Guilt-toy In Georgia (former Soviet Union)
Beer Baron replied to Swiper the Fox's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
that is nasty. just imagine how much a restriction it must be to be able to suck itself shut. even if you put a rigid frame in it the restriction it's causing is huge. would be interesting to measure the vacuum in the intake pipe! -

compared to some of the oldies R35s look like play money! hell you can buy a turn-key tarmac evo for the size of one decent servicing/repair bill for some of the classics. they are fun, and sound great but in my experience not cheap. even the old alfas i've built for circuit etc where there is lots of parts for them still cost a truck-load. even more if you want it to be accurate to the period it was built but still be fast. I reckon you are on a good thing with the EVO but will happily talk you into an RX7 cause they are just cool! -

trust me, cock warts are not as great as snowman makes out. I'd take the 2002 instead! -
nah they are pretty good. I'm not sure what you mean by hole in the battery tray? do you mean roadworth issue when people have cut inner guards for intercooler piping? or do you mean rust problems? I had a GTI-R years ago (cost $25-$29K back then!). They are great little cars. I would argue less is more with the GTI-R. don't go too over the top and they are a fun rewarding little car. Fair bit more annoying to work on than a silvia though. MR2's are a pain to work on... but if you are persistent and handy you'll have no problem.
-
not if it's been repaired properly and professionally. the car must meet engineering and roadworth requirements so still stay away from rusty cars etc but a car that's had a typical small accident and then been nicely repaired is not a problem but pls check the repairs properly before bidding/buying. some are great, some are rubbish.

The Graded Bearing Debate ? Please Help Answer
Beer Baron replied to ZimNismoBoy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
yeah like I said $1500 is not expensive when doing a build with top $ parts. look at the price of the other gear and then decide if using a used crank which is potentially bent is worth it? of all the used RB26 cranks i've seen more were bent than those that were straight. I know a number of people who've bought used cranks only to have them checked and find them unusable and then do it again a couple of times before getting a good one. it doesn't take many used cranks or machining bills to get to $1500. anyway for the original poster who wants some advice I will give some of my own experience. fit some aftermarket valve springs. even tomei type A (type B are much better and worth the extra $). that will allow you some headroom if you want to rev and personally I would NEVER fit aftermarket cams with stock springs. secondly, don't use the tomei pump with your stock capacity sump. yes you have it baffled but the tomei pump flows so much more oil than standard if you run high RPM for any decent length of time you are going to pump it dry. even with the 1.2mm restrictor oil will be pumping up many times faster than it can return to the sump. consider fitting a larger sump to cope. the other stuff all sounds fine and good choice on the tomei rods, they are excellent. there's no problem running 500-600hp (engine) on N1 pistons and rings either as long as it's tuned well. if you do want to run some decent power and boost though I'd consider using a tomei 1.2mm gasket (or other MLS gasket but you already have lots of tomei gear so I suggested that one). even buy the tomei gasket kit. it comes with a lot of the other gaskets you'll need. good luck. -

well I probably personally own more GTRs than there are in the whole US! feel free to send me the 8374 kit to try!!! You know about the 9180 car I think? it's a 3L, plenty of fuel, plenty of supporting gear and running on E85. No effort spared on that car. Boost will be as much as the turbo will efficiently run. Probably around 30psi or so? unless it makes masses and masses of power in which case it'll be turned down a bit (would have to be a fair bit for that to happen though!). the twin 6258 car is running E85 too, again plenty of flow in both injector and pump has so far made over 400kw on 2860 -5s and a bit more on the -10s with the current support systems. It has a tough 2.6L and all the supporting gear and we are hoping for 450kw or so out of the 6258s and prepared to work them hard to get it. Comparing both compressor maps and just the basic wheel specs between the 6258s and the -5s and -10s tell me the 6258s should flow as much as -10s, they will be efficient at higher boost levels than either the -5s or -10s and much less prone to surge than the -10s (due to matter size match of compressor and turbine wheel). so basically -10 power without the massive surge zone. so much nicer mid and low range and still a bit hit up top. yep. due to help from BW and Full race with the 9180 etc we'll be giving them feedback on it's performance and I'm sure they will most likely want some of the stuff like dyno sheets to go public. though being a competition car we don't want to give too much away but I'm sure dyno sheets will be forthcoming. Same goes with the 6258 car and yes results for both will be coming fairly soon. like count the time in days or weeks. certainly won't be months as they both have deadlines. and yep, both set-ups are ones which will allow the potential of the turbos to be unleashed. they are both full on track cars so goal is driveable, usable power and lots of it through as wide a band as possible. fingers crossed they both make good numbers indeed! I pushed hard for EFR turbos on both these cars so if they don't work I will have to relocate to arizona and move in at full race as my house will probably get burnt down or they'll make me eat the 9180! -

well nice to meet you then! I think you know who I am?! I know Jon, Geoff, Raffi and Brock at BW but those are the only guys I've really worked with so far (and they have all been good to work with). You must be too important for the likes of me! Anyway, those are just a few preliminary pics (taken in my kitchen) but I'll have some good ones later. Someone in this thread already posted some great pics of the 6258 including with the housings off etc so no need to go nuts. but I don't think anyone has really seen the manifolds for the RB26 tiwn 6258 kit up close and not fitted to the car before. -

well if you need a good 8374 result send me one!!! I have another R32 GTR here that would be perfect for it. currently 350kw with HKS 2530s (inc HKS manifolds, dumps and piping). with built engine. but in other news yes the 9180 is here (and I think I sent you the pics thekeeper?) and even better news the twin 6258 kit arrived last night and is now in my hot little hands. pics to come and results soon. the turbo's are fantastic (looking). if they perform as well as they look I'm sure I'll be bringing in many more kits after this first one. -
the occaisonal popping and banging and the gurgle noise are not a problem. it's usual with a bog bore exhaust. don't sweat it.

I still think replacing the nismo for the 044 is a waste of time and money. direct wire the nismo with a relay and then test the flow (as explained earlier in the thread). no point just upgrading on a hunch and it's very debatable whether the 044 actually is an upgrade over the nismo anyway. In my experience a single nismo pump supports more power than single 044s do.

it's a bit more than that. you need membership of a shooting club, you must be an active shooter in competitions and those competitions must be of the type of firearm you want to buy (ie no good doing shotgun comp when you want a revolver). then you get your gun licence (varying types) then when you want to buy a gun you need the licence to acquire. you also need appropriate security (seperate safe for ammo and firearms etc) if you want to keep it at home or just keep it at the club. there's a few other things too but that's the basics at least in NSW. there are restrictions on what you can/can't have depending on what purposes you want it for and what licence you get. I think it may be a bit more relaxed in QLD.

yep there's an 8374 TS in sydney. not sure on 7670 as I don't know of anyone using one/waiting for one. not sure when you ordered but we ordered and paid for the first 9180 late last year (november from memory). and same goes for the bloke in syd who got his 8374 TS. same goes for the other mate of mine who is getting an 8374 but he's still waiting as of yesterday. but yeah I think they are slowly starting to trickle out. they really do need to start getting more out as without some volume in the market interest will peter out and everyone will just go back to what is easily available. -

lol. you are right but it's funny reading it now. I've known that feeling since 2008 when I got mine!! seems like a lifetime ago now but I do still remember the first time I rode in one, the first time I raced one (was in japan in 2007, release day, in a mates 800hp R34 GTR and we were level pegged by a near stock R35!), the first time I saw one on a race track in person (was Tsukuba 2007, same day as we raced one on the freeway), and of course the first time I drove one. by then I already knew they only had about 290kw at the wheels and the very first thought I had blasting up a winding hill was that to keep up with this car in a R32/33/34 GTR I'd need at least 400kw in a stripped out lightweight GTR and a dogobox at least or even a hollinger. and even then the R35 would pull a length or two at least on every corner exit. and you know what? buy a 32/33/34 GTR, build it to a reliable 400kw add a hollinger, some decent brakes and suspension to make it handle and you've spent almost as much as just buying an R35 GTR... they are a very impressive car. not because of how much power they have but because of how little power they have and how fast they are still.

Hks Gt-Ss Just Off The Dyno At 560 Rwhp
Beer Baron replied to sirimport's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I was going to try on my car. big tomei manis (cost some response but hey there's already plenty of that) the big tomei dumps (allow as much flow in and out) BIG twin 70mm front pipes into 90mm exhaust with no restrictions trust hard pipe kit (and full intercooler pipe kit) ARC intercooler match ported plenumn match ported throttles/spacer head ported for more flow at the expense of a little response (but not an outright laggy drag type head) valve springs to enable more revs cams 260degree 9.15mm in and ex everything match ported (turbo outlet to pipe inlet, turbo flange to mani flange etc etc etc EVERYTHING match ported) built N1 Nur engine and 1.2mm tomei head gasket (built to handle 30psi) I was hoping for 350kw with them absolutely having their necks rung at 2bar. the real question was if they'd still be flowing well at 2bar and what EGT and inlet temps would be like (that's what would dictate max boost. once in temp and egt skyrocket there's no point winding in more boost as you just don't get much more power). I'm sure they'd have handled 25psi fine, but not sure if they'd run with 30psi. but with all the airflow mods etc it would have had the best possible chance. the fact is though they are really a 300-330kw atw set-up.
