  2. As nice as they once, were, this IS a '93 model car we are talking about. Sure its a bit low for a V-spec, but not ridiculously so. No 15 year old car is going to come without problems, whether they're immediately evident or come up down the track. The maintenance costs are high, so prices have been dropping fast and they'll continue to do so. Supply & demand.
  3. Nope, i got the workshop to buy me one... not sure from where but i think the actuator is rated at 1 bar (il check the details anyway). Most f*kd actuactors cause a relatively large spike at some point... mine is a gradual creep which is typically wastegate/flapper issue, although i'm not quite sure why it returns down to 18psi. After machining i guess we'll see.
  4. best i had on my phone, don't have access to the scanner atm to upload the sheet....
  5. yep, il post it up tonite...
  6. Well i doubt its my dump pipe. I got a large bell-mouth dump made up for it. Looking at the dump i just can't see how it would restrict the flapper, its big enough. It might just be the housing design, maybe it doesn't allow it to open fully? I guess after i machine it we'll see. Looking at the boost curve, it creeps very slowly up to ~21 psi, then creeps back down to 18psi, there's no spiking so i doubt its the EBC, it looks as if there is a restriction of some sort and the wastegate just isn't doing its job properly. I can live with a 20psi creep, so i'm not in any hurry, but it would be interesting to know whats causing the problem.
  7. BHDave, u sorted out the wastegate issue yet? Got mine tuned yesterday, and the issue with mine was that the flapper wouldn't open fully. In the end, tuned it anyway: hits 18psi ridiculously quickly, then creeps to about 21 before going back down. Still tuned it safely to 250rwkw but im going to get the flange ground out a bit and see if that fixes it. Happy with the result though: power curve is very linear with no lag whatsoever, full boost just before 3k, and made 250.2 rwkw on shootout mode at RE customs. The turbo itself has got plenty more in it too - made 260+ at the wheels (and rising) on the untuned first run. Goes like an absolute animal: 1st and 2nd have no traction ... il upload the graph soon
  8. Item: JJR Stainless Steel Split Front/Dump pipe Age: 6 months old Condition: Excellent Price: $180 FIRM To Fit: R33 GTS-T Location: S.E. suburbs, Melbourne Contact: PM or msg on 0423 280 746 Comments: This is a GREAT upgrade for an R33. Have a look at some of my old posts - it made a HUGE noticeable difference for me (felt like a good 20rwkw) and can be bolted up by anyone in about 25 minutes. Sounds great as well. Retails for $269 of JustJap: http://justjap.com/store/home.php?cat=252&...on=0&page=2 Asking $180 FIRM. It's only been on my car for 6 months, but due to a turbo upgrade, i've had to get a custom dump made up. Comes with all the bolts & can use the standard R33 exhaust gaskets. It even has a screw hole built in for your factory O2 sensor. (The picture i've taken shows my O2 sensor screwed in). Come pick it up!
  9. mmmm..... 20psi before 3k.... and mine is getting tuned tomorrow too =D =D =D =D out of curiosity BHDave wat supporting mods are u running with the 3071?
  10. Couldn't agree more, its about time we all got a reality check on what the price of the GTR will be. Even a high-school economics student will tell you that talk of "oh, it costs nissan 80,000 to bring the GTR here so they'll sell it for 82, 500 because they're such nice people" is rubbish. Pure economics: Nissan is a free-market company. Free-market companies always wish to maximize profit. If the maximum profit comes by selling a certain number of units at $100 000, they will do it. If the max profit comes by selling less units at $200 000 then that's what it will be. Given the mostly niche demand for the GTR in the Australian market, I'm betting my dollars on the latter of the two. Yes Australia has a massive Skyline/GTR fanbase. Yes its raised the car into the spotlight and given free marketing. To Nissan Australia though, the majority of these people aren't the target for a brand new 11 sec supercar.
  11. Thats some nice work, wish i had the time and effort to do that myself... oh well someone else can do it for me when my turbo gets here. As a side note, maybe we should merge this thread into that other 3071R thread that was going on a month or so ago...
  12. Well thats the thing, my turbo IS the 60mm wheel (-5023 on the garret serial number) and this housing is apparently made for it. I think the 0.63 housing on the 3071 will give a good mid-range: I'm aiming for about 260ish, and given that the 0.86 housing makes 270-280 without a problem, it should go alright. Guess we'l have to see when one of us gets these things going =) Anyway i might take my chances with this AVO housing. It fits the turbo and is exactly the same ratio, so i can't see why it wont work just as well as the garret item in terms of flow. Can always interchange it down the track anyway.
  13. WELL, i just found out that AVO makes a 0.63 internally gated exhaust housing to suit the 3071, with an RB25 dump pattern... AND at the same price as a garret exhaust housing. I'm looking to put either the garret one (requires new dump) or the AVO one on my "real" 3071 (since i don't want the external gate). Anyone had any experience, info on these??
  14. Picked it up today from the depot... Its an authentic 3071R, code and compressor housing matches BHPDAVE's above (-5023)... but what's the exhaust housing??? Doesn't look the same!!! Its for ext. gate =(
  15. When you are modifying a turbo vehicle, the point of most modifications (eg. upping the boost/bigger turbo) is to be able to push more air into your engine. In doing so, you must also push more fuel in to acheive the correct ratio an engine needs to burn the excess air you are shoving in. This is why you need to upgrade components of your fuel system like injectors & pump. Therefore injectors alone with the same tune/setup will not help you. Whether you need injectors or not is all about your power aim - a high power aim will typically need injectors that can push out the amount of fuel you need. A search will come up with plenty of recent threads about injectors and what power each type will handle.
  16. Absolutely insane in the flesh ... stands out like dogs balls (in a good way =D) I went past the bugatti veryron stand... looked for half a minute.... I went past the new "coupe60" stand... looked for a minute (Must admit it looked VERY nice. The ONLY holden i have ever seen whose looks impressed me). I went past the R35... stared for 15 minutes. Then ran to the bathroom. Biggest crowd by far was round the GTR when i was there, over any other car there. Pictures don't do it justice - you have to see it in the flesh to appreciate what an animal it is. Oh and there was an EVO X, Toyota Supra/LFA Concept, a few lambos ferraris and what not....
  17. would u by any chance have the black plastic seal thingy on the outside of the left hand door? i can do pickup im in SE suburbs too.
  18. nah no problem putting it out there: HPIAB: $1950 ($1750 for external gate) CRD: $1920 ($1770 for the external wastegate) APT: US$1449 + US$95 shipping + import duty + GST etc etc FULL-RACE: US$1149 + all above (didn't reply to any emails). Looked at ALOT of other places; most didn't have the "real" one, or didn't reply to my questions. Like i said before, vary wary of overseas shipping of delicate items like a turbo - not only that, you have next to no protection if your stuff isn't right/ get ripped off etc etc.
  19. Yep oblivion, i checked before buying that everything is in stock. So the turbo should be here probably monday i'm guessing (maybe tomorrow if im lucky). I asked HPIAB and to my suprise they have a "real" GT3071R on the shelf ready to go... and yes it is "a 700177-23 core which allows an off the shelf .63 4 bolt" - to quote morrie. This matches up to the garret specs on http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarre...T30/GT3071R.htm so FINALLY i've bought it (and at a decent price). Unfortunately, there's no place i know of in melbourne that does these at a decent price - not that i've looked all that hard as i've stuck mostly to online buying. An mate who actually works for Honeywell didn't give me a better price either. Getting them from America is cheap (especially with the current exchange rate) - but they take an absolute hammering during shipping (don't beleive anyone who says otherwise) so stick local!
  20. Thanks for the good essays disco =) Well if all goes well i should be buying the turbo tomorrow, and fitting it within a couple of weeks. Car is going in for 100 000 k service this monday, then the week after the turbo/injectors/powerfc/pump etc are all getting thrown in. Should be nice and fresh. I would have done it earlier but been weighing up the options ALOT. Disco is right, its not what you think: most turbos sold as a 3071 out there are actually cropped/bastardized versions. I finally found a genuine front-to-rear 100% garrett one at a good price but they tell me only external wastegate Asking around for IW now, but pretty close to finalizing it. I think external/internal is a choice you have to make based on where you want your car to go in the future. Firstly, i'm not going for any further mods after all this is done; secondly my car is under the radar, absolutely no exterior mods and you'd think it was stock as a rock looking at it (which is how i want it). Ext. gate sort of ruins that by a few hundred decibels Now I don't know what the exhaust flow will be like running a JJR split dump & stock manifold; was a great mod for my stock turbo - whether it will hold up alright and not f**k around with boost issues too much will be something I'll look at when the turbo is in and tuned. If BOZ22N was able to make 260kw at 13psi with essentially the same turbo (which is my realistic power aim) boost control issues shouldnt be that much of an issue with a decent EBC.... hopefully.
  21. Yep, internal wastegate it'll be then =) And don't worry i've been really picky and double checked with the supplier that the turbo is in fact authentic garret all round. Thanks for the reply, i'll be posting up dyno sheets within the next few weeks... should be interesting to see how the 0.63 housing goes =)
  22. Okay, i'm looking at buying my new turbo this week - going to go for garret 3071 with 0.63 housing. The IW and externally gated turbos come at the same price, but obviously i'll need to get an ext. wastegate if i go the latter option. A tial 38mm seems ok? A 0.9 bar rated spring should do do job? Is it even worth going external for the 260-270 (ish) rwkw i'm chasing? (have to get a new dump pipe as well if i go external). And what about the manifold? i think 3071 will bolt up to the stock item but not 100% sure. I'm running low on funds so although i want to get a 6boost will probably stick with the stock item... for now. Thoughts?
