  1. I just don't understand what people can "tune" as such without an SAFC or similar fitted.. really all you can do is replace/fix any components or sensors that are dud and let the factory ECU do the rest. Make sure your FMIC isn't too large for the amount of boost you're running. Otherwise it's like trying to blow up a balloon from the other end of the hallway, there is just too much space for not much air to travel through. I'd recommend getting your car on a consult, gathering any error codes and maybe log a few sensors (O2 etc..) and then once you're happy with everything running properly, boost it.
  2. When I did the mod I went from about 390k a tank to 450k a tank, but it's all really down to driving style I guess.. I'm pretty easy on the car, doesn't spend much time above 3500rpm, but doesn't have to now.. before you really had to wring the neck out of it for any sort of performance, so effortless now. Different car! Even feels better down low than my TT 300zx which is 3L and has 2 turbos (manual) The mod is just in the sticky section under DIY.. I think it's called full boost modification or similar.. 5 mins work..
  3. Just the standard ground the solenoid so it's open all the time (or just bypass it..) but as far as having a switch for it.. I don't see a lot of point, as it's much more responsive with it fixed, and uses a reasonable amount of less fuel. More midrange = less right foot. But was good to see a difference in numbers, not just feel. It was mainly off the line where it made the difference. Up to 50 kph or so was HALF the time. I also tried one run with loading up the stall but the brakes couldn't hold it under full throttle. fun stuff anyway I would have done some 0-400m but not a lot of ACT roads where doing 150kph recommended..
  4. Modded my boost solenoid, So just a quick post with some 0-100 times on my stock S1 RS4. All recorded on a g-tech at night (canberra = cold) Before mod (stock boost cut until 4500 rpm) Run 1: 8.28 Run 2: 8.37 Run 3: 8.19 After mod (full boost throughout range) Run 1: 7.31 Run 2: 7.38 Run 3: 7.29 worth your time! Cheers!
  5. My fog light bulbs had been removed and the plugs cut off for compliance (crimp spade plugs work a treat to replace the plug). The bulbs for series 1 fog lights are H3C and a P.I.A. to source good ones anywhere except EBAY. Narva charge like $12 each for H3, but $50 for H3c. If you want to go for a narva or similar, purchase H3, and just ground them onto the chasis near the headlights, or just put spade plugs on the harness as I did and plug them into either the back of the H3c or to the extra wire that comes off a H3. For information, if you want an affordable H3c, supercheap auto sells their own brand for about $12 each from memory, about a quarter of anywhere else. And the S1 fog lights are awesome..
  6. Aren't they the alfa romeo guys? I used to get my Alfasud serviced there back in the day.. ?
  7. Evening People! I've always had my imports (Soarer, 300zx and now stagea) serviced at EVO motorsport in Fyshwick as they have always done a good job. Not the cheapest but they seem to know their imports. I have my 100k service due at I've been in there and had a chat about it and they quoted me $1100 all up including labour and parts. This included the usual timing belt, idler bearings, tensioners, water pump etc.. etc.. so what I was wondering was: Is this a good deal? Where do other ACT people get their ponies serviced? I'm only really going to EVO because I work in fyshwick, but I'm open to suggestions! Any recommendations?
  8. G'day people, I've read through the suspension faq thread, but there doesn't seem to be any definate about what the bilstein part number is for rear shocks for a S1 stagea RS4. Mine are tein at the moment and shot to pieces and I just want some OEM feeling good quality shocks at a reasonable price. If anyone could help me out with the part number that would be great! Cheers, michael
  9. Hmmn... so it seems overall that a mild exhaust could be the key to getting a bit more per tank on a stock car... ? I do like the idea of the SAFC but just a bit reserved about anyone here in Canberra really knowing what they are doing when it comes to tuning.. heard a lot of bad stories. Any recommendations here in ACT for a SAFC fit and tune?
  10. Hey hey People, So now having been a stagea owner for a month or so now I'm a big fan! but.. (and there is always a but) as we all know, it does go through the juice! Infact, it uses more than my twin turbo 300zx with 260kw at the wheels, but that is a manual and weighs 300kgs less.. but anyway! My Series 1 is dead rock stock standard. The only mod I have done is the boost solenoid, which did help slightly with highway consumption - around town, no real difference. Would any of the following mods make any positive difference to fuel consumption? (currently get 400km from 58L around town or 14.5L/100km) • High boost mode (helped a little on highway) • Good quality panel filter or pod filter replacement (uni filter or similar) • Exhaust - freer flowing, is there anything in the system that is particularly restrictive? • AFC or similar - I know they run rich - but is buying an AFC and leaning it out going to make a difference? • Plugs & Leads - is the stock gear any good? • Power mode - does moving the shift points up let the engine breathe more efficiently? • EGR gear - anything I can remove/plug up to help? Thoughts?
  11. Cheers mate I might take you up on that, I'm a bit of a 300zx guru, but not quite up to speed on these yet.
  12. So did anyone figure out what the plugs might have been?
  13. Hi People! This is my first post on the forum - as I am now a proud owner of a '97 RS4 stagea. There doesn't seem to be a heap of them here in the ACT, so if you see me on the road (silver - dual sunroofs) wave! I just had a noob question to ask as well - I've just about figured out every little trait of the car, except when the fog lights were 'disabled' for compliance they just cut the plugs off, so of course I want to fix this and was just wondering if anyone knew what kind of plugs they might use? Or just easier to go to an auto electrician. I'm talking about the small yellow ones next to the main lights. Anyway, thanks for providing such an excellent resource! Cheers, Groonsnout
