  1. Gday, I'm going to attempt to build an exhaust for my r31. Questions: 1.) Is it better to get straight pipe and do crab bends like the J style intercooler pipes or go to liverpool exhaust or somewhere and buy some bends? As far as I can see the crab might be cheaper and harder to mess up the bends, but take longer (I don't have a band saw, it'd be done with an angle grinder). Also to sand down the weld marks on the inside might make it weaker? 2.) How do you join pipes? Last time I did it I hammered one edge out a little so it would fit over the other part of pipe. Obviously so the bigger one went into the smaller from front to back so the exhaust gasses wouldn't be slowed down too much. Having said that is it better to just have them together without overlap? 3.) How do you weld hangers onto the pipe? I would assume it'd be best only to weld them to flanges, otherwise I'd probably make a hole in the pipe. 4.) What thickness/grade of pipe should I be using? Is there anything I should know about purchasing the right piping? I know I can just walk into the zorst shop but thought I'd ask. 5.) Anyone have tips on design technique? I was going to take the old zorst out and copy it, checking each section as I went on the car. I'd purchase a normal single down/front pipe, then weld a flange to a bit of pipe, attach it take it off, copy the old etc etc etc etc. Anyone have any tips? I think that's it. Thank you. PS great section
  2. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...124619&st=0 for anyone interested.. I wasn't gonna build it but I just kept adding to my thread and now it's a build thread If linking to other things isn't allowed mods feel free to delete.
  3. LOL so true. I wouldn't go either, or atleast I wouldn't do up the pulsar. The SSS stock is probably it, maybe some suspension and be happy, anything else is a waste of money... definately not the r33 NA. Actually on second thoughts.. the NA r33 would have to be the worst skyline evar.
  4. I think the NC are the street or "light trackwork" pad. I used to have them in my cef I believe they're rated up to 350degrees. Never had em fade significantly even under heavy usage (but not circuit abuse). The 800 ones are titan's or HCs or something.
  5. Update. I managed to crack the tie rod end. Stupid thing was so corroded on the inside I had to get my gf's dad to grind the tie rod on each side to give it an edge. After breaking an adjustable spanner and stuffing another had to resort to getting the 30-40kg vice and attaching the tie rod under the car. That finally got it.. only took half a day :\ The good news is though that now the angles are a bit better. Wheels still squeel at each other over 40-50km. Before it was 20-30 Next weekend it will be getting the r32 rack in. That will mean no more dodgy shaved tie rod end and more than 4 threads holding it into the rack. I have to figure out how to customise the power steering lines before the rack can go in. I think I'll go with what the guy at enzed said.. The first is cut the power steering line and crimp on connectors. He said those connectors are good for 40,000 PSI or something stupid - so no worries there. Then use a non-flexing line that goes to the banjo fittings. Can anyone see any problems with this approach? Assuming I get non-flexing lines it should be right shouldn't it? Also, while I'm messing with this - is there any benefit or need to having a power steering cooler? I'm thinkin no, not for an r31 that isn't spending the majority of the time on the track. Any thoughts? Also, I adjusted the front dampening to the hardest setting and the front is no longer bouncey - woohoo!!
  6. Also if it's non standard it'll need to have engineers certificate for the blue slip. It's like rego'ing a car for the first time ever.
  7. The rears buggered it needs what I think are called the rear trailing arm bushes or something.... This thing is stupid now with the coilovers.. it gets stuck going 45 degrees up Sarah's driveway. Chris had to sit on that side of the car to get the wheel on the ground. Spacers are here.. 35mm but the machining seems off. The wheels don't fit onto the outside lip :\ Might have to get more machining done. I dropped the rear this weekend and put in the remaining bolts on the rear top hat (the shop didn't have enough bolts last weekend). Car's been degreased a few times but still seems to leak oil from the head More ever since I did the oil change (it wasn't even 5/40...) I'm keen to get the spacers on and put the flares on so I can start on puttying up the flares in and get the hood thing puttied in too Then maybe you can make a trip to Sydney to help me spray it haha
  8. I wouldn't do this if you wanted to have your car handle well on the street (or even be fast on the track) imo. http://wiki.r31skylineclub.com/index.php?t..._rear_sway_bars If it's a drift bitch then I'd say go for it...
  9. Sometimes it's okay to go A2M. Welcome to SAU!
  10. too_much once told me a technique that works well. Get a garden hose and stick one end near your ear and point it around the manifold.. should be able to hear it real good
  11. I used to drive to Nathan/Grey Imports at Annandale
  12. lol go everyone!! Yeah I was just pissed cos I live 500m from where they moored. I'm a bit tired but cool now. Had to run back up at 11:30 or something to get my car from hyde park.. ha .. Did I go to see it? Shit no... so sorry no pics. lol I saw it docked at at Circular Quay - lol at anyone who had reservations at wildfire/cruise et al. wonder how many keys of coke and hoes made it onto the boat....
  13. Anyway, changed the fronts over the week before last to HSDs I got from replicate. They're a bit bouncy than my liking but I think if I let the spring out with the adjustment, and counter the change in height by changing the base adjustment it will allow the spring more travel which will hopefully better match the dampened ability of the shocks. Am I on the right track there? Also... last weekend finally changed my rears from stock. The difference is a fair bit and yet they're still about 60mm higher than the front O_o Can't wait till it's all adjusted properly .... which will probably take ages. Still need to put in my r32 rack.
  14. The people who went and saw the queen mary or whatever last night can go suck a fat one. Don't daily telegraph sheep Sydneysiders have anything better to do than escape their daily drone than piling into their car to see some ship? People were doing this at the turn of the last century FFS!! (I'm just pissed off cos coming back from baron's house it took me 30 mins to go from the bridge to hyde park, where I had to DITCH my car and run home..). If you were there then I hope you got to swashbuckle!!
  15. I like it. Pity there's no manual. I know it's less efficient and all that but I like the feel of shifting gears/clutching for myself.
  16. Just spotted a black r32 with a fmic - ASP-xxx making it's way through east Sydney. Cute driver
  17. I don't think they look like TE37s other than being white and having the same amount of spokes. Another vote for AVS, but unsure of what model.
  18. Forget the harness - can I get a week or two in your apartment? I have lady friends and that's 20 mins from my hometown (i'll clean up after myself too)
  19. All insurance companies have brokers. JustCars is a broker... it gives you no real significant advantage to have them owned by the actual insurance company apart from the name. Legally they're seperate entities anyway so if Just Cars goes bust it's the same as Ryno going bust - their underwriting insurance company ain't necessarily comin to the rescue.
  20. Hey thanks for the pics! That's been on the agenda for me since I first saw it on JP tv about 5 years ago.... never had a chance to go since then Hopefully in 2008!
  21. So the skyline was in the wrong and the VL was the victim car? I call bullshit. lol. Sorry had to be said... seriously though jerks everywhere.
  22. Thanks for the link. I think watching someone do it and walking through the settings and their effects would be useful. Pity I can't watch over someone's shoulder.
  23. Just something about extra exhaust setups... I'd be wary of the weight, an extra cat and a muffler with some pipe sound like a few kgs.
  24. Rear camber kit or bushes. If you search up sydneykid's posts you'll find something where he talks about using 2 whiteline bushes for it, best solution for the road unless you've excessively lowered the car (in which case you'd have other problems too)..
