Brake Grade Upgrade For My R33 Gts-T
PM-R33 replied to Tweaky's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Well I had a stupid bitch pull out of a side street in front of me today while doing 60kmh and had to smash the brakes and swerve into the other lane. Brakes bit hard and ABS was easily engaged and I pulled up with plenty of room thank god. So a nice little unexpected test lol. Definetely want to get some good tyres on there though. With regards to the master cylinder Duncan I think you are right. It is only minor so I will just leave it as it is. -
Brake Grade Upgrade For My R33 Gts-T
PM-R33 replied to Tweaky's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
The GTST piston area is slightly less than the Brembo piston area and the Wilwoods are slightly more than the Brembos. So it puts a little bit more bias to the front. Hence why I thought I would ask about the K sports to see how they were. Everything seems fine with the new bakes and I love them (I wrote up a bit of an update in my DIY thread). The only thing I noticed is the "bite" point of the brakes seems a little bit lower down. I'm completely used to it now but figured if a master cylinder upgrade would be beneficial it might be something I can look into. -
Excellent. Sorry I havn't been replying much. I don't have the internet at home at the moment (long story). Also I updated the DIY thread with my first test drive from the other night

Hahaha once these arrive. Need to make sure they fit before ordering more.

Bahahahahahaha yeah pretty much. Unfortunately I won't be doing a second run on these as I'm sure you can all understand. So not worth the headaches. On a more positive note the tracking number says they are in the air on their way, WOHOO! Still finding out what the hell is happening with the footrests leaving Japan. I'll email him now.

FIRST TEST DRIVE So I went to take the car for a first drive attempt and realised that the brakes were barely working and therefore still had plenty of air in them damnit. So I bled the front brakes again and again until I thought all the air was out. I also suggest using a rubber mallet to give the calipers a bit of a hit to get the air out of any trapped areas. Trust me, you think you have all the air out but you don't. Just keep working at them. Anyway once they were bled properly and my girlfriend hated me for making her bleed the brakes with me (thanks love!) I went for test drive number 2. It was pretty late at night and not many cars on the road so was a good opportunity to see how they went. Driving out of my suburb I noticed that the pedal had a bit of a different feel to it. The grab point of the brakes was slightly lower down. Which I suppose could be due to the stock GTST master cylinder (something I will look into if need be), however nothing that was bad. After about 10 minutes of driving I was completely used to it. I would prefer it to be higher though so if a master cylinder upgrade would fix that I might go down that road. But like I said, it isn't bad. There was a slight rattle noise from the calipers which I knew straight away was those tubes over the long bolts that lock the brake pads in place. I noticed that they spun freely while putting them together and figured they would make noise. It wasn't that annoying but I think I will just remove those tubes; don't really know why they are needed in the first place. So I got up to a bit of open road, got up to some speed and started bedding the pads in and having a bit of a test out on how they went. I wasn't expecting a huge amount of difference due to my old brake setup being pretty good and really the limiting factor of my setup would be the street tyres (tyres do most of the braking afterall), however I was wrong. As soon as I stood down on the brakes WOW completely different! It's hard to desribe but the pull from the brakes feels heaps, HEAPS stronger than before. Not even jumping on the pedal, simply just squeezing the brakes makes the whole car dig into the ground and you can really feel the front dive under brakes. I wasn't game enough to actually stomp down on them because I knew it would lock the wheels up with ease. I have hit my old brakes hard plenty of times and felt the G-force towards the windscreen, but this was much, much stronger. I honestly wasn't expecting it and did the same thing a few times over, watching how fast the speedo needle went back the other way and listening to the tyres squeeling against the road. Was actually quite fun! There wasn't any shuddering or bad noises just a slight squeel from the new brake pads at extremely low speeds which is expectable. So overall that was a relief. Don't need to make any adjustments on the shims. Even if they were slightly out the brake pads would wear slightly unevenly for the initial period and then be all good after that. Really looking forward to getting some heat into them through the hills to see how far they can be pushed. My old brakes would start fading on high speed down hill runs. Hopefully these bad boys hold out a lot more. Overall very happy, can't wait to try them with some sticky rubber

Awesome guys, glad you could sort it out. Had me stressing for a bit! Daryl replied back and apologies' very much for the slight mix up, he doesn't know how it happened. He is willing to pay the small freight cost via Paypal or something, or if the rear brake group buy goes ahead to take some money off of them for you.

Brake Grade Upgrade For My R33 Gts-T
PM-R33 replied to Tweaky's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Did you guys that went to the Ksport/D2/G4 etc. brakes upgrade the master cylinder at all? -
Lol I just want PSN back damnit. Fucking wankers have to ruin it for the rest of us.
-
I'm just awaiting a price on 5 gear knobs delivered and will set up the group buy after if the price is ok
-
Those have a different accelerator pedal that's all (not 100% sure if that one fits). To put it into perspective the R34 GTR accelerator pedal is double the price of the 350Z accelerator pedal lol.
-
Ah ok. So that's where the mix up was. Hmmm that sucks. I've allready emailed Daryl so I'll see what he says. Any chance you guys can send each other the rotors? Postage shouldn't be that much would it?
-
Yet to drive it yet. Will hopefully today and update.
-
3585 is the part number. I'll email Daryl and see what we can do about this.
-
UPDATE Should have the tracking numbers by the end of the week

Diy: Carbon Fibre S2 Foglight/indicator Surrounds Install
PM-R33 replied to PM-R33's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
Yep sure do. And yep the clear indicators project is a long going battle on these forums lol. -
The caliper will obviously move outwards with bigger rotors. That's what the caliper adaptor does. Your only option would be to fit bigger spacers or buy new wheels.
-
THEY CAN DO THEM IN 10MM!!! Just got an email from them last night! So looks like this will go ahead. Will post up more details as soon as I get them. I get what you mean. Will have to sort something out with the boot. I like that sunken look aswell.
-
As far as I am aware it was a factory option so any year can have it. Just pop the bonnet and have a look if you have a big ABS unit in the top right hand corner with heaps of hard lines going in and out of it.

You are trying to cover like 10 different topics in one thread. Perhaps search in the suspension section if you want answers to questions like that. I understand what you are trying to do, however it really is pointless and isn't going to be used as a reference point in any way. If you wanted to do it properly (and I suggest doing a LOT more research first) write out everything in a word document and then make one large post. Then PM a moderator in the NA section and ask for it to be a sticky.
-
Depends on what you mean by "Aero dynamic efficiency" and on what car you are talking and what you mean by "a lower" car. Will lowering your stock GTS Skyline 1" off the ground make it handle awesome? No.

NA section brings a laugh like always.

Shop Manual Bleed Method
PM-R33 replied to MrStabby's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Hmmm maybe I'll give one a shot next time. The missus absolutely hates helping me bleed the brakes haha. -
Same way as you I believe. It will most likely be the same for all our cars. Have you PM'd the other guys to check about the rotors?
