The Automatic Performance Thread
Turbo Dave replied to WazR32GTSt's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Only just found this thread, These are the results Ive been looking for... Got mine tuned a while back and it makes 234rwkw@15psi. Goes good but am gunna get a bit more out of it once I get a complete box from MV and VG30 rear housing! Specs Below -
How Much Power Can An Auto Gearbox Handle?
Turbo Dave replied to SHETLANDER's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I was told by MV also that the stock box will handle around 260rwkw in stock form, but mine with 235rwkw rides the 2nd gear band during the change for ages so a shift kit and tranny cooler are next on the list, and if I can afford it I will get the higher stall option aswell. He said if I was going for more power then I would have to upgrade the box as it does not have enough clutch surface area in the box clutchpacks to hold onto much more power. The 235rwkw I have roughly equates to 420hp odd at the flywheel. Dave -
Yeah Series2, 300rwkw is way more than I have seen a hiflow pull from what I have read on here in the rb25 results thread, safely anyway. The stock exhaust housing runs out before then I think so thats when the VG30 rear housing comes into it along with a little more lagg. But yeah, I was told 260rwkw limit on the stock engine if I want it to last so thats about 235rwkw with an auto like I said before. From my understanding the Emanage Ultimate is very adjustable and doesnt hinder power output due to being a piggyback, I went for the Piggyback as they are more compatible when running an electronic auto. Mine is an auto so they drag about 25-30rwkw I have been told, so if it was manual it would be around 250-260rwkw which is as far as want to go with a stock engine. If you are wanting more from a stock engine then I think the longevity of your engine and turbo will suffer. I was also told by the guy who HiFlowed my turbo that 15psi is the sweet spot for that turbo. Hope you get what you are aiming for from your HiFlow but the kw number isnt of much importance to me, as long as it drives good and Im happy with the power then thats all I want. No offence but the 190rwkw you have wouldnt feel anything like a 235rwkw Hiflow. Also the midrange pull from my car now is unreal, my stock turbo wasnt even close to being in the same race. I am no expert but these are my opinions from what I have experienced and read about so far. Dave

If you housings are ok go for a HiFlow, I got mine done a while ago at a place in Sydney for $1350. Makes 235rwkw at 15psi, fullboost by 3000rpm and 8.8 litres/100 on the highway tuned by CRD.

I put FMIC, Pod, Full exhaust and my car went worse than before the mods. once I got my turbo Hiflowed and tuned to suit all the mods...Its a Rocket. Stock ECU is good for the STOCK setup once you change something the tune needs to change with it. do all the mods you wanna do then get a ECU of somesort either stand alone or piggyback and get it tuned properly. My car has gone from using 13.5 Litres per 100 to 8.8 Lph, not to mention bucket loads more power on the loud pedal. and still makes full boost by 3000rpm. Dave

Drained it back to the H mark........YUCK I hate oily hands...LOL
-
Should I drain some out of will it be ok till next change?
-
I Bet someone does it now.....hehe

That noise isnt the nicest but it is all intake noise from stock compressor, Since hiflowing my stock turbo but still running pod filter its much quiter and makes a nice high pitch whistle on boost, not that rushing air sound that stock turbo makes.
-
If there is 1 bar in the plenum then thats how much pressure is against each turbo no matter how many turbos there are. If you were to try and fill a flat tyre to 30psi with 2x15psi compressors do you think it will happen, I think not, they will reach 15psi (Equal pressure) and stop.

$1700!!!, I got a good deal then at $1350 -
Didnt mean to start a bit of a slagging war, but on the other hand it is good to see that SAU members are passionate about their cars no matter what it is. Talking with minister of finance and she has given the all clear for a GTR.....IF...... I still want one in 12months!! I said of course Im still gunna want one then, but yeah bit of comprimise. I will have to stick with the GTS until I can find a decent GTR that I can afford/talk her into, by that time they might be a bit cheaper and will be able to bolt some upgrades on straight away. but if I had the Cash and import experience I would get something like this I reckon, http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/deale...php?carID=63404 One would reckon the last thing I would want to do is drive a car on the weekends after doing 5000k's in my truck every week but hey....ITS A SKYLINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some great responses, opinions and advise in there..Thanks!! What attracted me to the GTS-T is price of course and it looks pretty tough for a stockish car compared to the australian trash from the same year, but I recently got a spin in my bro inlaws B4 Liberty, although auto its had some work and I couldnt believe how it stuck to the corners, just felt like it was on rails compared to my R33 which is very taily, and all this while it was raining..yep believe it or not IT RAINED!!!!!! hehe I was only passener but he seemed to be spending more time looking for the apex of a corner than while carrying alot speed than worring about spining the thing around coz stabbed it too much. But on the other hand I already have the GTS-T in the garage and it goes well, might sit back for a few months and see what Im thinking then instead of spending a bit of $$$ and being back to stock. But a GTR badge on the boot makes you think twice about giving it a run off the lights, every man and his dog trys to run my car at the moment from V6 commodores to 307 cluby's, Much to their disapointment. Cheers Dave

Im in 2 minds there too, do i go for a stockish R33 or spend similar coin and get a modded 32 with very little to be done but drive. I can get a 300awkw r32 for the $25k mark, looks pretty stock outside but I guess with todays cops that could be a good thing to have a sleeper. Thanks for the quick coments so far guys. Dave

Yeah!!! saw that vid a while ago, effing INSANE!!!! Has anyone else done the swap from a GTS-T to a GTR and been dissappointed with money spend for the exrta performance?? Or does it go without saying that GTR's are just in a league of their own. Never owned an all wheel drive car, is it that noticeable when driving normally?? ie: through the twisty stuff on the way to the Gong or is it mainly a benifit in racing/trackday situations? Cheers Dave PS. All coments welcome as I dont want to bark up the wrong tree if its not worth it!

Item:Walbro Fuel Pump Age: Condition:New Price:$160 Posted To Fit: (What car)Bought it for my R33 Direct Fit. Location:Wagga Wagga Contact:PM Comments:Decided to go for a nismo pump instead so this is not needed. I can post photos if needed but I think everyone know what they look like, let me know if ya dont. **Update** I set this pump up on my old cradle so its ready to go straight into an R33GTS-T. Used the stock pickup filter so it will empty the tank right out, no 1/4 tank issues Dave

If anyone is after a Walbro Pump I have one for sale Brand new!!!!!!! Dave

Just finishing off my Hi-Flow setup on the GTS-T and have decided that I really want a R33GTR. But if its going to cost a bucket load to get it going as good my car goes then I might have to have a rethink. Currently at about 220rwkw and feels very strong, will a GTR feel like this in stock form???? Dave
-
Plenty of threads about this topic, try a search!!! Or better yet just be done with it and get a Nismo intank pump like I just did, just slide it old one out and new one in and your done, no more pump worries. And it will suck every drop out of the tank too... Dave
