Opinions Regarding Garett 2860 -5S On An Rb26
33GTRV replied to R33-RB26DETT's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
ive had -5s on a 26 and if i had my time again, for a streeter, i wouldn't do it again. Id look at n1 or similar as there are some proper fast street cars sporting these baby turbos and have great drivability -
My spool crankshaft was 24.41kg versus the standard crankshaft at 20.21kg

toyota ct26 for a 1hz cruiser hands down. Wind out the max fuel screw, run 12 pound and be surprised at the grunt it makes from 1500 rpm. Ibe done this to all my cruisers.

As the topic implies, im looking to import one of these cars. I have seen a few with s20's for approx 8.5m yen and in good condition, however contacting the companies has proven difficult. Is anyone in aus able to help me with this? Its more of a looking while i convince my wife that "those" new shoes look great and i can sneak it in.....know what i mean.

yeah. Interesting about the lack of water cooling on these turbos. But then again, they were around for a looooong time without it too. A random stab may be to keep it in a particular heat range to get the best out of it. Ive seen and heard of weirder things lol -
Updates! currently sitting at 127.1kg. Started to hit the bike a little more, fmainly for self satisfaction and to challenge myself Lets see how this week goes for me

pretty interesting. It would have been interesting to see how far you could have gotten to with the boost, but like you said, thats pretty ample for a sil! I have seen the graph, and for a turbo of its frame and capacity, it almost makes you wonder how it does it. I have also jumped onto the PT bandwagon, cant wait too see the results -

not a wieght thats negligible anyway. I had a set of spool rods and a set of custom CP's and rings all wiegh up to within 0.1 of a gram. The manufacturing tech used these days is heaps better than days of old. Well, unless you are buying 1900 dollar stroker kits for 308's Im building one at the moment and its giving me a headache! Told the guy what to buy, he seen the el'cheapo kit and thought it'd be the same as a set of carillo's, KB pistons and a Billet crank for less than half the price lol. -

LOL! Good to see some 3L vs. 2.8 rivalry there! Crank was unusually out of balance? mine was near spot on. Only took a tiny bit out. Either way, good too see some progression mate -
Dont worry about it brad, ill get another shop to fab something up. Thanks anyway

So, as the story goes.... A few years ago, 7 to be exact, i was in a little bingle with a piece of heavy equiptment on my way home from work. I was unfortunately run over by a B-Double, the operator had fallen asleep at the wheel and i was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I suffered a broken leg, 5 broken ribs, fractured skull and cheekbone, frractured forearm and a fractured L3, L4, L5 in my back along with 2 discs. I spent nearly 5 months in hospital and out of hospital, and i withered away to a scrawny little weasel. After i was released i was in a chair for 3 months while i was undergoing physio and easing my body back into mobility with the help of a frame. So, anyway, i got mobile again, but was told to not undergo any impact sports and to avoid impact excercise such as running and jogging. This is where the cars came into it. I started toying with my cars, and drinking piss, ALOT of piss. I had been doing this until recently, when my quack asked me what ive been doing to keep fit. I couldnt answer him. I occasionally take the dogs for a walk, but its not too strenuos, and not my classification of excercise. After a few questions each way and a few suggestions, he asked me if id like a few scans to see how my back was going and to get his opinion on what i can and cant do. I got a few MRI's done and he has given me the all clear to start excercise, BUT, no full contact sports like riding my now sold dirtbike or playing footy....yet So currently, im looking to myself for some inspiration, to get fit and start to look like i used to years ago, because when i was belted, i was'101kg, had the obligatory 6pack and vee and a great upper body, now im 131kg, and about as fit as a walrus in the desert. This is gonna be my weekly update, my weekly challenge sheet so to speak. Im going to ease myself back into it, nothing too rash or drastic, probably work on some cardio, light machine weight ect. My biggest challenge is going to be my love of food and beer, which i am not going to buy this week, and salads are the order of the day. So, ill call today day one. Im 188cm, pretty large frame(approx 65cm across the shoulders), reasonably thick upper body and im 131kg. Todays session is going to be 10 mins on the resistance bike, low res. followed by 10 crunches followed by 5 push ups followed by 40kg leg curls(5 reps each way) then a 2 min cool off followed by a 5 min bike at medium resistance followed by 10 machine lats at 40kg, 10 machine benches at 40 kg followed by 10 reps of 10kg fly's followed by a 5 min row at low resistance then a 3 min cool down, and repeat the above circuit once more. Ill be trying this circuit 3 times this week, giving myself one day recovery in between as to not interfere with my work too much. See how we go!

bump for an old school cool turbo

Well, i can speak from experience with a Vipec. The ecu works, does as its told and is like most other ECU's out on the market today, HOWEVER, the customer support from vi-pec is insanely good. I have called ray hall on a weekend and he has answered the phone, had a good hour conversation on the phone, and done it with a smile. I am in the process of getting the ecu's on board map sensor changed out to a 7bar item, and you know what its costing me? Postage. The guy is a bloody legend and knows his product very well. Ill go in to bat for the thing purely on the customer support i get from him

Well, engine harness is on, cold side is 95% complete, just waiting on a new fuel filter and some fuel line, then i can bang that in, put the cooler hose and radiator hoses on and im on to the injectors! Was considering going a set of "Adaptors to go from the ID's to the standard plugs, but im instead going to remove the old plug and hard wire in a new plug as it looks neater and there is a little extra wire there if in the future i decide to change my mind again. Id like to give a big shout out to paul, aka PIGGAZ for his help, and also a shout out to the greater SAU community for thier knowledge of all things arr bee! Now, some boring, but progressive pictures! On the way in, by yourself, this method makes it an absolute fcuking mission! In the hole! And as it sits at the moment, waiting for some precision goodness so i can start routing lines and making a dump! -
i got a custom set made, 87.5
