  1. Funny, couple of year ago I saw a VL on ebay with full GTR drivetrain, reserve of $50K. Laugh my arse off, it still looks like a VL and is just as comfortable on the inside. At the time I had a VL and other than the RB30E & gearbox, the quality of the car (esp. the interior) is poo.
  2. I put K104's on my car and while I haven't had any traction issues I find the fronts are a bit funny with off centre feel. Maybe I was just spoiled with the Dunlop Formula W10's that were on my car when I bought it... they were clearly a few years old and but it felt like the front end was glued to the road. F*ck they were noisy though.
  3. Dunno, how long have they been developing this car... it's been coming for years. I think the front lip needs to be black under the grill like the Evo X. Still it won't matter on a black GTR. How much crap is on the screen on the dash, choose your own gauges
  4. I just got a rim repaired at Extensive Wheel Service in Mile End... crack welded up and wheel re-rolled. Charged me 185. Everyone says they are expensive but the place across the road quoted 250+ and said they can't guarantee it won't crack again.
  5. Your spot on, thats exactly what they do and they don't do it anymore because they get caught in the middle with any disputes. AWR quoted around $250. I'll take it in to Extensive this week and bite the bullet... I'm never gonna find a single Advan TCII for any reasonable money. I'm thinking it might be a good idea to pick up a second hand 17x8 rim just to get around on while I'm waiting for it to be repaired. Anyone got one lying around PM me. Thanks.
  6. Cheers guys, I'll take it to Bob Jane in the morning and see if they can do anything... if they don't want a bar of it I'll take it to Extensive... they're only open Mon-Fri, basically the same time I'm at work. May have to take a morning off to take it in. Space saver wheels are bad, a 125/90R16 where there used to be a 235/45R17, luckily I don't need to drive above 60km/hr anywhere
  7. I spent last weekend up at the river and when I went to leave on Monday morning I discovered my front right completely flat Preparing myself for a 2+ hours drive home on my space saver I discovered my standard wheel brace doesn't fit in my wheels... so I'm somewhere near Swan Reach with a flat tyre and no way of getting my wheel off Fortunately I asked the shack next door (they had boats & stuff) and one of the guys was a mechanic and had a socket set & compressor. We pumped it up and I drove home on it like that, checking air pressure everywhere I could. It went flat the next day so I changed it for the space saver. Looking for a nail or something causing the slow release puncture I found a stress fracture on the inside of the rim. I need some advice, can this be fixed, and who can fix it? If it can't be fixed where the hell am I going to find an Advan TCII 17x8?
  8. A mate of mine bought a Gemi with an SR20 making around 240rwkw. He didn't build it so it didn't cost him heaps (but heaps for a gemi) but it came with $10K+ of receipts for engine internals etc. Words can't describe how dangerous this car is (or is that fun). Brakes and suspension designed in the 70s for a car with around 50kw being driven by more power than most of our skylines. It's so illegal he hasn't even tried to get it registered, every now and again he get a temporary permit to get it to the track. I'd like to put a 1JZ in a TA22 Celica, but I'm not a mechanic. I wouldn't try any of this crazy conversion stuff unless you are a mechanic (or have some close by) Good luck to ya mate
  9. when you get good??? are you using this site on your phone or have you got pretext on your computer
  10. The R33 cup holder isn't movement proof, its got that thing for holding cans but no support at the front. Even under gentle braking I've had it fall out. Boot space is shocking in the 33 for a car it's size, it just fits 2 sets of golf clubs... just. Victim of having the fuel tank between the rear seat and boot.
  11. I know its patronizing, but seriously in suburban streets you should just assume they are everywhere... cause they kinda are.
  12. +1 M&C Doyles Easy going bloke with a genuine interest in Skylines.
  13. I've found I can stop the clicking if I leave the air on face and feet all the time... then it doesn't click when I start the car. It will still click when I turn on the climate control or change the direction of the air, but by then the stereo is on. Bloody annoying but from what I understand its a whole days work removing the entire dash to fix it then put the dash back together. maybe I'll fix it one day... maybe
  14. Oh crap, Cumberland Park is way too close to where I live I've definitely seen the haunts number plates around and thought, thats probably an SAU member. I know of a couple of car break-ins in the area in recent times. A mates mk1 escort was broken into in clapham and my housemates 80's corona was broken into right in front of my house. They were useless and only succeeded in breaking the escorts dash and breaking the corona's CD player. Hate to say this but the timing seems to suggest someone you know, the day after you got your clutch fixed... otherwise it is just painfully unlucky.
  15. To be honest I've been following Marcos Ambrose this season in NASCAR and surprisingly it has got me interested in NASCAR. Ambrose is currently 10th in the Busch series standings and 2nd rookie. He's had a couple of bad rounds the last few weeks but this week they race on the F1 circuit in Montreal and next week is Watkins Glen... a couple of road courses should be good for him. Seriously as a fan of all motorsports I never thought I could ever like NASCAR... dinosaur cars (still with carbies), circle racing, etc. But this year (I have Foxtel) I've found it 10 times more interesting than V8supercars or F1. Still can't watch a whole circle race start to finish but they pass each other so many times on a lap... and they race week in week out. In F1 they qualify in position then spread out over the race with the occasional pass in the pits (last weeks race excluded).
  16. Cheers thanks for that, hadn't heard anything about it in ages. Was hoping these clowns would sort it out.
  17. Dunno about that... on the open road you will. In the city I average around 13L/100 and the worst I get is about 15L/100, and my car is still pretty standard. My last fill was 11.5L/100 with about 300 km of it in the country. Still I'm pretty happy with that as friends with Gen3 V8's are lucky to get 20L/100
  18. In SA dealers have a duty of care 3 month warranty if the car is over a certain price. Must be different in every state. That's why I went to a dealer, I know I paid too much but I did get some peace of mind. (Since found out how much my Advan wheels cost new, so don't feel so bad about the price ) The 33 I bought was the cleanest, most unmolested one I had ever seen as well. I thought about getting a GTR but I knew I wouldn't be able to fix one if it did blow. I read a thread on this site somewhere about engines blown up and they were almost all RB26's... the few RB25's that went were highly modified running very high boost (of course there are always a couple of unlucky people). As much as I wanted a GTR I realised I only needed a sports car, not a race car. My 2c
  19. Just saw these RS2's on ebay in that size. $700 for the four. Set of RS2 on Ebay I'm getting Hankook Ventus Sport K104's put on tomorrow... seemed to be the best value for money for my needs from reading this entire topic.
  20. I recently got my car back from M&C Doyles and I must say I've never been a more satisfied customer. Every time I spoke to Mike I felt confident that my car was in good hands, he drives an R33 himself. He sent parts back because they were sub-standard and he wouldn't put shit parts on my car. He also emailed me pictures of the repairs and parts though out the whole process. Not sure about prices though, insurance paid for my repairs. my 2c
  21. It sounds like you live in the country if you have property to learn to drive on. Get an old RWD datsun/escort/toyota for a few hundred bucks and learn to drive with that. I suppose it depends what state you live in... in SA we can buy and sell any old piece of shit, other states you need to have RWC. Start to drive (Slowly!) on dirt roads (obviously you need a license for public roads), the sooner you understand the principals of oversteer and understeer the safer driver you'll be for the rest of your life. Putting it into drive at 5000 is just stupidity and trashing the car!
  22. I think they changed the laws quite a while back. I too remember the whole "can't get you going down a hill" thing, but they also never used to be able to hide the camera either... looks like they can get you speeding any way they like these days. BTW, if it was a laser gun they have to pull you over and give you the fine on the spot don't they.
  23. The R32 doesn't have a dual boost setup... it allows full boost right through the rev range. Edit: for some reason I thought I was on the last page, but I was on the second last page. (Can you delete posts?)
  24. I couldn't agree more with this statement. You should spend as little time as possible on the wrong side of the road. Does anyone know the true laws governing this? Is "I was passing a truck" a valid excuse for speeding? I think it is, but will it hold up in court? I grew up in a country town so I've done lots of country driving over the years and I am appalled when I see a family car attempt to pass a huge truck without going over the speed limit. Put your foot down or might not survive the pass.
  25. Seriously, can someone proof read and edit the original post! Its silly the amount of contradicting references to the white/black wires. - "Cut the black wire" (BLACK) - "Be sure not to the modify the black one" (WHITE) - "Basically the white wire goes to your new ground" (WHITE) - "the white wire doesn't change." (BLACK) - "tape up the loose end of the black wire" (BLACK) Look, I know the black wire needs to be earthed but the original post should really be sorted out.
