Nistune Chip Or Spend Extra For Pfc?
Beer Baron replied to Pearsy17's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
honestly if I put you in a car with a nistune tuned at workshop A, then swapped it for a PFC also tuned by workshop A you'd be hard pressed to tell any difference. if tuned by the same tuner they will both get the same results. the biggest difference is in the tuners not whether you've got PFC or nistune. In my silvia I've run PFC AND nistune and found no difference between them at all really. well the hand controller. that's about it. -
i agree. given the labour costs involved in turbo swaps I would probably sell the LMS turbs and get a set of HKS GT-SS or some garret equivelants, or even some R34 N1s. they are all great options (and all very similar).

if justjap are still happy for you to exchange your pump I would exchange it for a nismo pump. it's a much better match for your 750cc injectors and are super reliable and very easy to install (you could do it yourself or any workshop should do it in 20mins or less). seriously. the fuel pump is the heart of your car. if it fails, you car fails..... nismo pumps are expensive but flow exactly what they claim to and are super reliable.

Personal Imports Choices
Beer Baron replied to shibuya's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
and yes you do have to pay import duty, GST and LCT (if car value inc shipping etc is over $57,000, or there abouts). So most likely you'll be up for just duty and GST. also any LCT is 25% but only on the portion of the value that is over the LCT threshold. -
spoil it for me and i keel you. I'm hoping schumi can get up but I don't think he'll make it. the 98 maclarnes are so far (first car with newey as designer after he left williams in 97) ahead of the rest it's not funny. and the bridgestone tyres have smashed the goodyears on anything except for the wet at spa. but fk schumi could drive back then. irvine is lucky to be mid of the top 10 where as schumi is pushing hard for wins now at most races. come on old son. ps if you not spoil for me it I give you copy when you're down next.

yeah I agree. about .5-1sec is what it felt like to me. it had been more than 18mth since I'd been there! car looks good.

great vid mate. the silvia looks great and nice driving too. nice of you to find your hole in the fence and exit the way you entered lol. car looks very settled on the mca's. is it turbo or NA (had the sound down at work!)? -
me I don't care. I'm still watching 1998 season. last race was belgium GP. kick ass race. the race before was silverstone where schumi clinched the win and served his drive through penalty after the chequered flag! gold. then we went to germany where schumi was again closing on the maclarens (all maclaren front row so far for the 13 races of season 1998). and last race at SPA was crazy. it was wet and coulthard the retard spun off the start and caused a 10 car pile up at the exit of la source. basically only schumi, hakki and hill escaped but this being 1998 all the crashed losers just ran back and hoped in their spare cars. so we line up again with only 3 of the 10 crashed drivers not making the re-start. this time hakki loops it again on the exit of la source but only 2-3 cars in this one so the race keeps going. schumi starts out after vilenueve and get him in 1-2 laps, then irvine gracefully steps out of his way. now it's just coulthard and hill ahead of him, he gets the 'thard easy enough as he's a massive 2 seconds quicker than coulthard who in his super maclaren is 2 seconds quicker than anybody else (making schumi 4 seconds quicker than anyone in the wet). it's partly due to the fact that the goodyears schumi has are heaps better in the wet than the bridgestones (which have been superior in the dry at nearly all tracks). so schumi gets up to his 1996 sparring partner of hill and promptly cruises past. the next 20-30 laps see shcumi an absolute machine in the wet. until he comes up to Lap coulthard. following in DC's spray DC suddenly decides to lift off which at that speed sends schumi straight up his arse turning his 4 wheel ferrari into a 3 wheeled ferrari. schumi makes it back to the pits and try's to punch DC's lights out but gets pulled off by jean todt and others. it turns out they'd asked DC to let shcumi by but in the process he fked things up good. hungary next. the WDC is in the balance with hakkinen still just in front of schumi (who would have taken the lead if not taken out by DC). regardless of the result (bloody hill won in his jordan) schumi drove a bloody amazing race at Spa. it's probably my favourite track and having driven there in the dry and on a partially wet track I don't know how schumi could drive so fast there in the wet. so yeah, who cares about 2011. 1998 is much more enjoyable and I can't remember who wins WDC that season so it'll be a surprise when I get there. plus they have webber as guest commentator a few times that year. good value. he looks like a kid!

32 GTR are no good on dirt/gravel. few reasons. too much weight up front for starters means big understeer on loose stuff. too much weight overall hurts them too. not enough suspension travel and not enough FWD action (very rwd biased ets in 32s) but that can be fixed to a degree. but basically they are too heavy and class eligibility with a 2.6TT is a problem too. you'd only even be eligible for outright in any comp if anything. 32 GTST or silvia is a much better proposition if you want nissan on dirt. there's a few good gravel silvias getting around both NA and turbs. personally I think the cordia will be pretty crap. I'd buy something like an excel or hell I could sell/give you my dad's old daihatsu applause. it's a 1.6, injected, 5 speed and they are pretty light. would be a better start I reckon. you want something that's fairly light, with a punchy engine and 5 speed box, also preferably something you can get an LSD for at some point. you also want it to be reliable as can be. cordia is none of those things!

dude, of that bunch (i've driven all 4) the GT3 for $850 is the best fun and the best value by far... do it!! you'll have a ball. great 25th splash out for sure.

mate, if I wasn't engaged we could get hitched. just think. forget double the wardrobe! double the garage!!! plus we are both tall bastards so all our cars would have nice low seats for headroom and legroom. E30M3, few GTRs, your radical. match made in heaven. you pitcher or catcher? lol. -
lol, well I will admit there are some good 'combos' out there in all flavours. they can backfire badly though too...

R32 Gtr Trust Power Extreme Ti
Beer Baron replied to gwin's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
baargin. they are nicely made and super light. full titanium including the mufflers. and this one is more expensive than the 'race' spec ones as the race ones don't have the big resonator/muffler in them (hence cheaper to make). good price. -
Guilt-toy In Georgia (former Soviet Union)
Beer Baron replied to Swiper the Fox's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
yeah there is no way it's a 3:2 diff. that would give you about 150km/h+ in first gear!! top speed would be like 500km/h... 32 GTR is 4.111:1 which is pretty good. 33 GTR is the same. 34 GTR is different (due to 6 speed getrag box) and is like 3.5:1 from memory. still miles away from 3:2 (1.5:1). I can't remember what 33 GTST is but it's either 4.111:1 or 4.375:1 (not a massive difference between them but it is noticeable). maybe yours has a 34 GTR diff ratio in it but I've no idea why anyone would do that. they are horrible with a 32/33 box. even with a 34 getrag they are a little tall for my liking. best bet is pull it out and see what it is. ratio will be stamped on it, or at wortst count the teeth on crown wheel and pinion and divide to get the ratio (eg 4.375:1 diff has 35 teeth on crownwheel and 8 on pinion making it 35:8 which is 4.375:1) 32 GTR should be 37:9 - 4.111:1. -

Rb26/30 Build, Yet Another One... ;)
Beer Baron replied to Simonster's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I'm not arguing with anyone. I don't think anyone is arguing? it's just a simple discussion and I think many people would agree RB30 is not the be all, end all of RB engine development. Depending on what you want to use your car for there may be better options out there. as I said above I don't dispute the RB30 has advantages over a similar spec RB26, but people forget there are some negatives too and in certain conditions the RB26 may have some advantages of it's own. if that weren't true everyone would be running 6L engines by now. there is so much more to engine behaviour than just it's capacity. stuff like rod/stroke ratio, harmonics, piston speeds, rod length, bore/stroke ratio all make up an engines characteristics. I'm not saying RB30s are no good. they make for a great engine and get fantastic results especially with larger twins and singles that are otherwise not good packages on a 26. but at the same time there are plenty of good 26 packages out there too. -
as far as going cams to get response I don't reckon it'll work. cam gear tuning yeah, but new cams I think will only shift the powerband higher again unless you stick with the same or less duration which I think is probably a waste of time too. cam gear tuning might help solve the current deficiency.

I reckon flog the 6boost mani (should be easy, plenty of market for them), flog the turbosmart gate. refit the trust mani and trust gate (both of which worked perfectly with teh trust turbs). then look at going back to a stock plenum. for response it will be hard to beat. and it did sound pretty sexual too.

Rb26/30 Build, Yet Another One... ;)
Beer Baron replied to Simonster's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
yeah I agree. it does come down to preference and you're right that can both be made to do similar things. having said that they do each have some basic 'characteristics' that set them apart. I think your assessment is pretty right too. For a street car a 30 makes a lot of sense. they do make the faster road car. I mean we are not spending much time above 5,500rpm on the street and that's where the 26 shines. the 30 shines in that range up to 5,000or 6,000rpm. and of course there are bad RB30s our there and bad 26s too. many people doing 30s seem to be on a tighter budget so we haven't seen as many 'maximum effort' RB30s as we have RB26s. I still love my 26s though and not sure I'd have a 30. I would consider one for a road car with the odd weekend trackday thrown in for sure. but I just love the howl of the 26 and that certainly does get lost in the 30 somehow. -

yeah i've no doubt on the cost to build a GTST like that. but it's just what the market will bear. I mean no way are any of us going to get back $100K spent on a big GTR, lucky to get $30K-$40K for one let alone $26K for a GTST with 185kw, a cage and some chinese 17inch wheels (simplification I know). -

nice car but the black one for $14K was an ok price, this one for $26K is a bit harsh. the black one looked like a decent buy I think. like you said it would make a good base.
