Big fish, little pond. Little fish, big pond. It's all relative isn't it?
-
hahaha! What's the going rate? 5 million? It would have to be a bloody big hat hey!!! Plus me first before anyone else! Even if it is only a bottom team, I'd love to have a fang.
-
Love the spot where if you give them enought money, you could drive it! lol!
-
64 wheels at say $1000 each? There's approx $64,000 worth of wheels there!
-
So who's planning on entering? What car, what class and what lap time goal does everyone have? Me: S13 Silvia Open Class Sub 1:45
-
Go the landcruiser! I have a 100 series petrol V8 and it averages 16.5lts/100km's. That average includes towing my silvia to and from the track for 9 events last year, EC and Wakie. Obviously, the turbo diesel would be better, but I love the landcuiser.

Pulse racing is going for Pro Class Gold this year in the Evo8. They took out Open Class last year with a 1:36 lap. More details here: http://www.worldtimeattack.com/index.php/pulse-returns-in-2011-with-pro-class-entry/

I tried Virgils, Shannons, Piranah and OAMPS. OAMS were the cheapest, however I wasn't insuring for $60K+ I was after cover for my track S13 of $20k and was quoted $400 p.a. Not bad. $60K cover at $800 sounds like a good deal then.

That definitely makes sense if you have a road registered car. My S13 hoever is not road registered. It's a track only, uncomplied car with a roll cage (read never goin to get road rego) so it's open class for me! Not that I'm complaining, I have no real chance of winning a trophy, I just want to compete and try and beat my personal best lap times. Hopefully there are some other competitors in similiar cars and pace that I can have fun with.
-
I really like that idea as well. Would suit me perfectly in my budget built S13 track car. I am entering for the first time this year, can't wait!!! But, as I don't see it becoming an official class, we could just run our own unofficial "personal open class" here on SAU!!!

It's just a precaution to prevent your brake pads "welding" to your brake disc or linings. As the brakes get very hot after a track session, if you apply the handbrake, the brake pads can get very sticky and can bind up. Best to avoid using the handbrake and use a wheel chock.
-
Brake in a straight line before you turn in. Keep it smooth with the steering inputs. Check your tyre wear and pressure after each session. Take a tyre pressure gauge.

^^ Yep spot on Harry. I love having a fang, but most importantly it's about the competition with similiar spec cars.
-
Like I said earlier, it would be better if they adopted time attack style classes with RWD, FWD, AWD, TURBO, N/A as well as engine capacity. Plus I agree with Stuart and Duncan about the lack of consistency across different states and competitions. CAMS is a national governing body isn't it?, why then is there different rules for different states?
-
^^ I second that. Also what about imported S15 vs local S15? One is type 1 or 2 but the import one must be SV? 2wd turbo car's and especially imported 2wd turbo cars stand no chance of being competitive.

^ +1 Baron!! Luckily my S13 track car only took around 10 months to complete, but it's always constantly evolving and costing much more than expected! There is certainly no subsitute for getting in the car and just driving it! Too many people get caught up into the modifying trap and get in "project" mode to get the car up to certain spec. It's fun building them, but even more fun driving them! -
Appreciate the reply. It's not just newer Jap cars that the rules don't suit, It's turbo cars in general. Specifically 2WD turbo cars. Let's face it, how many IPRA Spec cars bother competing in a supersprint? They are too busy racing IPRA! They should change the name from Type 3 to something like Type V8. lol! I like the time attack classes with FWD, AWD, RWD, 4CYL, 6CYL, NA, TURBO etc.. perhaps they can move toward introducing these classifications in the future. I know it's hard to please everyone and the NSW Supersprint Champs is still a favourite event of mine, and I'm just being a little critical. The officials and volunteers do some excellent work and I appreciate the work they put in. Hope to see all of the SAU gang at the first round next year on 26th February!

I have some questions regarding Type 3 As below: Type 3 Competition vehicles based on Group 3J - Improved Production Cars rules as defined in the CAMS Manual. Minor additional freedoms are allowed to recognise that there will be some road-registered vehicles competing, that cannot meet full 3J rules. What does "Minor additional freedoms" mean? If I have a road registered S14 200SX with minor mods such as exhaust, intercooler, increased boost and ecu remap, could I run it in Type 3? Surely I don't have to fit CAMS boost monitors and CAMS restrictors to my car? It's a road car for god's sake! Why should my road car have to comply to full IPRA spec? Type 3 really favours naturally aspirated V8's, and you'll find that's all there is competing in that type. If not Type 3, then it's only eligible for SV and get flogged by clubmans and 4WD turbo's with unlimited modifications.
-
I for one, chose to build a non-registered track only S13 with full roll cage because I enjoy the extra security in the event of a big crash. As the car was not road registered, I was required to obtain a CAMS log book. (which I happily did) If I built another car, it would keep the car road registered and install a rear 1/2 bolt in cage only and run in type SV or 3. As people have said, at the end of the day, it's only a supersprint and we are not racing for sheep stations! If LSX-438 wants to run at those speeds without a cage, so be it. Fingers crossed nothing bad happens.

I have a Bond bolt-in cage as well. 6 point, side intrusions & rear harness bar. It's great! Can't complain for the price. Would love to get a proper complete weld in job in the future though.

Thoughts On Na Track Car
nismoman replied to No Crust Racing's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
^^My favourite quote at the moment! I've been telling people the same thing! Off topic, but alot of people get caught up modifying the crap out of their car, when they should be focusing on putting the laps in. Back on topic, I have considered the same thing Dan. For fast/fun NA cars there's always the MX5. You compete with others in the same car, so the outright lap time doesn't matter. Everyone I know who own's an MX5 (including evil!!) always comment on how fuss-free they are maintenance and running wise. I don't like FWD myself, but you can't ignore the raw pace that a lightweight Honda VTEC NA car can deliver. Most winners in the lower capacity classes (under 2L) are Honda, Civic, Integra, S2000 etc. Seems I'm repeating what Baron said!! lol! Also, when dumhed (on ns.com) owned hello kitty NA S13 Silvia, he was managing 1:09's I think around Wakefield. Managed around 140rwkw's out of SR20DE. link here: http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.p...;st=0&fcat= I was thinking a similiar package has potential to win a few class trophies too! -

Go the S13!! So good to see a cool RWD car ripping it up against AWD evo/rexies! -
Remember Webber won last year's Brazilian GP, so you have to think he's a good chance of a victory there again. It certainly is a strong circuit for him.
-
RBR getting behind Webber makes the logical choice, but I seriously doubt they will. (which I think will cost them the drivers and constructors championship) I get the feeling they will only support Webber when it is mathematically impossible for Vettel to win the cup. Going by the number of races left, it will be too late.

Bolt-on Spacers For Track Use?
nismoman replied to Sir Lord Van Von Vader'ham's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Aahhh 4 stud. That explains it then. Go the spacers!!
