thanks steve-o. I farking hate fecesbook and refuse to get on the fking thing. and these days so many organisations are using it to distribute pics and vids etc. pisses me right off!

cologne is actually a fair hike from nurburgring definitely more than an hour. Troy can attest to that. even in an audi or focus doing an average speed of about 180km/h it's still a hike! It will be a bit of a mission on race day I imagine. having said that nurburg is a little hick town in the mountains with nothing much going on after the sun goes down (may be different on a GP weekend though with the big new linder hotel there) so cologne will be more fun in that regard. and I'm guessing at this stage it's probably impossible to get anything in nurburg anyway. hope you are going to try and drive the nordschleiffe? though it will be fking packed for the week before and the week after the GP for sure. i imagine it'll be a mix of full on traffic jams on the track and long closures while they scrape bikers off the armco. you will love it though no matter what.

yeah they are vicous. 34 GTRs are not helical. they are a clutch pack mechanical type LSD. or if v-spec they have an active LSD which is similar but governs the amount of slip using hydraulic pressure in the diff (with an electric pump). best bet is just buy one of the many available mech LSD options out there. there are plenty in the $1000-$1500 range and even cheaper to buy second hand. or use a 32 GTR diff and buy a set of nismo clutch disks for it. should be less than $800 all up and it's as good as a brand new mech LSD.

R34 Gtt Rwd, To Gtr Awd Conversion
Beer Baron replied to godsmind's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
ahh, yeah anti theft. you know if you buy a 34 Power FC it disables the anti theft system? it's actually not very complex but I can see why you'd go that way to avoid it. -
R34 Gtt Rwd, To Gtr Awd Conversion
Beer Baron replied to godsmind's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
you are a legend mate. great project. it's been a popular one over the years as some people quite liked the 34 4door look but wanted GTR driveline in the 4 door body. seems like a good plan to start with a fairly cheap auto R34 sedan and stick in a 34 GTR driveline. why the switch to 32/33 wiring/ecu/ignition etc? just for ease of bits etc? well done mate. you're a brave man to take it on and I'll be the result is lots of fun. -
Hks Ct230R Coming To Australia
Beer Baron replied to Martin HKS's topic in General Automotive Discussion
yeah it's a bit sad it's not running. I mean good work on bringing it out, but if would have been great to go the extra step and compete. I mean static display is ok but you can see that in a magazine. having seen this car in the flesh before at tokyo autosalon and then in real life at tsukuba racing I would say you really need to see it moving to appreciate it fully. seeing it just parked up is not really getting me excited. still having said that, well done for doing something, but I say overcome those hurdles and race it. who cares when they 'retired' it? fact is it's still a fast car by today's standards. -
Craved - Revamp
Beer Baron replied to Craved's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
super cool idea with the usb chargers and the usb plug for the datalogit. lol I can see you are addicted to the dimple punch dies!! you'll be dimple punching everything for a while. it is a cool effect though. -
yeah I agree with the royal purple going black really fast (though it is purple to start with...). I've mainly run it in my RX7 as that's what was reccomended but I didn't rate it that high. much prefer the motul chrono 300v 10W40 for all my road going nissans (currently 2 GTRs and my silvia).

R34 Gtr Build
Beer Baron replied to JEM Dyno's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
looking good mate. -
looks awesome mate. I love it. makes me think my next GTR will be white too. I had a nice white 32 a few years back and always had a bit of a soft spot for them. hope it runs fast like you want it too.

Install R33 Bov On S13 - Considerations?
Beer Baron replied to No Crust Racing's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
yeah the bov outlet must be feeding back in before the turbo but after the AFM. no good doing it post turbo. as far as where to mount the bov? anywhere on the cooler piping is fine really. mounting it post intercooler is a good idea though. so somewhere between cooler outlet and the throttle body. -
Guilt-toy In Georgia (former Soviet Union)
Beer Baron replied to Swiper the Fox's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
lol! d'oh! yeah check what stuff it still has and let me know. -
I would use the magic beans in conjunction with the penis enlarger as they both work just as well as each other. perhaps throw a traffic plate in the mix if results aren't immediately evident. magic bean enlarger would be nice but that's just being silly! if such a device really existed we'd all be beanillionaires by now. on a serious note as I keep saying and as chris also said you cannot LEGALLY (and I stress the word legally) drive an un-complied car on nsw roads. doesn't matter if you use trade plates, traffic plates or the plates off your mums combi van. it's not legal. sure plenty of people still do it using trade plates or whatever but it's not legal and they are risking a fine by doing it.

actually I do have a few trips worth of pics still to post but my home pc (where they are stored) has been out of action for ages. I need to fire it up and then do some re-sizing and uploading. I've been threatening to do it for ages but will get to it soon.

yeah clunk like that is pretty common in clutch pack LSDs. not sure on a shimmed viscous though? but with a proper LSD it's what drj82 described and it can be so bad it feels like the rear subframe is about to fall out. just one of the joys of having a tight mech LSd (and apparently a tight viscous too it seems).

Vq35hr Conversion
Beer Baron replied to T04GTR's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
awesome! yeah me too! AWD VQ will be awesome. ok so can you get a 3.7:1 for the rear easily enough? -
mate it uses the cars factory narrow band sensors for closed loop adjustment under cruise conditions only. for power tuning (and everywhere on the map that is not light load/low tps cruise condition) it does not have ANY closed loop functionality. yes you can connect your WB02 to the datalogit and log and display AFRs against the maps in datalogit. people have been doing this for at least 10 years. it's how pretty much everyone tunes a power FC.

yeah I don't know why people are so afraid to spend $40 on UOA? i've been doing it for nearly 10 years on my GTRs and it tells you everything you need to know. especially if you start when the engine is still good, that way you have a solid baseline and if something starts to go wrong you know straight away. it also helps you set accurate oil change intervals etc.
-
yeah they are definitely not that street happy. I mean you can't just cruise off and whack it into 5th or 6th and cruise. need to shift up and down the gears through every gear which can be tough if crusing in 4th and suddenly have to stop and quickly row back 3 gears. but like most things you would get used to dealing with it. also sucks in carparts as you sit there trying to grab reverse which can be a pain as you have to go into 1st, then into neutral, then into reverse. try doing it 3 times quickly in a 3 point parking manoeuvre! but the joy under full power on the circuit makes them well worth it.

even a trade plate is no longer legal for use on an un-complied car. un-registered = yes. un-complied = no. there is a big difference in the eyes of the RTA now. I believe most states are in line on this point too. the RTA is very clear. you can be fined even for using a legit trade plate for legit purposes if the car is un-complied. hence many importers stopped bothering with trade plates as that was mainly what they used them for, moving un-complied cars from wharf to shop etc. yes in the past I have driven dozens of un-complied cars with trade plates, without trade plates etc. but it's just not legal any more. driving a car for the purposes of gaining REGISTRATION is legal. driving a car for the purposes of getting it COMPLIED is not. as far as 'traffic' plates being 'a few years ago' that's also 100% BS. it's never been a real scheme, or rule. it's just a bullshit urban myth that was believed in by half wits. how on earth anyone would think that putting a piece of cardboard with the word traffic on it would suddenly make their unregistered car legal is beyond me. might as well just try and make it legal using magic beans or a penis enlarger. they both work just as well as the traffic plates.

Bought A R34
Beer Baron replied to MrRx7s3's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
you will almost certainly have to. basically the process is: 1. get all your paperwork from the dealer you bought it from (compliance docs etc) 2. go get blue slip from AVIS 3. buy green slip (need 'establishment green slip) and go get the print out from the insurers office (you must do this, can't use e-green slip for a new rego). 4. go to the RTA office with all of the above (including your invoice for the car), they will process all the stuff then almost certainly tell you you've been picked for a 'random' Vehicle Identity check. 5. book in the VIC for as soon as possible (usually a few weeks wait). 6. do the VIC. 7. go back to RTA, finish rego process. done. -
personally the NA libertys are not that great. either 3L or 2.5L. and the 3L cost a shitload to repair and service. the turbo's on the other hand are great fun. a 2L turbo liberty GT with teh 5speed auto or 5 speed man are great fun. handle nicely, good spread of power etc. very nice interior and great build quality. the older rexx's are a bit suspect these days. I agree though it's a bit unfair to compare evo to wrx. it's really evo to sti and even then evo was a lot more $$ in aus when 6s were sold here new. but we are talking used and the price gap has closed which makes the evo a good choice. but as a daily the evo is not as nice inside as the STI or the liberty GT. evo's are really very basic inside and have a fair bit of NVH and also quite stiff. all things that make them handle well but also make them not such a great daily. but yeah if you are looking WRX i would try and stretch to an STI. or consider a liberty GT (post 04).
