You like what? Super lap or lawn mower vs bobcat drag racing? Chill Risking, i was pullin the piss.
-
We didnt ask you, Dont let the door bang your arse on the way out.
-
Suckitup you beer chewin cockroach, Race ya at superlap.
-
He's full of somethin.

Why does everybody think time attack starts and stops with WTA or superlap as its called. As much as I love the spectacle (minus the stinking drift cars) It is quite unique in time attack terms. We run time attack up here and it truly is run what you brung, Dont give a fig if its an excel or an ex formula one car. the game is open to all. The newman berry boys turned up one day in a stock 32 gtr and look at them now. Handbrake turned up in a shitty old brand spanking new 35 gtr and down specced it (in nissans eyes) to a fire breathing flame throwing horse of a car. Our man John drops in courtesy of his helicoptor and hops in to his fully prepped radical with pit crew in attendance. At the other end of the spectrum are the usual hard working middle class Aussies with their gtsts, gtrs, Evos old bimmers, modern hot hatches, hondas, holdens, fords and whatever else can be started and has 4 wheels. For those few happy hours each track day the world revolves around what happens there and then, The guy in the chopper pats the guy in the honda on the back when he chops a couple of 10ths off his pb and vica versa. Everybody to a man has no bad thing to say about any form of motor sport and most would like to try it all at some stage. Reality is the time attack format works best for most because of time and or budget constraints and in Mark and other peoples case family concerns about safety. (very real concerns I might add) Go bang doors, Go hill climb, go time attack, go karting. Just get out there and do it. The more that do the better our chance of survival in a climate of anti anything that blokes like to do.

Thats the paint rubbers version of time attack Zeb. Catchin on aint it.
-
Well said, The truth is the guys at the top end of time attack live on the edge more in one lap than the paint rubbers do in 10, Its awe inspiring to watch them leave nothing behind.
-
Just takin one for the team mate.
-
No, Its the fastst growing form of motorsport because all the paint rubbers like you start threads like "FATZ GOES RACING" and years later we're still reading about it with no racing in sight. Time attack started in japan, Spread to great britain and australia and is now gaining good support in the usa. Call it hype call it what you will but it gets peoples arse in the drivers seat and on the track and thats a f**king site more than can be said for the other disciplines of motor sport run by cams and others in this country. The support is obviously there hence builds of the quality of the Berry/newman combo, Handbrake, Those wicked evo's, GT3porkas, radicals, etc all adding a hang on for the ride element to it rarely found in other disciplines. Besides, there are very few other opportunitys for the builders of these monsters to compete in. Sports sedan is probably the only other avenue available to them and I could count the number of events held around here in a year on one hand with a thumb amputation. There are at least a couple of time attack/super sprint events available every week. Far better bang for buck.

Agreed Russ, My holiday to the Monaco of the high country last year (aka Goulborn) was one of the best times I've had in years, Tearin up wakie was as good as it gets for me. I have winton in my sights in the next year or so for the same reason. But superlap is something else. Just to see cars built when the rules have basically been thrown out the window is an awsome spectacle. Cant wait for it again this year.
-
Agreed, It would require an awd setup to utilise the type of power torque setup I envisage. Oh for an unlimited budget to be able to experiment with this type of stuff.
-
I'm not argueing with you Roy, i agree completely but, Until such time as I can bolt a pair of VQ heads on to an Rb block They remain out of the running in the quest for the best RB donk.
-
I've no doubt they would flow more Roy but the RB head should never be under estimated in terms of its ability move air. The trend around here atm is to lay off the mega port jobs in favor of more refined work in the chamber and a minor port tidy up to keep the velocity high for better spool. The guy that did my head sat me down and turned my ideas upside down by steering me away from major porting and a few other things. He compared the fabled yamaha designed 2J head to the rb and highlighted the fact that the ports are already larger in the RB. Just do the right touchups in a few spots and some secret squirrel shit in the chamber and the Rb head will flow all I ever need without sacrificing air speed. Heads are not a limiting factor in building a tuff rb engine.

Not sure dunc but I think you're missing the point. I can only speak for myself and those I know well enough to have an idea on but I am not going to Eastern Creek or any other track to beat cars of that calibre. I'm happy to just be part of the same event as those weapons. I would love to do what you do but man its expensive enough to race without rubbing. I know you guys dont go out to deliberately swap paint but the likleyhood of it happenning is far greater than in the time attack/sprint type format. I would venture to say that time attack is probably the fastest growing format in the track scene on a world wide basis atm simply because people like the idea of going hard on a track but minimising the risk of costly repairs. Any format is expensive enough with tyres, entry fees, fuel, maintainence etc so any way to keep costs down and still see track time is a win for me.
-
If i were going to go to that trouble I would throw the ford engine in the harbour and grab the nissan 4.8 with a brian crower stroker kit. Neither of them address the thread topic however. Its about RB engines, You know, the ones that actually bolt in to skylines.
-
doin my damnest Russ. Cpmpeting probably isnt the word but I really want to get on the track and have some fun for sure.
-
Just to put your mind at rest I'll take those shitty old h beams off your hands baron.
-
Who gives a toss how it looks if it meets the performace criteria. I hope they wax garretts arse to the point where garrett actually starts doing some real r&d and giving customers something better than 3rd rate service and dated designs.
-
I'm not going to debate the merits or otherwise of the quick spool valve here, there is a thread on it already, Suffice to say I like the idea but to each his own. You are correct in your 25 v 26 head comparison though,. There is farkall difference between the 2 other than bolt patterns and the vct setup. The neo head would be the way to fly as it already is solid operation. The build isnt about making 2000 hp but I believe an RB could be built to make 700 plus hp and still be a real torque response monster if all the technology available was applied. Interesting to hear others ideas. Obviously I am not the only person thinking along these lines.
-
We,ve seen some mighty impressive builds over the years on these forums but to my mind I dont think we've seen how good it can get yet. In conversation with my builder and tuner the other day I came up with what I believe would be the formula to creating an RB with the power and torque characteristics of a wild big block V8. A nitto 3.2 (or other) stroker kit for the bottom end to give max cubes for better torque and response crowned with a well prepped head with all the hardware to rev comfortably around the 8000 rpm mark fitted with a hks variable cam system To again improve response and midrange without sacrificing top end power. I like the idea of the quick spool valve currently being debated in the forced induction area. This mod along with the extra cubes and the variable cam arrangement should see an engine capable of carrying a rather large turbo in the vicinity of a T51R with the ability to show reasonably early boost numbers And some very impressive midrange power and torque figures. Turbo size and make would be discretional, I only used the garret to give an indication of size and I would probably look further afield for the right turbo for the job. I believe garret are going to be left behind in the next year or so as the new generation of turbos start to show their wares. Has anybody built an engine incorporating all these features and if so, what was the result. I may build it myself some time in the future. Ireckon it would really kick arse and take names. Thoughts and ideas Peeps ?

Thats kewl as GT. What do you mean by "I shit the gear", Did you muff the shift or munt the box. -
You nailed it from my perspective Baron. Run what you brung, If you want to build it balls and and all go your hardest, If you want to race mums magna knock yourself out, I've watched you race Duncan and i feel sorry for you mate. The gtr is knobbled to the point where you are only racing yourself and your best lap which, Surprise Surprise! Is exactly what we do at time attack.

What turbo did you settle on mark ? -
If you're just looking to make your caar a bit peppier you dont have to spend a fortune. upgrade the intercooler to a front mount or a 34 gtt unit, decent zorst system, T boost controller and something to control air/fuel like safc 2 or nistune. Wind the boost up to around 10/11 lb and standard everything else will see a decent and very noticeable increase over stock after you have it dyno tuned. As for the auto, Tellemf**kem, One of my lines is a 33 gtst auto and it has to be one of my all time fave cars. Finding one unmolested with low kays really bought home to me what a damn fine car a skyline is.
