Yes Koboyashi made some good moves at the end and gave us some entertainment, but lets not forget he had a huge grip advantage with brand new soft tyres.

Enough rules and regs talk, it distracts us from remembering why we like supersprints so much. For me I love getting out there and getting the absoulute maximum out of my car and my abilities. I'm constantly searching for that perfect lap. Quite a challenge. With the silvia, I'm looking at 2.2 stroker kit, forged internals, 600hp turbo, external gate running 30 psi, PPG gearset, carbon fibre panels, full aero work. The list goes on. Wait! I'm dreaming..lol!!! Not going to happen before next round, but would love to have all those mods one day. Yes one day.... Seriously, the only thing I'll be doing will be putting fuel in it and might give it a wash. Oh and I would love to get down to 1:45's around the creek, but will be happy if I beat my PB of 1:47.5 BTW, mods sound good Brian. The R100 is a fun little race car.

Looks like shite!

I see your point and to a certain extent I agree, but I'm not the one who wrote the rules. I just see some serious flaws in the enforcement of the regulations that sees road registered cars getting a free pass on modifications and not having to meet class requirements. As I run in 4D, it doesn't affect me. I would like to see it fairer for others throughout the field. If I get the opportunity again, I will build a totally off tit's road registered car with unlimited mods and take advantage of the lack of regulation.
-
I have no issues with any wing or R35's running in 4D. I'm just trying to point out that any road registered car in the supersprint championship with modifications, entered under type 2, 3, 4 and SV need to have an engineers certificate or RTA letter. I would imagine most would not and I know this is not checked at scrutineering. For cars that are not road registered (such as ourselves), we have met all CAMS regs, roll cage and log book requirements so I think it's only fair that road registered cars meet their requirements of having the proper documentation for their modifications. I'm after consistency that's all. My old 180SX with mods had an engineers certificate and this helped avoid trouble with police and defects. Even fitment of a blow off valve or pod filter to a street car requires an engineers certificate or emissions test from RTA to ensure it still meets ADR's.
-
Reading the NSWSSC vehicle regulations, it actually pays to have a highly modified street registered car and put slicks on it. SV class allows unlimitied modifications, provided it still meets all road registration rules. In fact, any street registered car that is modified must still meet ADR requirements and as such shall possess either an engineer's certificate or a letter from an RTA authorised inspection station saying it does so. NSWSSC regs also state that this documentation must be presented at any event the car competes in at scrutineering. On another note, if any full blown sports sedans turn up at our supersprint such as Darren Hossack in his Audi 6ltr chev, I'm sure he would be collecting all the trophies, but I guess he has other championships to win and bigger fish to fry.

Excellent bench with integrated tyre rack. Great use of space. Really like the mesh lined wall to hang car parts off too! Seen it in some workshops and works well in your garage by the looks. Well done! Very jealous too!

I will be talking to tyre suppliers, but sometimes they only tell you only what they want to sell the most, hence my post on here to see if anyone has been in a similar predicament. I'm struggling to accept that semi's can be quicker than a slick for outright fastest lap. As I'm already running in 4D (sports sedans) all of my competition are running slicks so I figured I may as well join them and try to gain some valuable seconds. (I'm the only one running semi's in my class.) After talking to some fellow competitors on Sunday at Wakefield, I'm pretty confident now that I will be able to get a decent set of slicks for around $1600. Thanks for the replies everyone!

I wan't counting either until I came in and checked my own lap timer in the pits. Sh*t happens. It affected me by one point and one position, but at the end of the day what can I do? So meh....I'm over it already. I know the car can do the time, I just have to make sure I do it in the allocated number of laps.
-
Surely the dorian timer would have captured both our fastest laps then? So why not include them? I might have to contact the mini car club for explanation? When I'm out on track, I keep the foot down until I see the chequered flag. I reckon it should count!

Yay!!! I managed to get into the 1:06's!!! Very pleased with 1:06.5 Great day, nice temps and not too busy. Was good for a change, it felt a little empty there towards the end of the day. One thing though... the last couple of sessions of the day, say after 2:30pm they started giving us 5 hot laps. Did anyone else noticed this? I didn't mind, more laps = more chance of getting it right! This helped me on the last lap of the 5th session to post a 1:06.33 (according to my lap timer), HOWEVER... it didn't count. Results show only 4 timed laps per session (which I guess is correct according to supp regs and all) just a little frustrating that my fastest lap of the day didn't count. I wonder why they were giving us 5 hot laps instead of the normal 4 laps like at the beginning of the day? Why let us run them if they don't count? Very confusing....
-
I guess I'm after a tyre that will give me the best lap time but also a bit of longevity. The sprints I'm in consist of 1 warm up lap, then 3 hot ones and 1 warm down. With that format I thought a full slick could be brought up to temperature and bang out a quicker time than semi's. I don't like the sound of slicks going off after a handful of heat cycles though... Don't want to be left with hard as nails slicks after two events. Could it be true that the Advan A050's are the ultimate sprint tyre for quick lap times? Over a slick even?

Hi fellow motorsport guru's, I'm thinking about getting full slicks for next year's supersprint season and there are so many brands out there, I don't know where to begin. I've never driven on them before, only driven on various semi slicks so anyone with experience with slicks could give me some advice? What brands offer best value for money? Which ones would be best suited to 3-5 lap supersprints? Any changes I need to make to the car suspension/set up wise? Special care or air pressure required? In the supersprint series, I notice people running Avon and Michelin, but haven't noticed others. I believe Kumho, Hoosier and Dunlop offer slicks as well. I have 17 x 9 inch wheels on all four corners so can run the same size tyres front and rear and car is S13 Silvia. P.S. On a tight budget so hopefully can find something for under $1500 Regards Mark

Nice reading between the lines Neil. Nice effort. It's always a laugh hearing any info or misinformation! Have to say the supersprint website could do with some more updates or additional features. I have to log on here everyday to get my motorsport chat fix. LOL at window comment! My contribution: Glad to hear less clubmans attending. They always take up all the good garage spots! They are a clicky bunch also! Cold air will be good for the turbo cars but low track temps not so good for grip levels I'm looking forward to try and extend some points lead over my competition in 4D i.e. the beetle and datto 1600. (Can't compete with R35 GTR's, Marek flogged me when I followed one session) Wakefield circuit is more suited to my car and it's a good opportunity to get some more points advantage before the Eastern Creek rounds. Another good thing about Wakefield is it's very kind to my tyres. Eastern Creek really flogs them. I'm hoping to god my tyres will last me the rest of the season and now that we only have 4 rounds to go, I might make it. I then have a decision to make for next season, whether to run full slicks or buy another set of semi-slicks. Pro's and con's for both. A bit to weigh up. Haven't priced any full slicks, but I imagine they will be dearer than the last semi's I got for $330 each. I know the silvia will go quicker on slicks but then what to do if it rains? Ideally I'll need to buy another set of rims with another set of semi's on them! So it could be an expensive exercise. Maybe I just buy the slicks and gamble on no rain for all the rounds next year. hmmmmm...

Round 6 this Sunday - Wakefield Park I'll be there in the S13 hoping to crack into the 1:06's. I think it will be damn cold but hope again it doesn't rain. Any news, gossip or predictions for the weekend?

Show Me Your Racing Machines

Those crappy Falken Azeni's you are running aren't helping your cause. If funds allow, try to get some newA050's or even RE55's under that R34 and look out EVO's!! -
Just Jap Racing And Ghepardo Seats
nismoman replied to No Crust Racing's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Definitely should add a harness. Keeps you safe if you roll amongst other things! I was going to add that the sparco sprint is a metal frame (but that info was on the linked page). It could be lighter and more comfortable but I like it. Plus I got it at a steal and was a better option than any just jap seats or others at the time. To be honest, I would like to upgrade my seat to a fibreglass one and upgrade my harness as well to a 5 or 6 point 3" harness as I'm only running a 4 point 2" harness. -

I got a sparco sprint seat and it fits into S13 really well on mounts I made and with universal slider. $499 from revolution racegear. More details here: http://www.revolutionracegear.com.au/index...Primary&CDO -
I think they will let you run first time up, if your car has the following, • A fire extinguisher to CAMS requirements and fitted within reach of the driver. • A blue triangle, 150mm on each side mounted to indicate the battery location. • A secondary method of securing the bonnet. • All forward facing glass lenses to be completely covered by a protective film. • All loose objects are to be removed from the car. • The battery is to be firmly clamped. • Competition number on doors (about A3 size) • Front and rear tow hooks HOWEVER: Best to contact the Supersprint advisory panel via email here: panel@supersprints.com.au and ask them any questions to be sure you can run before paying any money and being disappointed.

Don't be put off. I have to run in 4D as well and it's only a 200kw silvia with all metal panels and zero aero work. There are plenty of road cars out there with more mods than my track S13. I've been sandwiched between two full blown sports sedans going through turn 1 at eastern creek and still came out in one piece! Sure they were quicker but over 4-5 laps they didn't lap me. I think they did like 1:39's-1:40's and I did 1:47's There are still plenty of cars you find company with doing similiar lap times.
-
Yep. That is right. Basically same regs and entry form used for all rounds.

Thanks Duncan!

Hi there James, Supersprinting is so much fun! Is the car road registered? This has a pretty important bearing on which class you can run in. If your car is not road registered, most likely you will have to run in Class 4D (sports sedans) 3J in the supersprint = Class 3D (improved production) but being turbo you need to run a restrictor and meet 3J rules as per cams manual. For unregistered cars, the scrutineers like you to have the car log booked to ensure it meets safety standards. So get a cams spec cage like you said, (bond bolt in will do fine) and then download logbook paperwork from cams. After that, arrange a scrutineer to inspect your car at a round of the series. Briefly, the supersprint classes work like this: Type is split up into : 1,2,3,4,5 & SV 1 = stock standard car 2 = small mods, suspension, exhaust 3 = More mods than type 2, but in line with 3J cams rules 4 = More mods than type 3 5 = Open wheel or really fast race cars like radicals SV = engineered or import cars that are road registered, think supra, GTR etc. Then, they split you up on capacity, A,B, C, & D A = 0-1600cc B = 1601-2000cc C = 2000-3000cc D = 3000cc and over If turbo/supercharged then have to multiply capacity by 1.7 For more information visit: www.supersprints.com.au Follow links to rules and regs and news for entry forms etc. Regards Mark

Anyone got any vids or pics from the weekend?

Yeah the 1:06 didn't materialise, perhaps next round in 2 weeks. 1:07.07 is still a PB for me so pretty happy. Congrats to Duncan for new record for type 4 and class 4D. Neil laid down a quick time also, and I see from the rounds so far the lap times are coming down. Well done Neil. Regards Mark
