  1. yeah, also watched scarface too many times. and risky business. ok now I want a porsche 928 too. as for you marlin, don't push it!
  2. I know people say standard airbox is the same, but personally i've seen a 400kw car that gained a fair whack of power from removing it on the dyno. they have quite small openings and overall quite small filter surface area so can cause a restriction. easy way to find out. run it up on the dyno and then unbolt airbox and just bolt 2 basic pods to the afms. see what happens. i've never had problems with apexi pods. have used them on mild track cars of less than 300kw, up to 500kw time attack cars. personally if it were my own car and had 400kw i'd be changing to pods. simply because they offer much more surface area and much less flow restriction.
  3. good luck mate. was great to chat again the other day. I'm not surprised how drastically the cam timing changed the engine characteristics. with that much retard in the inlet it's no wonder it was doing some slightly funny things. It must feel pretty crisp and awesome now. I think you'll do pretty bloody well at the 1000M event.
  4. design is good but I'm not sure about the 4 tabs that secure the centre 'box'. they are effectively stopping oil flow around the box. they will kind of act to reduce surge a bit but will also reduce flow in and out of the box. just something to think about. you could always hole saw them so oil can flow through or just cut them down a bit smaller (but could be tough now that it's welded in). otherwise it looks sound.
  5. he's joking mate. it's the baterry cut-off... the cable runs to the external handle. so if you are on fire inside and your fuel pump is still pumping fuel onto you a marshall can run up and disable battery (and thus fuel pump) from outside the car. it's mandatory for circuit cars.
  6. forget sitting in cars for fun. personally I'd prefer to pay to have a "fair lady" sit on my face...
  7. food was actually reported as being many times better than previous years. i didn't eat any though as cyber/voltex had catered lunches and kindly donated some my way. dunno where they got their food from but it was bloody good.
  8. also, given these cars are to retain mostly factory coachwork (and the very name is HEAVY metal) then I think they need to bump up the min weights to give guys a chance of actually making minimum weight. as it stands most skylines with mostly factory bodywork and with cages, dry sump etc will be way over min weight for those capacity classes.
  9. yeah defintiely try and get it changed from post 1995 to post Jan 1993. look at all the skylines on race tracks and then realise that of the serious, regular competitors I reckon at least 80% are R32 GTRs. look at IP, combined touring, even WTAC etc. R32 GTR race cars out number the rest by a massive margin. Even at WTAC there was 2 R34s I know of (1 in Pro 1 in Open) only one or two R33 and probably a dozen ore more R32s. actually I just checked. at WTAC there was 25 skylines entered (inc GTSTs and R35s) our of 100 cars. that's one in 4 cars was a skyline of some sort. about half were R32s, next most popular was the R35s and then only one or 2 each of R33 and R34.
  10. yeah i've never seen it happen before. plus, if you have AFMS it can't happen as those big plastic bits would get trapped by the mesh on the afms. also, you can see this definitely was caused by the filter being crushed which snapped off the plastic arms. but if you are really worried I can show you how to replace the greddy filters with apexi filters. bit of stuffing around though and a tight fit but I like them.
  11. plus guys before you get all excited US fuel octane number is measured differently to ours (they quote an average of RON and MON we just quote RON which reads much higher than MON ratings). their 91 octane (AKI) fuel is somewhere around our 95RON fuel (not quite as good as our 98 RON but nor far off). as for the OP, there is no set formula. you need to tune it for the new fuel and see how much boost and timing it will take before it either stops making more power or it knocks. also why only 12psi? with no more boost you will struggle to get much more power. if it's only for drag runs, wind it up a bit. even just another 3psi of so will give some decent gain.
  12. Meh. R35 is a great car. When I had mine I got plenty of unwanted attention at servos etc but this was 08-09 before the aus models were released. Its fast as he'll but has no where near the drama of even a gallardo (Audi or not their v10 sounds pretty nice). To be honest I'd be just as happy in and old countach (yes I have an 80s coke dealer complex and I also like linen suits), or give me a fcking diablo. That is a super car. I've drive the new gt40 snowy was talking about. Awesome looks, awesome sound but to me it felt a bit sloppy and boat like. Definitely a super car though. I still reckon an old diablo gets more looks than a r35 but who cares? If getting people to look at you is your thing just run around naked... Otherwise buy whatever car YOU like. Personally I want an f40 a diablo, a countach, a testarossa and a miura please (yes I have a 70s complex too).
  13. I will say this. Regardless of whether it was intentional or not (and we have no idea really) glenney showed what a pro he is not to lose his shit. I imagine it would have been sorely tempting to get right up his ass or even pass him out of 9 and give him the "wtf" gesture etc but that would have just compromised his next lap too. He took a deep breath (and probably let a few "fcks" loose), backed off for some room and got back to work. Sadly we don't always see that level of control on the international stage (FIA GT anyone?) well done glenney.
  14. Nice! Does it have new diff ratios or gear ratios? They look good for the track. Looks like he's almost at the top of 6th before braking for t1. With that gearing it looks like it would top out around 300 or even a bit under. Great vid. :-)
  15. Actually I might have the springs ass backwards but the last 3 columns are 1,2or 3 shims.
  16. 1, yep follow the pic. They are used to shim up the pressure valve. 2, the last 3 columns show pressure at rpm points using 1 shim 2 shims or 3 shims. First column is with the weak spring installed, second is both spring then both springs with shims.
  17. Yeah I do. Will post at some point. Only SSE's were gas powered. Cyber put little scissor jacks into the base of theirs. Very clever and cheaper but not as fast/easy to use.
  18. do you leave your car on a turbo timer by any chance??? cause of course the chime doesn't work while engine is still running... try sitting in your car, turn lights on and you should hear the chime. sometimes though I know when I really quickly get out of the car you kind of pull the key as you hop out and don't hear it.
  19. yes I meant scott at insight (as does steve). I can't tell you what to think but people I know whose opinions matter to me rate him as a smart bloke. I've never been a customer of his but I have talked with him about things from time to time. he tunes a number of very successful cars... I would certainly trust him to tune my car (which is a big deal to me).
  20. ratio choice: version 1 1= 2,611 2=1,733 3=1,289 4=1,000 5 =0,752 OR (standard ratios I think?): 1 3,214 2 1,925 3 1,302 4 1,000 5 0,752 They have some optional 5th gear choices too: 5 0,842 5 0,826 5 0,800 version 2 close ratio box is: 1 1,903 2 1,476 3 1,186 4 1,000 5 choice of the 3 above.
  21. you can do a mix of the OS box and AGY bits. DJR81, they have their own double cone synchros. they also do various different close ratio gear sets too just like OS Giken. I have bought and sold a couple over the years. good boxes. they even make a clutch bearing and pivot oiling system too!
  22. yes there are upgraded synchro boxes available. I have one in my 32. made by auto gallery yokohama. it's a good box. i've used it for about 5 years with no drama.
  23. correct. sumis are M12 1.25 brembos are M14 1.5. i put timeserts in my sets to change them back to M12 1.25. even better than heli-coils imo. come in high carbon steel and stainless too.
