Identify These Ap Calipers
Beer Baron replied to gtr fan's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
yep and not being radial mount makes it even less desirable. pain in the arse to make a decent adapter for a lug mount caliper on the rear. the look pretty old and un-loved too. -
yeah the no handbrake is more a lowest common denominator thing and probably not a bad habbit should you one day be driving a car on track that does have a second handbrake calliper or even one that actuates the main brake caliper with a cable (many cars with single sided/sliding calipers have that type). in that case it's not good having the pad clamped against the rotor.

just depends. if the $600 tune is 30-60 mins of work and involves a few power runs, basic cold start and cruise mapping then is it good value vs a $1200 tune which takes 4-5hrs and involves very precise mapping, road tuning for drive ability and economy, dyno for power tuning, etc. I've seen plenty of both types of tune. sadly most were in the 60min variety. but then again does a basic set-up with standard injectors, standard AFM etc really need 5hrs of tuning? possibly not. but I know which tune I think will be better.

that first silver E30 build is amazing. they do some lovely work. nice to know at least when you pay top dollar and get top work. half the time here you pay top dollar and still get rubbish...

holy crap! could you make a few more classes? I don't think it's complicated enough yet, perhaps just one class per person? do like the sound of the 20B R33 though.

yeah I love the FD. they got it right with the last series 8 models. they just look perfect. all I did to mine was carbon mirror panels (covers the little triangle where mirrors are normally mounted). I'd have one again. they are also beautifully balanced and so fun to drive. -

this was spectacular too. complete with 3.2 and nice pearl white paint. also try looking up some pics of the tracy sports time attack NSX. close to the loudest race car I've ever heard! the NA Spoon NSX is awesome too. -

we are on the same page marlin. if i'd seen a nice 02 model NSXR for $75K that was in decent nick I'd probably be going to the bank too... agree as well that it'd need to be a special R34 to make me want it over a nice NSXR. yeah I've driven the manual and it was fking lovely. passenger in the auto and it was rubbish, I was offered a drive and actually didn't want to... very rare for me as i'll drive anything. anyway, all we can do is dream as there are just not many good ones out here. -
Federal 595 Rs-R Pressures/grip Etc
Beer Baron replied to No Crust Racing's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
considering how cheap TPMS kits are these days (around $250 will get you a set of 4 wireless sensors and a display unit) they are worth looking at for anyone half serious about cutting good times. there are also tireliefs. they are a pressure release valve. you set them on the bench for your desired hot pressure. fit them to your tyre valves (or drill a hole in the wheel rim and fit them there) and on track as your pressure grows when it hits the desired pressure the valve will let any excess pressure escape to keep them at your desired set pressure throughout the session. you can even just set your tyres straight away to your desired 'hot' pressure and the tireliefs will start bleeding pressure as the tyre heats. they are a cool idea. -
awesome pics mate. love the old megatron turbo F1 engine.

Tarmac Rallying Perpetual Thread
Beer Baron replied to Marlin's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
lol, and just like some women this particular one has been upside down on the roof of a falcon! d'oh! guess the previous owner forgot about it. but yeah it's a race car. big smashes do happen. would have been nice for the seller to disclose that, but if you didn't ask if it had been smashed you can't blame him for not bringing it up. buyer beware and all that. as the guys say if it's been fixed properly and drives ok chances are it is ok. -
Blown Head Gasket Rb25 Standard Vs Upgrade
Beer Baron replied to ARETHT3's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
you posted asking for advice. listen to it! it's sound. you don't need a fancy MLS gasket. you need to do a few simple things. step 1, find out why it blew a headgasket. they do not just fail due to misalignment of the planets. there has to be something wrong for a headgasket to blow out. step 2, buy VRS kit from nissan or some retailer. justjap have the RB25 kit for $280. http://www.justjap.com/store/product.php?productid=19740&cat=&page=1 that kit includes the headgasket plus all the other little head bits you should be replacing. step 3, remove head and send it off for head service, that includes getting the cross threaded plug hole fixed and anything else it needs. step 4, get block checked and if needed get it machined too (probably get away without it but check it to be sure) step 5, refit the head using the GENUINE NISSAN VRS kit. step 6, ????? step 7, profit -
it's a piece of cake mate. remove the current fuel line between fuel filter and rail. now put on a new shorter line which feeds a Y piece (into the bottom of the Y). to the top of the Y you add 2 new fuel lines, run one to the back of the rail and one to the front. if you are really pedantic try and keep them the same length. then mount the reg on the drivers side strut tower, run a new reg feed from the middle port on the fuel rail, then return from the bottom of the reg into the fuel return line back to tank. easy. can use dash fittings and braided hose if you like, or otherwise just normal hose barbs and 8mm fuel hose with fuel hose clamps is fine too.

yes they are filters and yes you should use one. stops crap getting into the solenoid. should really use one before the map sensor too (internal in the profec BII). so you need to buy 2 inline filters. try and get the genuine trust ones (I think it's trust that are the good ones). some are like 2 cheap discs that re just glued together. the proper ones have the two halves screw together and often seal with an o-ring. the cheap ones easily break apart and leak, the good ones don't. shouldn't be more than about $10-$15 each.

yep, hence the 3L can on my GTR. I asked the same thing, thinking that a 9L sump still has a lot of oil to spew after the 3L can is full but it's something to do with oil getting into the cylinders and getting pumped out by the now dieing engine. plus not many people could fit a catch can as big as their sump! not sure where we'd put 9L cans...

Lets Talk Intercoolers
Beer Baron replied to KAMAKAZ performance's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
yep, 600X300X76 should be fine, providing it's actually a decent core. the quality and usefullness and performance of intercoolers varies wildly. ideally you want an ARC. since they are now out of business that means used. trust ones are not bad, blitz are good, nismo are fantastic (ARC) but cost a lot. probably the best value for your set-up will be a 100mm trust core from a GTR which can be had quite cheap second hand. I'm about to sell mine (replacing it with an ARC) and probably asking around $750 but I've seen them as high as $1200 and as low as $500 for decent ones. -
what do you think of your ZT2? I need a new wideband for one of my GTRs. actually thinking about moving to a ZT2. it does have some nice features for not much more money over the other basic units.

Beer Baron replied to R377's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
yeah i've been in an auto NSX (have only driven manual one though) and have to say it seemed pretty crap. I wouldn't buy one. there's a reason the manuals are $10K-$20K more expensive, they are at least $20K better than an auto that's for sure. plus the manual box in them is a sweet thing. with the auto they are just 100% pose car. you would only ever buy an auto if it was dirt cheap so you could convert it to manual. and yes point of origin (UK/US/Japan/Turkmenistan) doesn't matter. import rules are import rules. you could buy one on mars but it won't change the fact that it's an IMPORT restriction based on them having been sold here that matters. I've wanted one for years too. a mate did buy one in japan and personal import it to aus (and I know of one or two others who did too). one day I'll find a nice 2002 NSX-R and get it here somehow. it has to be the R which has the hand built 3.2L race motor, carbon bits and weighs on 1270kg. fun fact for you. in 2003 honda took a 2002 NSX-R model to the nurburgring which lapped in 7:56 which is faster than the Ferrari 360 Challenege Stradalle (another of my fav cars) which was ferraris gun track day car at the time. that is seriously fast for a car with a 20 year old base design... the original NSX was actually targeted at the 348 and exceeded it's perfomane with better reliability and at a cheaper price. according to wiki the NSX was part of gordon murray's inspiration for the maclaren F1 and became his benchmark (except for power and outright speed), he apparently kept his for 7 years. -

lol, fair enough then, sandy vag will make anyone crunky! Don't get me wrong, I'm not some wanker who thinks fastest car = best car. I appreciate lots of different cars and not all of them are fast at all. and I completely buy into the cred/drama/noise/looks/history/appeal of a ferrari of pretty much any type. I still argue a NSX is a supercar. they may be a bit plain these days but with just a neat set of rims and the right colour and ride height they look pretty dramatic too and pulling up next to anything short of a murcielago they are going to hold their own. find one and force the owner to let you drive it. they are a pretty horny thing to drive. lol, just read my previous post. looks like someone kicked sand in my vag too.... or this one for some good lol. -
those cops are seriously retarded. even after all the stupid stop sticks and barriers and then a van and a bus he still nearly got away. they put the bus in front of him but the van was meters behind giving him a good run up which put his life and theirs in danger and if he'd been able to see which way to turn chances are he would ahve gotten out without a good launch in the right direction. instead of fking about with all that crap all they had to do was put the van right on the rear bumper and the bus right on the front bumper then kick in the window and haul him out. but no, they'd much rather call in 20 cops, 5 vehicles and spend an hour or two pissing about. I did like that typical japanese he's braking the law but still put his left indicator on to exit the curb... lol.

Changing Diff Ratios
Beer Baron replied to bra0063's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
yes it's possible as long as the crown wheel and pinion fit in your diff casing (and fit onto your diff centre). many skyline diffs are interchangable so if your NA R34 has a R200 chances are that yes you could put a different crown wheel and pinion onto your diff. but honestly you may as well get an LSD to go with it.
