubmans & replicas running on slicks I was a little niave log booking my car as a 3J improved production without a restrictor. From the above types/classes, a car log booked as 3D (sports sedan) comes under type 4.

Yeah, thought about turning the boost down, but would also have to remove any induction mods like bigger intercooler, piping, pod filter etc.. Basically would need to return the engine to stock standard. If I could get away with only having to turn the boost down and removing the boost controller I might consider it and see how much slower I go....... But I need all the help I can get! 147kw's at the flywheel would make me look really slow!!!! hahahaha!!

Merli, I was looking at the same thing with the NSW Supersprint Championships. I thought 1:20 around Oran GP was achievable in my SR20DET powered Silvia and I would have a good chance at fighting for a class win. However, after I entered my car into 3D, the organisers contacted every turbo car in the series and said "cars running more than the standard boost pressure are required to run a restrictor." As my car runs 13-14psi, I had the choice of either fitting a restrictor or going to another class - which was 4D = Sports sedans with full aero running slicks!!!! I'll cut and paste the points raised in the letter sent to us turbo entrants. Type 3 is a little more complicated and is based on CAMS Group 3J Improved Production Car rules. A restrictor must be fiited to the turbo UNLESS the turbo comes in the car as standard AND if any one or more of the following five (5) matters does occur: - 1. Any component associated with the induction system is modified. 2. There are additional components fitted to the induction system. 3. The turbo boost and/or the compression ratio is increased. 4. The engine capacity of the car is increased by more than 2%. 5. A boost monitor has not been fitted.

I was car # 551 - S13 Silvia, I fixed the issue with my Championship entry as my form got misplaced at CAMS so I'll be included in the points!! I'd like to say it was my first proper go at Oran Park GP (I entered last year but only did warm up lap before slave cylinder failed!!) and I totally loved it!!!! I think it is the best circuit in NSW, but I haven't driven Bathurst yet. I've driven Wakefield, Eastern Creek and Oran Park South Circuit a few times, but I think the GP circuit is totally awesome... awesome to the max!!!! Does anyone else think it's a really awesome and challenging track? I found the only place my car wasn't sliding was down the straight! The tunnel, the bridge and the roller coaster corners! Plus that turn 1 kink. Wow! Ultimate hero corner. Nearly as frightening as turn 1 at Eastern Creek. Do people back off or brake for it????

Can Race/rally Import Be Used In Targa?
nismoman replied to RU34ME's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Wish the RTA would come to a decision like issuing special rally only registration plates. It's been a long time now. Living in NSW can be frustrating! At Rally Tas, alot of competitors had all these hot EVO's and WRX's and I ask them how they afford it, and they reply - jap import. Then I find out they are from SA, VIC or QLD. and rally rego is no problem. In the near future I'd like to use an import for rally/track use only so I hope they clear it up soon. Best of luck Duncan, I hope you are successful. -
Driftcat And Uras Aus New Drifter.

Awesome!!!! Plenty of tyre frying ability right there. -
Last time I was at Wakefield they wanted to ban me for getting sideways!!! My avatar is a photo from my last visit and the pimply teenager with the flag on pitlane had a go at me saying drifting isn't allowed, blah blah blah.. and if I didn't stop I'd be asked to leave. BAH!!!!! The thing was it wasn't drifting anyway, I wouldn't call a little power oversteer on the exit of corners drifting. Pffttt! Damn Wakefield... all the photo's and adverts for the place show a red 200SX getting hell sideways. They advertise and promote the shot, but when you get down there to do the same, they wanna kick you out?????? Did anyone get told off for getting sideways like I did??? p.s. sorry for long rant!

Opinions Welcomed On Track Car
nismoman replied to garage5ran's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Out of the cars you mentioned, I think the R32 is the best value and package 'out of the box'. My reasons for this are: 1. Nice light chassis (not as light as S13 but is pretty close) 2. Better equipped than S13 (brakes, 5 stud and RB motor!) 3. Cheap (I've seen R32 GTS-t complied for $8k) 4. RB20 is strong and loves to rev. 5. Turbo is more accessable and easier to work on than S13/180SX But in the end, I reckon you can't go wrong with any of them. All of those cars are great, but I have a soft spot for the R32. Perhaps try and drive one of each to get an idea which feels better for you. Good luck and have fun. -
To answer the question about why they call it the V35 and not the R35? I read that the chassis number is determined by the engine designation. The R31/32/33/34 series platforms had RB motors and now the new skylines have VG series motors and are called V35. 35 because it comes after 34 and V because of the VG series motor. I'm not sure it's always been that way for skylines, but apparently that's what I read in a mag about the more recent skylines. (R31 onwards) If anyone else can shed some light, I'd like to be 100% sure.

S15's please give some opinions
nismoman replied to twoquik's topic in General Automotive Discussion
But my S14a doesn't hit max boost and max power until 4th gear, so it would read less if I dyno ran it in 3rd gear. Plus I know that 3rd gear in my brother's R32 is closer to my 2nd gear. The gearing is really low in R32's. -

Well done, great pics. I'm jealous too! I was stoked to see Michael Shumacher drive past me at the Melbourne GP in 2004 on a scooter! Even though he's not my favourite he is one of the sports most famous drivers, so it was a real buzz. But meeting and chatting with him along with pics for memories is outstanding!!! -
Can Race/rally Import Be Used In Targa?
nismoman replied to RU34ME's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Please be aware that in NSW the RTA have put a temporary stop to all Rally rego applications for rally use only cars. I last spoke to CAMS in December and they advised the RTA is coming down hard on imports. Other states seem ok, but in NSW you will find it very difficult to obtain rally rego, so just be sure to check it out fully if you live in NSW before taking the plunge. -
S15's please give some opinions
nismoman replied to twoquik's topic in General Automotive Discussion
That's the car. Darren Mew's S14a. It's devistatingly quick!!! I only wish my S14a would do those lap times! I'll keep dreaming, some day.......hehehehe! Best time for me to date is only a 1:58.10 which would put me about 60th on that list! Far out there are some fast cars there. I see that 3 nissan silvia's made it in the top ten. Not bad! I keep telling everyone they make an awesom circuit car but no one ever believes me!! I have a trackday on the 24/2/07 at EC, so I'll have to see if I can improve on my times. -
I think even if you wacked on a turbo back performance exhaust on the Mazda3 MPS you would get pretty good gains. I'm pretty sure the suspension could also be tweaked to get better handling over stock too. I reckon they'd do really good in a tarmac rally event like Targa Tas.

If you get it for $15k you won't be getting ripped off. Just don't go over $18k, cause there are lot of R33 s2 around under $18k.
-
around $15k. is it manual?
-
Cheers! Thanks everyone. I noticed more people on SAU are into their trackdays compared to those on ns.com. Suits me cause I love hitting the track. Hope to do around 6 trackdays and a few supersprints this year.

Trust33 whats with the oil cooler vent? Why not just cut slots into your inner guard? It's only plastic after all! LOL!!! Also, what's your brake set up? Sounds like you had some fading issues. What pads are you running? Tell your cousin - cool pics! and he doesn't need much done to hit the track, get him out there!!! Bet you he must've been spewing when he saw all of you blokes going around. Who's got the stock black R32 GTS-t? Looks like it only has FMIC and xzorst?

I want to learn more about these deflectors and brake ducting. Got any photos and prices yet John? Got any for the 200SX? Cheers.

S15's please give some opinions
nismoman replied to twoquik's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Bit off topic, but don't let people put you off the Silvia series. the general feeling I get from lots of enthusiasts is, if you own a 200sx then you must love drift or are into drift. They don't see that the 200sx makes a great circuit car. I'm building mine for fast lap times. Also at Wakefield recently, a competition drift car was the fastest on the day beating many circuit set up cars. -
Can I Mount My 4 Point Harness Like This?
nismoman replied to abcent's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Mounting the harness from the lower rear seatbelt mounts is ok. It is within the angles specified in the CAMS manual. Its stong as! it passes crash tests from the nissan factory and is within the angles set by CAMS. In my S14a I use the rear lower seatbelt mounting points. I looked into mounting my harness from the parcel shelf using a 5mm backing plate. There was room to do it, but the parcel shelf itself is made of the thinnest bit of sheet metal I have ever seen. I reckon you'd rip it to shreds and pull the backing plate right through it if you had an accident. -
Should be able to pick up a R31 skyline with RB30 and 5 speed manual for about $2k. You might need to spend a little bit on maintenance and servicing to get it to do lots of hard laps consistently though. Sure it's $2k to start, but could cost you another $2k to keep it going. That applies to any cheap track car. Just keep that in mind.
-
It sure can be done. I had a RB25DET conversion in my 180SX. By fitting a skyline crossmember from the R32/R33 the RB motor will bolt directly up using the nissan mounts. You should be able to get out of it for around $5k-$6k all up. That's if you do a fair bit yourself. It doesn't mess up the handling too much. Maybe if your building a drifter, but for a fast street car and occasional track day car it delivers awesome punch and torque!!! After going through one though, it's alot of work and you can get similiar power and results from going sick on your current engine. (that is unless you have a NA CA18DE or SR20DE already!!!!)

S15's please give some opinions
nismoman replied to twoquik's topic in General Automotive Discussion
No. None of the S series silvia's (S13/14/15) have crappy ceramic turbos. They are steel wheeled and most will handle up to 1 bar of boost easily. The pick of any of the silvia turbos is the JDM spec S15 T28 Ball Bearing turbo. I have seen these turbos achieve 200rwk's with the right supporting mods. Here's a rough guide: S13 - T25G turbo (max power is approx 160rwkw) S14 - T28 bush bearing (max power is approx 190rwkw) S15 - T28 bush bearing ADM, ball bearing JDM. (max power approx 190 - 200rwkw)
