yeah they are good but like dave said the jap stuff is not just pretty packaging. the tomei pistons in my engine are so quiet you wouldn't know it's forged. zero piston slap even when stone cold and they can handle plenty of power like any other piston. I do agree they are not the best value though being quite expensive compared to other chinese and US options but there are certainly not a waste of money.
-
the problem was you got a late model 32 cluster for an early model 32. they are different between years. and you can't just swap the speedo's between them as in is the 320kph and one is the 180kph so it won't work obviously.

if you want this to be 'hard revving' you will need: valve springs (singles ok, but doubles much better if you can afford them) while your doing them get some baby cams to open the engine up a bit at high rpm and get the valve clearances set too (important if you want to spin it hard) get a good balancer. N1 balancer is a minimum, ATS or Ross is better still get the basic rods/pistons/bearings kit like t04GTR mentioned above, and get them weight balanced too fit a small oil feed restrictor, 1.1mm if you are going to be revving it. good oil pump is a wise idea too. big sump too since you are going to rev it with all that gear 9,000rpm should be a walk in the park.
-
cool job mate.
-
yeah I agree, you need 1.1mm restrictor. envy have found the same thing. with their big engines with good oil pumps they still get too much up to the head so have started making their own 1.1mm restrictors. boostdr is on the right track. 1.1mm orifice, and lower the oil pressure. at least if you have an MLS head gasket you should be right to re-use it.

i've had my car tuned at envy recently (put a nistune in my silvia that previously had power FC) and I was happy with the work. they supplied the ecu, board and tuned it. I would also be happy going to UAS. i've had my GTR tuned there before (long time ago, before nistune, it was a power FC tune) and I was also happy with their work. i haven't been to the others so can't comment on them. bear in mind any workshop has it's happy and un-happy customers. I would speak to a few tuners and just pick whichever one you are happy dealing with.

yeah agreed. all those little bolt on brackets that various companies make mostly do bugger all but add weight and restrict access to various bits. castor rod brace as above is good (i run one), strut braces (even better if you have one that triangulates to the firewall), but as above the cage will help stiffen things up a lot. forget the mickey mouse under floor bits.

for sure, the 8/9/10 MRs/GSR etc are all a bit 'blunted'. the AYC and ACD make them a bit numb to drive like you say you get lazy as if you go in too hot, no need to worry just pile on an arm full of steering, plant it and see what the car decides to do... the RS with mech LSDS front/rear and centre, and with the close ratio box means to drive it hard you are as busy as a one armed brick layer but the thing feels razor sharp in comparison and you know where the limit of traction is every time. in the tricky diff cars you never know quite where that grip limit will be. the DMS 50s are good but for sure the MCA are better. then again they cost more too so they would want to be better! -
wow, never seen it before mate. it is nasty. I can't see how missuse could do that, and as you said you don't mistreat the car anyway. poor casting, or most likely come contaminates in the casting process. bugger!

yeah sirRB, you're right, it's not always possible to have the start boost that close to target boost without spiking. especially with stock, or small twins like GTSS etc. mine would spike if i had start boost too close. it's just a matter of adjusting it down a bit or lowering the gain helps too. yeah the 2.7 definitely makes it torqier off boost and yes it does have 2530s with HKS actuators (not sure what pressure they are set to). it may be that they set the actuators to crack at like 1 or 1.2 bar so there's no need for the start boost setting.

yes, 34 GTR have ext temp sensor in the dump pipe and also have the cat overtemp warning sensor in the cat. the cat sensor is not that important, but if you are buying a new cat may as well get one that has provision for the sensor as it's nice to know if your cat is overheated/blocked/damaged.

yes the 0.86 housings are not the GTR housings so not a bolt on. and it would be a fair mismatch having 2 turbos with a tiny compressor and a 0.86 AR turbine housing, especially if you still have the same little wheel in it. waste of time. and there is no housing option for any of the HKS GTR bolt ons. GTSS are 0.64 and so are HKS 2530s for that matter.

yeah I had a nice little RX7, RZ model with some good gear. nothing facy, bilsteins, 250rwkw and an ear splitting exhaust (can kevlar seats etc) and they are a lovely handling car. so easy to balance on the throttle, they make a mundane driver look like fangio. you could get it wound up in 2nd, pull 3rd and it would just hang sideways and still hold a nice line with just a bit of work on the throttle. something like Rics with the proflex etc would be a dream, like you say they are capable in the right hands and still fun to drive in the 'wrong' hands. haha. any of the front running cars seem to spend the $ for big buck suspension, be it MCA/proflex, or $40K ohlins, or penske, or sachs or whatever. most of our aus guys go with the proflex though and they seem to stack up pretty well against gear that is double the price, and having murray local to give advise and set-up is pretty handy. I wouldn't really say the evo's are boring. they are stupid fast for their 'basic' spec sheet but they still need to be driven hard to get somewhere. -
can someone add me to some remote b-spec races? me in desperate of coin only got a measly 2mil at the moment. user name = beerbaron32 thks will return the favour of course as I can.

the seasonal races are good. lots of XP and not bad on the cash vs time equation either. now, who has a Ferrari F1 car I can borrow for the ferrari challenge? happy to lend my mazda 787B in exchange (it's far too much car for me anyway!!!).

lol at this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLr93p6fZ4A&NR=1 all it says to me is that the target market of R33 GTSTs is gay men.

thanks brad for that awesome triple post in a 3 year old thread. i'm sure it's a big help to everyone involved.

wow, that footage is unbelievable. so hard to imagine that happening. at the beginning there is a car driving down the street. at the end there are 3 storey buildings driving down the street...surreal.

please stop posting links to F40s for sale. for a moment it makes me consider selling my house and just living in an F40 and use the rest of the money for fuel... the way things are going at the moment it look like the end of the world is coming anyway so compared to property an F40 looks like a good investment. hell it might even enable me to outrun any impending tsunami?

yeah good point neil and I agree. everyone always whinges about poor spectator numbers at EC but the fact is there is only 1 stand and all you can see from it is turn 12, the straight and turn 1. the rest of the track may as well be underground. who wants to drag their family out there (only way to get there is drive), then pay big bucks to squat on a pile of landfill. you are absolutely right, get rid of all the bloody hills that obstruct viewing, build a few small, covered stands and people will come to watch. 1 day at eastern creek standing in the open can see you get burnt in the morning, wet in the arvo, then eaten by bugs in the early evening. not nice.

I reckon ric shaws RX7 is a pretty mean piece of gear for $40K. I'd rather that over the emo X for $70K. sure it may not be as fast in the hands of a mortal as the emo would be but the RX7 is way more fun and looks to be pretty well set-up over the years. you get a lot of car for $40K.... the 3 way adjustable proflex aren't cheap, nice cage, big PMU brake set-up, close ratio box, lots of nice bits. and after all Ric has done pretty well steering it (he can drive though too). -
not a huge fan of the matte black (but it's not bad) but I do really like the matte grey pic posted at the ring. that looks nice. and a bit different.

well you already own an R32 GTR which is reason enough in my book to stick around, and if any of the other mystery cars happen to be an F40 or a Maclaren (a real one, the 90s F1 of course) then please tell me you are female, single and like blokes like me with small peckers. conversely if you are a bloke, but gay and have the F40 AND the Maclaren then I'm willing to change.... in all seriousness. I owned an R35 GTR. I loved it. it was a great car. I imported mine myself (and 2 others for people I know) from japan. mine was an 08 model JDM with the jap spec launch control etc. it was a revelation. I've been lucky enough to drive some fancy cars over the years but at the time, for the money I couldn't think of a car I'd rather own at that price point. I love my nissans and my GTRs and still have 2 X R32 GTRs. but i've loved most cars i've owned for one reason or another. I've also owned 33 and 34 GTRs, RX7s, silvias, EVO and I even like the odd euro car. I LOVE some of the great porsches like the GT3, GT2, the 997 911 turbo is a super capable car, I adore the sound of a lamborghini gallardo V10 and if I had one I'd even consider the bloody convertible just so I could hear the engine at full volume better. I reckon the F430 is a great piece of gear too and drive very nicely and have a very distinctive note. everyone's intitled to their opinion about what car is great/good/better but try not to take it personally and try not to make it personal either. right now I'm longing for an E30 M3, and I would probably murder for an F40 or a Maclaren F1. those 2 are somewhat out of my budget sadly but maybe one day.... until then there are lots of great cars to enjoy.

Can Anyone Help With This R34 Gtr?
Beer Baron replied to lord_anubis1600's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
sorry I don't personally know the car but from the pics it looks pretty nice. the only thing that rings a small alarm bell with me is the "$1000 of resin work to restore the bonnet". that's an odd one. the VSII carbon bonnets are very nicely made and come painted on top and bare carbon underneath (with the vent also bare). not sure what happened to it that it needed a $1,000 repair job? I'm also a bit suspect on the 49,500 kms. I have seen a few R34 GTRs with that many kms. yes they are 10 years old, but a VSII with 50,000kms should have very firm seat bolsters still, that one looks a bit worn (though it could be from an overweight driver, a heavy driver will wear the bolster out much quicker than usual). all in all I'd say if you're after a VSII in white then it's definitely worth checking out. -
hard to see in the pic. is it the manifold itself or just the heatshield that's cracked?
