World Time Attack Challenge 2011

for clubsprint I would recommend looking at the dunlop Z1 star spec. I currently have AD07s on one of my 32s and AD08s on the other and the dunlops on the evo and they were fantastic and wakefield. for a street tyre they handle track use very well. very progressive at the limit, surprising high level of grip and of course good feel through stiff construction (all the premium tyres have that thouh, RT615, AD08, RE01R etc). -

not driven at EC since last year. still got the S13 but now also got another GTR and the evo VI RS for track stuff. going to sell S13 shortly. I just want one track car really. been playing with bikes a bit again and want to buy another bike, maybe a ducati 848 or even just a R6 or something. -

I think GG is the softest? or is it GGG? I forget. anyway, yeah they are ok. but for outright pace they don't hang with RE55, DZ01G, A050. especially noticeable on heavier and more powerful cars. on small light stuff (talking sub 1000kg and less than 220hp) they seem to be good. like little alfas, really light civics etc. not sure what your E30 weighs but you may be better off buying one of the big 3 mentioned above if you haven't bought tyres yet. depends how serious you want to get really. -
lol, I wasn't sure anyone would get the reference if I didn't annotate it. hey mang, who put this thing together? me! that's who.

not seton is it? he is a gun and from what I've seen since his V8 retirement can still drive a car bloody well and gives great feedback on set-up etc. I saw him a few years ago driving kerry baileys sports sedan at oran park GP and he was not giving away anthing in time to the regular SS guys. would love to see skaife in it. probably my favourite driver in aus motorsport. there's lots of guys around who I reckon would be good. dean canto could be an option. nice guy and good steerer. but there is dozens of guys who'd be suitable. glad to hear you are going to drive it anyway. you'll love it mate. maybe even scrap the hired gun driver and use all the available time perfecting your lines at the new track.

agree with that too. I see some apalling driving behaviour on a daily basis that is often downright dangerous and yet much of it would not be classed as illegal and even the bits that would be illegal are never enforced as it's far easier to set up a camera and just pinch everyone who has a brain and decides to drive their car at a speed they think is suitable for the vehicle performance, road condition, weather condition and their driving ability. an alert, capable driver in an R35 GTR doing 100km/h in a 60 zone worries me much less than the inattentive fckwit in the 30yo ford laser with re-treads who has no idea what is going on around them and is likely to change lanes without warning into my path and knock me off my motorbike. but they are not clearly braking the law so they will never be pulled up. even once they do change langes into someone and injure them the worst they will get is a small fine but in 90% of cases it will most likely be nothing.
-
get a grip. so if you were driving at the speed limit and caused an accident that took a life what is your answer then? not my fault as I was obeying the law? the fact is he didn't hurt or kill anyone so your hypothetical is pointless. you could kill someone reversing out of your driveway at 5km/h with all due care and attention. accidents happen. very few of them are caused by excessive speed yet that is what we are most often fined for. many more accidents are caused by poor road or weather conditions, or driver in-attention (big one), driver fatigue, poor vehicle maintenance, poor vehicle condition etc. speed is noted 'as a factor' in nearly all accidents but it is rarely the cause of an accident. me too. as I said above you can physically assualt someone and most likely receive nothing more than court costs of ~$70 and a good behaviour bond that basically just says you must obey the law or get into trouble... um isn't everyone supposed to obey the law anyway? I fail to see how it's any punishment at all. especially without a suspended sentence hanging over it. most times even if you breached the bond you'll just get it extended. might even get that twice. the justice system in this country is way out of whack. you broke a speed limit. no one was hurt or even inconvenienced by your actions yet you've had to pay thousands of dollars, had damage done to your reputation in your community and now have restrictions placed on when and why you can drive a vehicle (that you pay thousands in fees to keep on the road legally). motorist get targetted like this because we are mostly otherwise law abiding citizens, we have jobs and as such can't afford to sit around all day pontificating about the unfairness of it all so we just keep quiet, pay the fines and try and move on. the bludgers with no jobs who would seek to bash and rob us have all the time in the world to grind through the legal system (again at our - taxpayers - expense) and await some limp wristed 'punishment' before they go back to committing some more petty crime.

Differences Between R33 And R34 Rb26 Engines?
Beer Baron replied to Bozz's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
yeah that's about right. sampling rates are massively improved. hence why just sticking the ets pro into a regular 33/34 gives a noticeable improvement on the track. you'd be hard pressed to tell on the street though (between regular 33/34 and ets pro that is). -
yeah just buy the ecu. best thing you will buy.
-
hey mang, I'd give you a wristie for fun, but for a drive i gonna stroke it up real nice... (/scarface reference). yeah, tank size varies a bit, but there is only a few common sizes really. there is a bit of room in the band type ones too for accommodating a tank that is a bit larger or a bit smaller too. you just need to ask radical what OD the dry sump tank is going to be and then find one that matches. should be a piece of cake.
-
dane, that one I pictured is on ebay right now for $129 USD. could have it here for well under $200AUD. sell the tank for $100 AUD and you've got a heater sorted for $100. so does this earn me a drive or what???? link http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NASCAR-ALUMINUM-DRY-SUMP-OIL-TANK-W-HEATERS-PETERSON-/360367863724?pt=Race_Car_Parts&hash=item53e79937ac
-
yeah for the cost of buying a dry sump tank with heater (around $200 AUD landed) I would do that and tax the heater off it. they are simple power and ground wire though you may need some kind of controller to cycle it on/off (not sure). most likely all you'd need to do is put a female plug on the two wires and mount it neatly somewhere on the body work. when you want to warm it up just have a 12V battery with the matching male plug on some wire and just plug the battery into the plug on the bodywork. let it run for whatever time is needed and you're done. weight would be bugger all (maybe 500gms max) and it would be easy to use. still not sure if it's [i[really[/i] needed or not though. but it certainly doesn't hurt things. I'd do it.

due to a complaint from another user I've had to remove some derogatory posts from this thread. I don't like being heavy handed but some posts did break the rules and those have been removed. the rest of the thread stays (for the time being) as it has some interesting discussion and information that people may want to read. no one is getting any bannings or warnings as I don't think there was any malice behind things.
-
it's fairly simple for a dry sump. you get an oil pre-heater inside the oil tank, or the ones that wrap around the tank (some look like the nitrous bottle warmers some are more like a band or multiple bands around the bottom of the tank). all types work a bit differently and some better than others. the really small elements like a kettle type thing are not so good, I think the wrap around bands seem to work a bit quicker. many of the brand name dry sump oil tanks come with heaters in them or on them as an option. hell you can buy a petersen dry sump tank with the heater on it for less than $200 from the US. keep the heater and toss or sell the tank. easy. here's a pic of the band type ones.

Compliance, How Long?
Beer Baron replied to ishan's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
personally I tell people 4 weeks. gov turn around on paperwork and also nidrie's turnaround on providing plates are both highly variable. so yeah as quick as 2 weeks as long as 4 should be about right. I know it's hard but try not to call the poor buggers every day to ask how it's going. believe me as soon as it's ready they'll call you. they do want to get paid after all. -
having owned every model GTR from 32-35 I can tell you the difference between say 80km/h and 120km/h in a R35 is merely a second or two more on the throttle and a barely perceptible increase in speed. without driving with your eyes glued to the speedo (which I'd argue is far more dangerous than 'speeding') I would challenge anyone to sit in the car, let me accelerate for a period then tell me what top speed I hit. in a car with 500hp, masses of torque, smooth DSG box etc and good levels of NVH it's very easy to break the speed limits. in an tuned R32 or R33 or R34 you'll hear the gates crack, the thing starts to scream, you have to consciously shift gears etc there is a lot more fanfare going on to tell you you are being a naughty boy. anyway, who's to say the speed limit itself is fair? it's possible been set arbitrarily by someone who has no idea about that actual piece of road. Richard broke the law. he admitted it, took steps to show his remorse and was given an appropriate penalty. in no way has he gotten off scot free. he's had to pay massive fine, court costs and legal fees not to mention the embarrassment of having to get references from people who respect him. for god's sake how much more does the bloke deserve for putting his foot down to overtake an annoying motorist? some gaol time? a flogging? give me a break. his crime did not affect ANYONE. there was no victim. no damage to property. no ones liberty was impacted. People commit assaults all the time and walk away with good behaviour bonds and court costs (less than $70). So I'd say if anything the punishment Richard received was far too severe. Peopel should be surprised he's taken it so well. as in no way is it fair in my eyes. I think he's been treated harshly. And I believe it does matter where the offence occurred and in what conditions and what vehicle he was driving. those things do count.

Cams Supersprint Championship
Beer Baron replied to PSI Parts's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
yeah inside wall at T1 is a doosy. russ went in there in the 32 for a big one. my mate rob wrote off the GT3 cup car there too. all the big acco's i've seen at EC are inside wall T1. saw an A1 GP car crash there and just about drill through the wall into the infield he hit it that hard (they are flat through T1 at around 250km/h+). it's a nasty spot to fk up... -
Sergio Perez in australia for one. thanks mr smarty pants..... who gives a rats arse anyway? even if I was wrong and we are talking 2-4 stops (or is it 2-5 stops now?) the point was different numbers of stops between different drivers can make the race tough for people to follow at points in the race.
-
sadly yes it does sail close to the rules. they are not about what's fair or about preserving free speech. they are purely in place to protect this forums (private) owner from law suits and claims of libel being posted on his forum. it has happened in the past and some businesses take it very seriously and can be highly litigious. it does seem a bit harsh but that's the way it is. having said that I'm pretty sure kutok posted that remark as the thread wasn't going the way he liked. and given no other complaints to date I'm inclined to leave this thread be for now. edit: on second thought I did 'lightly' moderate your thread title and 1 word in your post to tone it down a touch. basic gist of things is intact and the thread can stay as a discussion for now.

yeah I'm with marlin. I only even ran the stuff when I got scraps cheap/free when we were running the porsche GT3 cup car. and same goes in the alfa. I think these days the elf LMS is up around $8+ per litre. even when we got it for $5.50 rob's fuel bill for a weekends racing was astronomical. E85 is the only real viable solution. well actually there is one other. avgas. if you get your car log-booked you can get a fuel passport and can then buy avgas for your car. last time I bought it (they sell it at eastern creek from a tanker) it was $2.50 per litre (from memory). much more reasonable and good gain over 98RON.

Differences Between R33 And R34 Rb26 Engines?
Beer Baron replied to Bozz's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
heaps of difference. 34 ATTESA ECU has much higher sampling rate than 32 does. possibly has improved logic too but the sampling rate improvement alone is significant. on top of that the ETS pro from the VS II/N1 etc R34s is better again. especially noticeable in a circuit car. also 34 (and 33 for that matter) ATTESA is set to keep some pressure in the transfer case all the time which makes it seem more responsive/quicker acting too. -
Top RB20 Club... do you have over 260rwkw?
Beer Baron replied to RBsileighty's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
nice vid bris. love to see you out there mate. we both need to do someting about seats. I notice both mine and your seats move around A LOT in the top half. short of tagging the thing to the main hoop of the cage what can we do to stifen the buggers? It may also be our awesome physiques? looks like you've got the radcam dialed in nicely now too. fking thing. -
yeah for your goals the only thing a bigger intercooler will do is restrict air flow to your radiator and make your car run hotter. if anything I'd be sticking with a cooler that is factory width and height but get one 70 or 80mm thick (no thicker than that). but yeah stock GTR cooler is perfectly fine for 300kw.
