I though some of you blokes would be interested that I have just finished some work for Nissan Aust. The will be a heritage display set up at all V8 rounds in the Nissan marquis written by me featuring never seen before photos of Nissan/Datsun cars from 1958 through to 1992 on the track. It is part of a book I am writing about the history of Nissan in Australian motorsports. Couple of picks from 1966 1969 Bluebird and 1973 Datsun 1200 1986 DR30. I have been given exclusive access to the photo library of several famous photographers and the book will have approx 100 never seen Datsun/Nissan racing shots. Cheers

Img In Lidcome?
kitamijin replied to kitamijin's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Thanks for the feedback guys, looks like I'll be taking another trip to have a look at the car again and see what happens from there. -
I'm thinking of getting a car through IMG in Lidcome, Sydney. Andrew Troha or Gavin Chate. Anyone dealt with them before?

Anyone ever used IMG at Lidcome, Andrew Troha? -
G'day, where in Vic are you? I'm in Sydney. Do you have the original wheels and would you sell without the wheels, if so how much? Thanks

Diy Import
kitamijin replied to chrisj's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Mate, you'd be better buying one locally, there are 1000's to chose from at the moment. The money you save getting one from Japan you'll spend on time and mucking around if you do it yourself. Its not like you want a GTR. GTST's are cheap enough here now and you can check it out yourself and go for a test drive, something you can't do if the car is in Japan -
Importing R32 Gtr
kitamijin replied to shepo's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Yeah as beer baron says, its good for a start but you still need someone to check the car for you. If you have someone you can trust to look at a car for you over in Japan then go for it, otherwise be patient and find one locally because I'm sure there are some good ones here. Just looking at how many there are for sale here I don't think it would be hard to find a good 93-94 GTR with about 80-100k kms with books -
Whats A R32 Gtr Veilside Version
kitamijin replied to driftbaby's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Shocking.......leave R32GTR's as they are, they're beautiful as is!!!! -
Yeah, fins on the diff because its a Atesa E-TS Pro active diff or upgraded diff than the standard R33, brakes (brembo) and look for the brake air in-duct from the left front bumper feeding the brake disk, also the front stabiliser measures 22.2mm and rear 26.5mm which I believe are thicker.

If it's untouched with over 100,000k's will probably mean you'll have to spend some money on it sooner or later, so a recent rebuilt one would be OK with rebuilt turbos as well (they don't last forever). As for K's who knows? It's hard enough to know if the k's on the clock are real or not anyway, most imported R32 GTR's here have had a cluster change. If you can find a GTR with books and original cluster would be the best but good luck with imports as the books are hardly ever there.

Importing R32 Gtr
kitamijin replied to shepo's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
I agree on both sides of the story, I lived in Japan for 6 years and I had a R32GTR. My friends all had GTR's as well. I'm looking at buying one locally only because I think the pricing is quite good here now, and I can check the car out myself. Japan has a lot of good R32GTR's but as said above you'll have to pay for them. I speak and read Japanese and I regularly check the car sales online sites in Japan such as goo-net and car sensor; there are a few R32's for sales now up to the $40-50,000 mark. Now if they are paying that much for a good one what kind of condition do you think one that costs $15,000 is in? You can get good ones, but for the cheap prices everyone here seems to think. Also check the the auctions, when a good one comes through the starting bid will always be over 2,000,000 yen ($20,000). Also be aware that most, from experience about 60-70% of R32 GTR's will have accident repairs from little stuff to half cuts. I spoke to my friend in Japan the other day to check a VSpec Vin for me and although the vin was a Vspec he said to watch out for niko ichi, sanko ichi, which means 2 car to 1, or 3 car to one. Lastly, despite what KIRAS says, you can't always get a clean GTR from Japan, I've seen a lot of bodgy cars over there and for sale same as here. Either way, do your homework, have confidence in the car you want to buy and if it meets you price range, get it. Lets put it this way, original k's under 100,000, no accident repairs, usual mods eg exhaust, chip, suspension, good paint, clean interior etc set aside about $25,000. That goes for OZ or Japan. -
I lived in Japan for 6 years from 96 to 2002. Worked as an English teacher for 2 years then opened my own business, I also worked p/t in my friends izakaya, loved every minute if it except for the 6 months of winter. I lived in Kitami, Hokkaido. Came back to Oz to a reverse culture shock, still getting over it now. My wife is from Kitami and we lived with her parents. Had a great relationship with them and had lots of friends. I've got 2 kids also born there. It's a different Japan up in Hokkaido. I had a R32GTR that I bought for the equivalent of about $16,000 in 99, I was in a Skyline club with about 8 others and we went to track days at Tokachi speedway and drag racing. The local tuning shop was called LAB in Kitami and it was brilliant. Been to Tokyo and Osaka and didn't like it very much. Just like Sydney but heaps bigger and busier. I think Sydney has become another city, traffic jams, rude people, shitty weather, crap food, expensive housing. Australia is a good place to live but not Sydney. I like Japanese history, culture and food and I did Kendo for 3 years. I'd like to go back but I think my kids would have a hard time now going to school being halfcasts and they have lost their Japanese, International schools are too expensive. We spend 4-5 weeks a year up in Hokkaido and we are all pretty happy about that.

Couple Pics Of My Dr30
kitamijin replied to benny_blanco's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
I lived in Hokkaido for 6 years and I can say the DR30's up there aren't too bad. There are some shitters sitting in workshops etc but on the whole people really look after them. It's easy to look after them because the availability of parts and good old mechanics who have worked on Skylines all their lives aren't hard to find. You can buy a good DR30RS-X for about A$4-5,000. I've noticed lately though the prices are going up because the DR30 seems to be popular again. -

Yeah, I posted the same photo a few months ago just after coming back from Japan on another DR30 page, you might have seen it there. If the only thing you got problems with are some squeaky shocks then that's great, might be worth looking to get one myself. -
Good cars the old skylines and readily available in Japan. The engines are L20's or S20's on the GTR's. L20's put out about 120hp and the S20's put out 160hp. The L24's mentioned above I think were only for Australia and export, they were never sold in Japan. A lot of Skylines these days have the L28 (162hp) engine taken from the Fairlady Z now because they are stronger than the L20's Although great cars they may be hard to look after here in Australia because of the lack of available parts.

Hey, nice car you got there. I saw a lot of DR30's on Japan earlier in the year and was thinking to get one in because there aren't many in Aust. The $11,000 mark is probably about right. I'm guessing the car is an RS turbo, not an RS-X turbo? You doubt you would get $16,000 considering you could get a pretty good one from Japan for about $10,000. My friend has an early DR30 4 door and he said he would sell it for A$3000. I'll put a pick after. Has your car got the original FJ20DET? How many k's? Where did you get it from? -
