The Clean Vs The Sporty Looking.
PM-R33 replied to Spunky Munky's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Fair enough, but you said you told them it was a GTS, hence my point, nothing to do with untrained eyes. Also, you don't have to have untrained eyes to not quickly know the difference, there is that many GTR body kitted GTST's and GTS's around most times i can't tell from a distance till i get close and i could gaurantee most people on here would be the same. You said so yourself "a few skylines lined up next to me and said, hey is that a GTR". The gaurds isn't something you can notice till you are close, especially on dark cars (why they couldn't tell i do not know), side indicators being different is the main thing you can pick from a distance. Hell i've tried showing the difference to my girlfriend numerous times and she still doesn't really see the difference (mainly cause she doesn't care though). However it's a stock R33 GTR though, not a Lambo, you are making it sound like something it aint, hope it aint getting to your head just cause its "a GTR" cause from that last post it sounds like it is. -
Both from UAS i believe.

While on topic, any one running 18x9 +25 on the rear? How does it sit, any gaurd work needed? 18x9 +30 fit GTST's no problem (stock GTR wheels), so +25 should still be fine right?
-
Won't fit. Could dodgy them to make them fit, but would look shit. Completely different shape.

Rb25 And 26 Squish Pad Removal And Cr
PM-R33 replied to Chris Wilson's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah similar stuff that i researched into when i got my head done. For a street car don't remove them, big HP car not worried with low down power loss, do it. -
Hahahaha! God that was painful to read.
-
It says he has a 96 GTST, therefore series II, therefore no SIII GTR lights.
-
Hahahaha that's crazy.

You can't be a secondary driver on a turbo car, forget that bullshit right away. The most important thing is this. If you are driving a car that is banned for you to drive and you get into an accident that kills some one, even if it wasn't directly your fault you will be screwed for life, no insurance, no CTP, nothing, just jail. If you think that is worth the risk than go for it, but your an idiot either way.

R33 Suddenly Very Laggy - What Should I Test?
PM-R33 replied to Aidan's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yep can be, exhaust manifold pressure would be down from the leak and result in a longer spool up. However if it was leaking that bad you would hear it very easily. -
The Clean Vs The Sporty Looking.

I honestly dont understand why you would want people to think your car is a stock GTS.....but each to their own. -
Thats cause they aren't expecting a turbo on an E30 BMW, they are expecting one on a Skyline though and if they suspect something aint right, they will find it.
-
Hmm interesting, they recommended me the 80mm one for my setup. Roy, how on earth are you going to make something like that fit?
-
10mm 100%.

My download failed half way through for some reason Will try again later.

Let the download begin Thanks guys.

Oil Spitting Out Of Intercooler Piping
PM-R33 replied to usmair's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
MAP sensored or AFM? If MAP sensored, did you pop an intercooler pipe and drive like that with it popped for a while? If so that will cause oil to piss out from the oil seal due to no pressure on the compressor side for a long time. If it actually is the oil seal your looking at about $900+ to repair it, rebalance it etc. Here's a good thread to read regarding turbo's leaking oil http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=727476 -
Haha yeah i know what you mean, hence why i havn't bought one yet, so hard to justify the money for it. Maybe one day.

Off topic from the original post and actually talking about the technical side of people doing these setups properly, the problem i see is this: Most of these setups you see are on drag cars or street cars that have no other option, with fairly large turbos being put in the rear somewhere due to space restrictions under the bonnet, engine bay temperatures or other reasons. Putting aside the cars that have no choice to do it, since that isn't the case here, we all know you can fit whatever turbo you want into a skyline engine bay. So to the cars that do it on purpose: These big HP drag cars launch off the line properly, usually off a two step, antilag, etc. Therefore lag and response isn't really an issue since they build boost on the launch. On a street setup car however, the exhaust gas pressure in the manifold (remember the manifold is now an extra one to two metres long before it reaches the exhaust housing) would be very low at low rpm as would the heat in the exhaust housing due to this extra length causing high heat dissapation. Keeping exhaust gas pressure low at high rpm is usually a good thing when trying to push big HP so therefore the setup could benefit in that sense (hence why maybe certain drag cars use them in the states) however down low you want high exhaust gas pressure and heat to get the thing spooling and being responsive down low. Say driving at 40kmh at 2000rpm in third and planting it. It's going to take a longer time for the exhaust gas pressure to build up travelling the distance and as is the airflow in the intercooler piping to build up pressure. So honestly i don't see how response could be kept with a setup like this for a street car no matter what you did. A properly done front mount intercooler would have long piping aswell, therefore other forms of intercooling would have to be looked into, water-air perhaps. Everything is negative about a setup like this on a street car. The thing is on big block turbo V8's all this really doesn't matter since the displacement alone is enough to spool even the biggest turbo's fairly early, on a small 2-2.6L engine it does matter.

Thats what these forums are for half the time, a good laugh

The funny thing is you would get in less trouble from the cops getting caught driving a turbo car (fine, possibly suspended license and a don't do it again type of situation) then you would with a dodgy unsafe turbo set up underneath the car, cutting apart the floor where the passenger seat bolt down is. Not to mention how easy it would be for that turbo to get damaged from hitting something causing an oil line to split and a fire occuring from the exhaust. Then you would get done for exactly the same thing as driving a turbo car, plus a defect note and possibly your car confiscated and a larger fine for an unroadworthy unengineered car.

But the Plazmaman throttle bodies look sexy as!
-
FFS just wait till you can drive one legally and forget such a stupid idea. The people that do rear mounted turbo's do it for other reasons, not to hide it from the police. It's a stupid amount of work involved, not as easy as you are thinking, adds more weight to the car and your going to be cutting the floor pan underneath the drivers seat....umm yeah that aint dodgy and finally cops aint f**king stupid. Any half clued cop will find that something aint right within a few minutes. Also are you doing this to a GTST or a GTS? Cause if it is a GTST it don't matter if you hide the turbo in your glove box, car is complianced and registered as a turbo car, end of story. God school holidays are always a laugh on these forums, this P plater turbo crap gets brought up every time. Kid's thinking they have thought of something new that will let them through the laws that no one has thought about before, give me a break.
