  1. Kind of a bizarro question but does anyone know if the CA18 or any similar nissan transmission has a mechanical speed sensory that would FIT in an SR (s14) tranny?

My HCR32 has an SR20 in it, and of HCR has a mechanical sensor that is too long/doesn't jive fitting into the SR to replace the digital stock one.

I'm stuck until i figure out a replacement as I'd prefer not going down the - modifying the cluster - route

    thanks

  2. hey mate if you need any advice, i have a sr20 powered r32 as well. best choice ive ever made. car handles sooo much better. are you on secretdrift at all? if so there is a thread on there. best to contact me on there as i use it pretty much every day. glad to see more sr converts. just a shame its in a 2 door.

    Hey there,

No I'm not on secretdrift, link me to the thread if you could please!

As for where I'm at, we had a few gremlins in the electrical system and needed a different trigger wheel, took us a month to get it all cleaned up. It drove for the first time last weekend. Doing the full tune later this week i hope.

  3. mmmm yea but i sussed them all out and they lookded ok ?

anyway i told the mech to just sort it out and let me no wats the go i have a sussy feeling like you said its one or more of the coils though!

ya thats the thing though, they tested out ok, resistance was fine, but when i put some splitfires in there, it was night and day. if you got a friend with new ones, try it out if the mechanic doesn't clean up the problem.

  4. That plus how hard it is to get skylines over there makes me glad i live here i feel some of the cars we don't get sucks then thank god i don't live in america

Ya i dunno. the FDs, and Supra mrk IVs were all here, but just never had a big marketing push or support scene. It was always Mustangs and 'vettes. Disgusting really..

That said, i'm glad in Canada we atleast have the 15 year rule, so skylines, silvias etc have been pretty steady for 5-6 years now. In some ways it worked against us though too.

Population of young aspiring tuners and road warriors suddenly having access to affordable turbocharged vehicles (modded I might add) = lots of problems on the roads and accidents... getting the attention of lot of government regulatory offices.

  5. why would you take out the beutiful RB !!! =(
I'd sacrifice the power for the sound of a RB any day

Believe it or not, losing that straight six sound was the point i struggled with the most.. :) I loved my RB.

But at the end of the day, I had taken that stock motor as far as it could go. I had done everything around the engine possible including using the ViPec and hiflo to run 300whp for the last couple years, but it's always felt like a thrown together mess of parts. I was either going to upgrade to a GTR this year, or build an engine.

Opportunity knocked with friend who was parting with his b.crower built 2.2 with gt35. only has 300kms on it. couldn't resist getting 500+whp.

im doing it... will have the engine in mid july... its a simple deal.. just need the sr20 crossmember..

i struggled with taking the RB out... but at the end of the day, its going to be a pure track car.. possibly even a time attack competitor.. so logically... the sr20 is the better engine... 70kg lighter... sits much further back.. and has a tried and tested path... you know that if you add this, plus that.. it will equal X amount of power.. as opposed to spending x amount on an RB20 and getting untried results or a possibly weak engine.

Heh, true. But you're right. There's alot of advantages, less weight (+my block is even lighter than a stock one), sits sooo much farther back (weight distr), and there's just a better history of knowledge and support on the SR, being that RB20s faded behind the 25 fast after 93 (though in canada they're still everywhere since we have the 15 year law)

mods list needed (for me anyway)

need the crossmember (tried modifying the engine mounts on the old one, didn't work)

    drive shaft needs to modified

transmission mount needs to be modified (this was easy)

and depending on the manifold you're using, i had to grab a different slave cylinder that was shorter (engine sat too close to the firewall). Used one off a Sunny GTi-R that was lying around.

Guess you probably need a throttle cable too, though i already had one i was using for a monstrous plenum i had built.

    -Cheers,

    Chris

  6. Should be the same.

    JDM / ADM = SR20DET

    USDM = KA24DE

Yup, no 240sx came out with a turbocharged engine, no SRs, CA18s, or anything else besides the KA series. Bringing in SR20s to swap in was probably the snowball that propelled the american tuner scene (yuck, can't even say that). 240s didn't see the s15 chassis either.

  7. No, they don't. Though swap is easy enough. 240s had the KA24DE engines. Originally in the s13 line it was because the Naturally aspirated KA was virtually on par with CA18, and since premium petrol was not very common, Nissan worried that detonation would have been a real issue in California and Florida, two of their main target demographics. That and part interchangability made it a decision to develop the KA... which of course by the time SR20 came out and s14s, it was too late to go back.

Silly yanks, always preferred luxury and no fuel economy over FI.

  8. as long as they aren't the 'Series 2' kind with the igniter built in (which they wouldn't be if they're for an RB20), they should be fine

Series 2 hey? what application would that be? Splitfires for the RB were good for all Rb20, 25, 26 etc, they were a one model fits all. Same with SR ones, CA-SR, 13, 14 etc

If i was to buy OEM coilpacks for my SR20, are the same ones RB20s use?

  9. what sr20 is it, becoz some ran a dizzy, even then youd wanna be 200% sure itl work, coz u could burn out the transistor pack and the ecu if your wrong.

Well it doesn't really matter what SR it is (its Crower 2.2), the splitfire coilpacks are good for all 32s-33s, and same with the SR packs s13s and up.

Are these the same Coilpacks though. It would seem so, but i want to know if anyone's sure or not

  10. Looks nice man but those wheels look a whole lot better with no center caps!

Really? see i always thought they looked better with them, and i know i see alot without the caps. I'll have to take them off and see how i feel about it.
