  1. basically the PPG boxes are pretty good but you have to keep up the maintenance. there have been some problems but most of the failures come with people who thought buying a big $$ gearset was as set and forget option. they need to be regularly pulled down, inspected and maintained (replace worn/suspect parts) to keep them running nicely. if you do that they can and do live a happy life. as far as billet centre plate goes yes they are expensive. Didn't think they cost that much. maybe contact PPG direct in aus? cause 2000GBP is over $3000. If the gearset really is 7000GBP + 2,000 for the center plate then it might be worth considering a hollinger. consider that to run the PPG you need to re-use your stock box and there are labour costs to assemble it all (maybe another 1,000GBP). That's now 10,000GBP ($15,000) plus your standard box. For about $20K (or just over these days) you can have a full sequential hollinger which is a full replacement gearbox (not a gearset). so you can sell your old box (maybe 2,000 or 3,000GBP - call it $4,000AUD). so if the hollinger is approx 13,000GBP minus say 2,000 for the sale of your stock getrag you are looking at only 11,000 change over for a brand new full sequential box which are far superior. Any geerset is limited in what it can do because it has to work with a number of stock parts (casing, centre plate, bearings etc). The hollinger is completely redesigned so has none of those limitations. Plus it comes fully built so you don't have to worry about it being assembled properly. I would look into it if you are serious about your GTR. best bit is they are lighter and more compact too...
  2. nice. love the 'ring. every pic I see makes me wish I was back there driving it right now.... soon. wonder what the hybrid sounds like? I'm guessing same as every other GT3 (ie good)?
  3. yeah well you did already say you weren't 100% feeling at home in the 180 after half a year out of it. still very impressive stuff for the aristo, like you said lots more weight, but with softer set-up, more body roll etc it probably hangs on pretty well. and I'm guessing the big 2J has similar power to the 180? around 280hp atw? I imagine with a manual box it would get close to hanging with the 180 out of corners too. makes me wonder sometimes why we bother with all the stuff we do to cars which makes the NVH through the roof, makes them stiff as buggery etc. makes them look more impressive to drive I guess!! lol.
  4. agreed. leave it alone. if 20 out of 22 drivers can manage going over it probably 150 times per race meet and the other 2 go over it 100 times but fk it up once that tells me it's fine as it is. smoothing shit out removes character. sure the tracks have to be driveable but they don't have to be easy. what if they removed what was left of the dipper at bathurst or what about the top of eau rogue where you turn into radillon? that's a crest and car gets light and tries to spit you off. that's what makes tracks interesting.
  5. areed. in the massa (or perez) crash he kept going on about the right rear wheel not being held by the tethers in the crash. I immediately saw it was the left front TYRE that had come flying down (as evidenced by the left front wheel hanging of the car sans tyre) not the right rear wheel and tyre. sure enough when they lifted the car up, 4 wheels attached, only 3 tyres. with all the footage and info they have how do they so constantly stuff things up. he was all excited about pointing out a tether failure which didn't happen. the tyre burst off the rime which was probably more interesting anyway... maybe he feels without murray walker there talking nonsense it's his turn to be the old fool...
  6. yeah I can't remembe the whole spiel and of course it changes based on day/date etc. but basically ohayo gozaimasu, kinyobi ni.... and so on (and depending on day/date etc). you sure the cube does the same thing? as chef said many jdm cars with their ETC (toll pass) readers still fitted give you a "no toll card in the slot" message every start up (even my "old" 2000 Evo 6 RS does it). I don't remember any cubes I've driven doing the good morning/afternoon/evening today is XXXXx message though. but it's possible I guess.
  7. haha, so does mine (well the evo 6RS does). cardo wa arimasen!
  8. Thanks for sharing the pics. Not many people get a good look inside the VR38. we've all seen plenty of RB26s inside and out but the VR is new to many. not many would even know of the 3 timing chain system with exhaust cams driven by small chains off the inlet cams (driven off the crank). it's a cool idea and one of many little things in the new GTR powerplant. the car will be fantastic when it's done.
  9. well put mate. I had a similar situation when they dropped our local roads from 60 to 50 too. about 8 or 9 years ago if memory serves me. of course it was completely arbitrary and designed to do one thing only. create a new group of law breakers that could be fined. To consider that the M2 is an 80km/h zone given it's a fully divided road, has many safety features (no pedestrians, no driveways, not trees or poles, guard rails, smooth merge on and off ramps etc) how can old bells line of road be a 100km/h (or 110km/h I forget) zone? It's a non-divided 2 lane, 2 direction road (one lane each way) with just painted lines between the lanes. The lanes are also narrow. It also goes through residential areas so you have peoples driveways entering onto a 100km/h zone! they must all drive gallardo superleggera's to enable them to get up to 100km/h from their drivway to the road so they don't get mowed down by trucks. There are also pedestrians walking along, shops, trees, poles etc. I would say it's speed limit is possibly a little high, but even then it's not like people are dropping like flies out there. Most people are sensible enough to adjust their speed to what they think is safe. As for the rest of them, well speed limits won't help them anyway. Given these inconsistencies and blatant oversights I have no problem with setting my own safe speed. Neither should any other competent driver. providing they still drive appropriately (signal lane changes, keep left when not overtaking, are alert) I don't have a problem at all.
  10. I can't deny that. certainly sounds JDM when you hop in in the morning and the on board computer says ohayo gozaimasu and then tells you the date and time in a nice female japanese voice. certainly no aussie spec car does that.....
  11. this is my band, sexual chocolate! it looks super fly!
  12. ok, so progress is moving slowly.... lol I just assumed being 12mth down the track it had been doneski. fair enough. carry on.
  13. snowy, if you forget your tips they put down the top 10 qualy positions as your top 10. but I think they only do it once for you. so you'll have only missed 1 round.
  14. nice vid mate! nice driving too. That blue datto(?) sure had some grunt in a straight line. your thing looked great underbrakes and well balanced through the 3rd gear stuff but he had some serious tow down those straights and quicker stuff but then it looked like he ran out of tyre grip (or maybe concentration) towards then end and couldn't keep you behind anymore. looks like you picked up a bit of pace once past him too. car sounds great and looked nicely set-up too. well done.
  15. very interesting. it looks like the 180 gets it's power down very well or just has a more punch set-up (I guess the manual vs auto would help too out of corners) as it gets a big speed advantage out of corners which it then maintains up through the gears. the aristo doesn't seem to give much away though in outright top speed and I guess peak G is not too surprising given both on the same tyres. it's interesting sometimes how quick a near standard car can go. makes you wonder how many of the mods we do are sending us backwards not fowards. there is a lot to be said for small improvements on factory engineering not wholesale changes. good steering too.
  16. thank god you said it wht510. I was too tired to argue with this bloke. but GTRpowa feel free to take everything wht510 said as from me too. as for pissing on the law. it's called civil disobedience. many countries have laws that are unjust or oppressive. If i don't believe in a law, or rather believe it to be unfair or unjust, I am an adult and can chose to disobey. yes I have to be aware of the consequences of my actions but the fact that I can drive safely and legally on an autobahn in Germany at 220 yet in NSW on a paid motorway that has a divided carriageway (and numerous safety features to reduce the possibility of head on and T-bone/side impact accidents), I am limited to as low as 60km/h in spots (m2 motorway) tells me there is something wrong with our speed limits. you can pontificate all you want with your theoretical scenarios but the fact is the OP didn't injure anyone. he didn't have an accident. noting happened at all. so what about his actions was reckless or unsafe? Tell me what happened that warrants such a severe penalty? my point (which you seemed to miss) was that in many cases of traffic infringement enforcement the punishment does not fit the crime. all your theoretical examples about a kid being killed at a bus stop etc are just that. theoretical. a kid was assaulted the other day in sydney, stabbed and thrown onto train tracks and died. should I tell me kid to never catch the train too? maybe tell him never go outside? or never get out of bed? life is full of risks. even more finely, life is full of calculated risks. speeding is a calculated risk, and yes it does make a difference where you are, what the weather is like, what the traffic is like, what knowledge you have of this piece of road, what car you are in, how well you know that car, what your current physical condition is and many other factors play a part. intelligent humans can asses all those things in a matter of seconds (or less) and make a calculated decision about what speed THEY feel comfortable driving at. I don't need to be a 'bad ass pro driver' to be able to accurately asses road conditions and the level of active and passive safety features in my vehicle and then determine a reasonably safe speed for me to travel at. I would hope most people with more than 10 yeas driving experience could too. but now you are pushing me into arguments I wasn't making. my argument was simple. We have a draconian approach to traffic fine enforcement in this country. it's all about raising money, not at all about safety. with those things in mind i have no problem with what happened hear. No, actually I do have a problem. The OP was treated far too harshly and penalised far too severely for my liking. Yes he broke the law and I would think a fine in the order of $100 would cover it nicely. Many other countries would agree with me. Go and look up what a speeding fine costs you in some european countries. I've had one that was a whopping 15eu... I felt it was fair and paid it gladly.
  17. nice one mate. glad the 08 gave you a taste for these new fangled GTRs and that you've moved on to the new kid. Very interesting to hear your thoughts on the power. be interesting to see waht a stock 11 makes at the wheels. JDMs seemed to be anywhere from 270kw up to 290kw (few quoted 300kw) stock and I'm guessing with tune and midpipe your old JDM was something north of 320kw? Good to see they have made incremental improvements in stuff like interior. As they were certainly areas that did have some room for improvement. post some pics mate. I want to see the new colour too. I know you have had a soft spot for the blues. maybe I will end up back in a 35 one day..... it's getting tempting again as they are getting better and better all the time. and support is now huge.
  18. that sucks mate. I can't stand arseholes who damage peoples cars and then act like they didn't notice and just drive off. I would want someone to leave me a note just as I would leave a note if I damaged someone else's car. It's not a big bloody deal. just the right thing to do if you damage someone else's property. even more so if it's a nice car which usually belongs to an enthusiast who takes pride in his/her car.
  19. you could say he's bending over backwards for you on this job.....
  20. a plug is the same as the part effectively. it's the mould that is used to produce the parts. you make plug, then mould, then part.
  21. awesome build guys. so many nice features on the car, I have to say I LOVED the first colour scheme with the silver/stripes look. very cool. love the side stripe that starts from the front guard vent. very cool build and good to see you out there piloting the thing Slip. it's a beautiful car.
  22. yeah I currently have tomei pistons in my car and as I said (and piggaz said) they are so quiet. you would not know the car had forgies and they are strong as they come. not cheap, but a pretty critical component so I don't mind spending a bit on pistons.
  23. I think you'll be fine with the eagles. I wouldn't change them just for the sake of it. sure there are better rods. I'm not sure any aftermarket rod has a life of 100,000kms on a modified engine. more important will be how the engine is built, how it's tuned and then how it's maintained. that stuff will determine how long it lives. not the rod brand.
  24. compliance in NSW for your 33 approx $2500 mate. 770hp is noice in a patrol. still not quite my cup of tea but they are nuts. hey, E85 is 'pump gas' these days and plenty of power to be made on that.
  25. what I want to know is how did your upgrade go zebra? did the TD06 make the power you wanted on the 1jz?
