thanks Johnny. I think so too. as I said mark had a choice. finish the aero perfectly and totall miss the event, OR do a quick 'mark 1' version and get that thing on the track. he chose the hard option which was get it to the track which meant the aero was not 100% complete (still has more stuff to add which you know about) and was made in fibreglass and made super strong (as we had no spares and couldn't afford it to break). not sure if you lifted the rear diffuser or any of the new bits but they are super heavy. very effective though. unfortunately exhaust heat warped the full flat floor which saw aero go out the window on saturday and no way to get it back meant we were up against it to go any quicker than we already had. with the new turbo set-up (200hp+ more), more refined and lighter aero and some actually testing time the car will go many seconds quicker. I had always wondered how on earth we would ever get the car to do a 1:30. now I honestly don't know where it will end? 1:28? 1:27? even a 1:26???? who knows. but we were second aussie home this year behind garth walden (who I foolishly helped out on friday by translating his aero set-up questions for him to the voltex guys... I got him some good info on the set-up then he went out and beat us! last time I help you Garth! so yeah we are not as far off the front as it might seem and I know Mark wants to win... -

what'd you say? can't hear you my ears still hurting. fking 3 days of loud cars done hearing damage. being at the top end of the garages in #1 didn't help either as cars are still at full noise when they come past us. much better down the other end when they are off the gas and braking for T1. -

also, no way SSE were using teh NAWS. They just don't need it for one thing. they already have anti-lag and a great big turbo on there. if they need more power they just up the boost. I don't think they'd be interested in nos anyway as there is a big trade off in that you have to carry the bottle, lines etc round the whole track but only use it for a quick blast down the straight. they are very weight conscious to the point they don't have airjacks on the car, instead they use clever little pit jacks that go under each wheel (which cyber saw last year and copied for this year!). very clever. if that's not enough I spoke to the cars and personally looked over the car (amazing car) and there's no nos on it. they can't run it in the US comps and can't run it in aus either so why would they? the car definitely had more to give but they actually suffered a gearbox problem in the final session which robbed them of the chance to go for a quicker time. take nothing away from cyber though. those guys are amazing and tarzan is one hell of a pilot. -

it's an apexi RX6 and Apexi gate on the cyber car. not as big as you'd think! tiny compared to most peoples gear. but they are not making that much HP. from memory around 550ps atw. they tuned it at Gas again and takizawa-san told me what it made in kw atw but I can't remember. was in the 300 range. -

I was only personally involved with 1 car running the EFR turbos (John Brights R32) and it certainly didn't have any fail over the race weekend, but he was running lower than normal boost to get the best chance of making it through. SSE were running a 9180 and with pretty substantial boost and I spoke to guys from cosworth and SSE on saturday night and they hadn't had any failures over the weekend. there may have been 1 or 2 other cars running EFRs (EVO's) but I'm not sure. I know Kosta (Tilton/Insight car) told me he had one to replace his current BW S300, and Steve Kakavas I think has tried one or going to try one. but again I don't know for sure. -

hey guys, yeah obviously I can't share everything. we are 'testing' which means stuff happens. anyway, lithium, neither advan/hi-octane RGM car had EFRs on for the weekend. we desperately wanted one on the R34 but ran out of time. we had a few problems (in fact a series of them!) like hold up in customs, run around with courier company etc and basically just ran out of time to do anything other than pinch a turbo off the R33 and stick it on the R34 (the 33 happened to have a T04Z on it). it was down on power compared to both the twin 2860 -10s and compared to the 9180 we had tested which was a shame but it still performed well. The R32 has been running 2860 -5s and we hadn't intended to run anything different. That car got very little development between last year and this year due to a few reasons mainly because everything was focussed heavily on the R34 development. The R32 GTR entered by John Bright (BPG car) was running the twin EFR 6258s and ran well. He was only there on Saturday and a had a few small problems with the car (tyre problem, some suspension issues etc). To try and ensure reliability he ran the car with just 18-20psi (as opposed to the 25+ he'll eventually be running) but the car performed amazingly well considering. It's making more power than it did on the -10s and response is as good as the -5s. Please don't take this as gospel (my memory is full of figures right now) but it's currently making over 500hp atw on 20psi. John was put behind due to all the work involved in converting over to the EFR turbos and problems with supply etc (well documented and discussed in this thread) so didn't get to fit any of his aero gear, nor test the car etc so he put in a HUGE effort just to get there on the Saturday and compete. His tuner Phil (Armour Motorsport)and Mick at Corse Automotive also put in many late nights getting these things sorted. We also got some help from Brett Lloyd at GCG. Which was great as our problems had nothing to do with him. Anyone who saw John's car coming down the straight would not have doubted that is has some good stonk. I took some time out to run down to the exit of Turn 1 and watch him powering out of T1 into T2 and he was very committed and the car looked quick and sounded awesome. It also looked very fast coming out of turn 2 and turn 3 which are slow-ish corner exits. Once the current issues are sorted these turbos will be fantastic. The Full Race BOV covers are nice too and not expensive. I'd recommend anyone using any type of EFR turbo get some as they make the turbo's look much nicer and eliminate any chance of snapping off the nipple. I like the one posted before too, looks very cool in bare alloy but I do prefer the design of the Full Race one as it doesn't have the nipple built on, it has a 1/8th thread cut instead so you can fit either a nipple or -AN fitting and means you can fit a 90degree fitting which is handy on the twin set-ups especially. Anyway, still lots of work to do but things look good so far. SSE were running their EFR 9180 and to the best of my knowledge they were the fastest car on the straight at something around 280km/h. There's no doubt the potential is there. -

what a great few days for aus motorsport. Ian Baker and his guys need a big round of congratulations. just getting guys like Sierra Sierra, Cyber, Scorch, Revolution, Pan Speed etc to come all the way out to Aus was amazing. and it's a credit to how good last year was that so many people have built a new car between last year and this year. They all saw how good it was and thought "damn, I want to get in on that too, let's build a car". So many new cars, 2 brand new big build R35s, lots of new GTR builds, Jamie Cootes S13, John's VQ 300ZX, and a whole bunch of Evos, WRX, Silvias and RX7s. I'm amazed at how many cars actually made it to the track as so many guys were working hard right to the end. With our cars (Advan/Hi-Octane RGM skylines) Mark and all his guys put in massive hours to get both cars running and to the track. Shame the 32 had a problem we couldn't fix in time but Russ drove it bloody hard and got a great time for 13th (1st placed GTR in open) and the R34 was flawless really and were it not for some damage to the aero that meant we couldn't gain any time on saturday (despite better track conditions and dialling in the set-up etc) I've no doubt it would have gone close to getting under the 1:30 mark. As it was it was good enough for 6th place outright (first GTR home in pro and outright) and we know there is a fair bit of time in it to come. Mark drove the wheels off it and I'm sure he's very proud of everyone involved with the car. So many great efforts through the field. It was great to meet people as always. I wish there was more time but invariably race weekends are busy weekends. I didn't even get to talk to Mark Hansen who was 20 meters from us for most of the 3 days until saturday evening... I really hope we have WTAC 2012 and as much as I want to see it go to a new place I can't help but think it was damn near perfect at Eastern Creek and having the same track each year allows us to accurately judge progress against previous efforts and hey it hasn't hurt the popularity of the Japanese event always being held at Tsukuba? Maybe eastern creek has become the new benchmark for time attack cars? Well done to all the guys I know through SAU and elsewhere. Everyone stepped up and really pushed hard for this event. I'm very proud we have such a world class event in Australia. -

nice vid bris. zandvoort is cool. love it. what is it with fkwits binning cool cars that we have booked in europe??? bastards.

well done guys. big effort and fantastic result. I was cringing when it caught fire right outside our pits and even more so when extinguisher after extinguisher was emptied on it. can't blame the fireies. it's not often they get to cut loose so when there's a fire they do tend to get a bit eager with the powder! the car looks fantastic and was a real credit to you all.
-
well done Mark and MM and all your guys. great job getting the car there and nice to talk with you for a bit in the evening Mark even though we shared a pit garage for 3 days! lol. The car really performed and you took it home in 1 piece. can't ask for more than that.
