I have gotten quotes from a lot of places and for timing belt only it does seem to be around the $500 mark, But i am getting timing belt, tensioner, idler and water pump changed for $250+ GST (labour). It does seem a lot but it isnt an easy job for people that don't know how to do it and it is a vital part of your cars service.

People charge different hourly rates... I have been quoted $245 for timing belt, tensioner, idler and water pump.

You also got friday night drags at calder park, bit more local. Wont be many skylines there but still can be a good night. Depends on weather too

The manual has how to change timing belt, if u dont know what ur doing get it done by a professional. It can be a costly if you make a mistake!

Sounds like lifters to me. since u need an oil change soon anyways try puttin a THICK oil in the car (HPR50). This might free up the lifter. You dont need low oil for lifter to be making noise. Even buy lifter treatment (nulon stuff) and put it in with thick oil, then let car run for bit then take it for a drive. Drive it for 5-10min then it should go away, if not then you may need new lifters. Once you have done this i would recommend puttin the lighter more suited oil back in. I would try this as it is a cheap way to determine/fix the problem. If you dont succeed take it to a workshop

Thats a 100km roughly.. i wouldnt want to be driving long distance and then see the light come on, 10km later run out... Most cars give 10L warning,

Only thing i can think of that low in the rev range is Lifters. how often does it do it? And is the engine cold etc. did it go away?

Well i used HPR50 which seemed to work... And remember this is to free up the lifter. If it works then drain the HPR50 then put lighter oil back in. If it doesnt work then still drain it and put lighter oil in.

94-96 Integra type R V 94 series one 33 Integra had CAI and exhaust Skyline had Catback. Skyline won every time from standing start. Though top end it was dead even. only way to determine was to see who would be the bigger D*&^Head. Here are two stockish cars similar age. I can vouch for their top end power but this thread is near useless. stock V stock. Skyline.

Yes the Nulon stuff but it was the heavy oil that did it... I tried the lifter treatment with the old oil and it didnt work then drained old oil and put the HPR50 in it with Nulon lifter treatment. It then went away after a little while and havnt heard it since. If u try the heavy oil and it goes away then i would reccomment putting lighter oil back in it... the heavier oil just frees the lifter up. It should be ok to do the mods to your car (especially if the ticking goes away when warm) but I personally wouldnt only cause i am a neat freak and have to have everything running nicely.

My girlfriends VN commodore had it shocking! Was so loud and didnt go away. I bought HPR50 oil and lifter treatment, let it run for 10min then took it for a drive to get the oil pressure up. It went away within 10min of drivin and havnt heard it since. If you havnt tried heavy oil try that but if you have just get em fixed.

If you arnt going to take it to someone to get it fixed then I would say trial and error... Look at whats wrong and try and determine how it happened. Then try and fix it. Check the mounts for the exhaust first.
