Got The Right Tool For The Job?
Turbo Dave replied to djvoodoo's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Not sure if it's the same a GTR but get a 14mm socket and extension and take the whole cradle out. it comes off 3 at a time. Be sure to remove the loom and cover first of course. -

Cheers I will have a look tomorrow and if I have no luck I will contact my tuner and get it sorted. -
Tuned But Not Going Well Now!
Turbo Dave replied to Turbo Dave's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Sorry only had a few mins of service before. 1995 R33GTR Has a link G4 ecu, Older style N1 turbos, 650cc injectors, 3.5" exhaust running 16psi. -
Got my car tuned a week or so ago and have only driven around town until today, just arrived in Sydney and it running like crap! stayed off boost as much as possible on the way up but still averaged 13.9Lper 100 which I reckon is a bit steep! Light load driving is good but but it missfires and pumps soot out the back under high load. Can it go out of tune? Or has my highway tune fouled the plugs?
-
Oil pressure in my GTR sits lower than my GTS-T did under normal driving, still goes up the top when cold and when up the top of the rev range(5000+). When Driving at 2900RPM on the highway mine sits just under the No.4 Mark. Not sure if this is normal for GTR's or maybe has the same sort of principal as the N1 water pump that doesn't move alot of water at low speeds as it's meant for lower drag in high RPM application's. Not sure if my car has a stock Oil Pump or of it's an upgraded unit that has a similar theory behind it. I use Motul 300V Competition 15/50.

I do get that feeling also, I drive a truck for a living... 62tonne B-Double not exactly the fastest accelerating machine! GTR feels like a Go-Kart after 12hrs driving. I spend a few hours a day trolling threads and reading different results from peoples setups. I'm set on getting to the 400kw mark when the time for upgrade comes so instead of have a toy in garage, I have a "Silly Toy"

Locaton slows me down a bit as I don't want to get it rebuilt in my own town. And I like being married so I tend to tell her the truth.... Most of the time anyway!! Haven't done comp tests yet might do it next time I do plugs. What numbers should it read???

Brand New Rb26 Performance Parts
Turbo Dave replied to Chris32R's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Oh man! Almost perfect timing on the -5's. Some groveling to be done me thinks!! -
Had a Heart Failure today when replacing my plugs, No.6 was firm the whole way out and didn't tighten up. Thought it was going to be an engine out job but found a place in town that Helicoiled it in the car. That would have been a great excuse for the Missus to accept a rebuild...LOL!!

What Is Better? Pods Or Panel Filters On Standard Airbox?
Turbo Dave replied to GD51LA's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I'm currently running 315rwkw with the stock airbox and K&N Panel. -
It might have been the older style Turbo's running out of puff at higher revs then. tuner said that when he went for more boost it the boost was getting wavy. Boost dropped off at 7000 and you could see it fall back on the rollers a bit. as seen here... Plan to date: Check engine specs, custom intake, -5's and fuel system to match and life will be good. I've seen a few vids when GTR's drive past bikes and just gets me wanting, but I still have to be a bit realistic and keep it drivable and not just a top end machine as it will do some interstate drives on occasions.
-
Not sure if it's built as yet, has had a tune but we are treating it as a stock motor until proven otherwise. Running 17psi daily but anymore and the stock airbox struggles up top. I'm going to address this once the -5's come along. Had an SS a few years back but is was quite dull really. And no matter how much money you spend on getting it going it will always be a "Commodore".
-
Yeah I know but I can't fit the family on a Hayabusa anymore!!
-
From what I can gather my current RB26 is a forged engine, so if I can confirm this when the time comes for some -5's it might be a cheap (sorta) upgrade. Would a Tomei pump and 650cc squirters runs the -5's to the end on the RB26? If it's as simple as a turbo upgrade and new map sensor I think this will be happening sooner rather than later, 400+ is calling my name??

I know it's old but this is what I was reading.. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Rb...hl=rb30+with+-5 Guilt-toy's comment's mainly.

I posted earlier about settling on an RB30 with -5's but am now leaning towards the RB26 I have with the -5's after reading about a few horror stories. I don't mind spending the $$$$ on rebuilding and getting it all going but don't really want to spend it 2 or 3 times as I have read with the 30 conversions. It was an old thread and things may have changed lately with the 30 conversions so I wont rule it right out for now but I'm not as keen as I was on the idea... Will definitely be going for twins on my future setup to keep with a hopefully sleeper stock look under the bonnet.......
-
If it's a mechanical knock like a Conrod trying to find it's way out or Piston Slapping then I don't think it would set the engine light off.
-
I'm thinking RB30 with -5's will fit the bill. Surely 400kw at the wheels will sort me out
-
I have a VL block in the shed for a rainy day. Might look into costing to build that with some dash 5's. Response and power???
-
The -5's are sounding like the flavor I'm after! Time for some groveling!!
-
Vibration could be anything. Oil Motul 300V Competition 15w50

I should have Clarified that the power figures were high(19psi 315rwkw) and low(280rwkw) boost settings not progressive increase in the one run. From 2000RPM start in 3rd it hits full boost(19psi) at 4200RPM. really starting to think about some new Garretts now....... Wife says "Thanks alot"...NOT!
-
Traction is definantly not a problem and if the older generation N1's are naturally laggy that would explain a few things. The power is like flicking a switch in 1st gear....Waiting waiting waiting... then BOOM its all on! I guess I was expecting that in 2nd and 3rd aswell, that rush of Big Bore bike acceleration that I used to have in my Hayabusa days. Makes 280rwkw@13psi and 315rwkw@19psi. I guess these turbo's are at their limits so if they are older style N1's I might be in the market for an upgrade. Would the -7's be that much better to warrant the expense?
-
Got my car tuned a few days ago and have had a day or two to drive it around and feel the rush of power I was anticipating. It does go really really good and makes 315kw at the wheels, having never owned a 300kw+ car before I was expecting it to make me feel like the drivers seat was going to snap off, but it's just not floating my boat as much as i thought it would. So now I don't know whether to chase some bigger numbers or work with what I've got for now. Spec Engine is unknown but been told by previous owner its a forged rebuild N1 turbo's 650cc injectors 2.5" stainless dumps into full 3" exhaust. Is 350kw going to feel that much better or do ya need to go for the 400kw mark to really feel like the afterburners are firing????
