  1. looks good djr81, . carillos are top rods and the pistons look like mahle?
  2. there is only a few places it could be coming from if it's in the engine bay. there is basically only feed line to fuel filter, line from fuel filter to fuel rail, the fuel rail and injectors, then the regulator, then return line from the regulator. both the feed line and the return line meet up to hard fuel lines which come from the tank in the rear. it's unlikely any of the hard lines are leaking. check the points where the rubber lines meet up to metal hard lines. so check where the rubber lines meets the fuel filter, check where it meets the fuel rail, check the return line. it's possible one has a split that is leaking intermittently. I've had a car before that had braided fuel lines in the engine bay and it was intermittently leaking fuel. was a bastard of a thing. it would leak for a bit and absolutely piss out fuel. then without touching a thing it would stop and not happen again. had to replace some hoses and it went away.
  3. I am a big believe in the good jap intercoolers. many of the cheap chinese ones i've seen are rubbish. I would go for either a 70mm or 100mm thick ARC cooler. they are without doubt the best. they are light weight (very important being where they are located in the car), they perform very well and also allow good airflow through to the radiator (something which not many other intercooler makers consider or measure). the 100mm ARC cooler is plenty big ebough for lots of power. check out your cooler, it may be nismo, easy way to tell is measure the core (not the tanks, but the actual core) for thickness. around 60mm is stock. if it's closer to 100mm then it may be a genuine nismo core which is very good too. if it is nismo then keep it.
  4. agreed. at $350 for a new Z32 afm it's about the cheapest thing you can buy for a GTR... hell my oil change costs nearly that much by the time I fill it with nearly 8 litres of chrono 300V (extended sump). and oil's a consumable. you only have to buy the afm once.....
  5. spotting abu dhabi on a map is like trying to spot a spectator in the stands.... agree with benno about the live coverage. I watch it on fox (speed). so much better. the funny thing is due to CH7 pumping in so many ads speed have their own commentator who takes over for the bits that ch7 were on extended ad breaks. that's the main reason I can't stand to watch it live is all the bloody ads. I quite like cromley and he was not a bad steerer either (back in the day) and I am a bit of a skaife fan (yes I know I will be going to hell) and he usually has something intelligent to say. he has forgotten more about aus touring car racing that most will ever know having been in the game as a mechanic, driver, owner, manager, etc since he was a teenager. I hardly watched any races in 2010 but speed replayed the whole series over december and jan this year so I caught up. there was actually a few good races in the bunch I reckon. and yes, there is not much you could do to spoil bathurst. it's always a top race. you need some massive concentration to be able to drive HARD around that place lap after lap and still make it home.
  6. gold! I know holdsworth a bit and he seems ok. can't see him winning a decent fight though. lol. and yeah agree it was a bit iffy that whinecup didn't get the same penalty for the same infraction. it looked pretty clear cut and they had just handed out a drive through for the same kind of offence. should have been a no-brainer but they seem to be a bit light handed when it comes to certain drivers.
  7. cool thanks for the heads up.
  8. dunc, the people building cars for this style of event do it cause it's fun too. building the car is half the fun, and with it's relaxed set of rules it means they can do and try things that they would normally not be able to do in any type of competitive motorsport in aus. they do it cause they love it. just like you race in combined touring which is an uphill battle in a GTR which is hamstrung by rules that favour other models. you do it cause you love it and it's fun. some people get a thrill out of building that absolute balls out hand-grenade style car that if they can get everything right in one lap can cut a very fast lap. and there are plenty of like minded people there to compete against in similar machinery too. it's not for everyone, but it has it's place and the standard of cars people have produced to enter is amazing. people want to see those cars too.
  9. lol, it looks good mate. loving the progress, keep it coming!!
  10. nice idea. I am a bit shocked at the kms though. who the hell does an average of 1,250kms a year over 11years? Most Ferrari and lambos do double that or more! is it the worlds first collectible patrol?? lol. hopefully the big boy will get some decent torque with the turbo to pull the 35 and trailer as they are a fair bit of weight.
  11. will let you know if I want to shift the 2530s but they are quite nice for now on the 2.7. it's running a motec and makes for a very responsive set-up. just needs some more power up top. love the BBS LMs jack. I have some on my other 32. would LOVE these for my new 32. hmmm. very tempting. one of my fav R32 wheels but they do suffer a bit in the brake clearance department.
  12. oh, and agree with troy road speed is the way to go for the bottom axis on the dyno. also much easier to compare and does not allow people to 'lie' by doing runs in 3rd gear etc as it instantly shows up with the speed.
  13. troy. sell plazmadude plenum. refit old standard plenum with nice piping you had (i always liked it) buy or refit trust mani and trust gate (we both know they are both good bits of gear) enjoy. I agree the 100mm ARC core is too big. go to 70mm ARC core. they are same size as stock GTR core, are LIGHTER than a stock GTR core, flow more, cool more and also allow more air through to the radiator due to better design. that's what you want. then you will be on the path to greatness.
  14. grippiest tyre compared to what though? have you tried A050s or DZ03G or RE55s? comparing them to federal RS of course they will be better. they should be better than the RSRs too. but for a supposed proper semi they underperform pretty badly. for instance on an R35 GTR which was the last time I used a set they were slower around oran park (RIP) than the standard dunlop high performance road tyres.
  15. yeah it's true. not many head gasket issues in general but part of that is most people leaning on their 26s have already blown them for one reason or another and include a MLS or other good gasket of some kind in the rebuild. not many people running 25psi etc on the standard head gasket though that's not to say it'd necessarily be a problem. it's just that we have plenty of other weak points to deal with first! anyway, everyone has their own favourites. I've seen lots of good results with the tomei gaskets and have used a few myself and seen them re-used too. plus the kit the sell is quite good value as it includes all the main bits you need.
  16. exactly it makes no difference. and you should always send the oil through the filter first, then the core, then back to the engine. set-ups with the thermostat built into the filter head do exactly that. when cold oil travels from engine, to filter and back to engine, when hot it goes engine to filter to cooler then back to engine.
  17. nismoid. I believe he means a SINGLE Z32 AFM will not outflow your standard TWIN RB26 afms. so he's saying why bother going to a single Z32 when you could just have kept your twin standards afms. am I close?
  18. yeah just. well a 26 will but there are some considerations. like how much lift, duration etc as that affects how far out the valves go and the timing of their opening in relation to each other. the last thing you want is any valve on valve action. but yeah it should be ok.
  19. BTW what did lowndes do to ingall? all I saw was the two of them off track with ingalls car busted and lowndes with front damage (that was apparently repaired to get him back out but he then copped a penalty). I didn't see the replays as they must have been replaying it during the safety car which gets cut down a bit from the speed coverage.
  20. it was replayed on speedHD (and non hd) with all the safety car periods shortened etc. I recorded both races on fox and watched race 2 last night. it was not bad I thought? good battle between bright and courteny. I was glad to see courteny win the championship last year but it would have been cool to see bright get past him (and stay there) for the win. he drove a great race and certainly deserved a victory for it. I bumped into bright outside my office last year where he was doing promo work ahead of the homebush race and he's a good bloke. No win for 5 years is a bit of a dry patch and having BJR winless it would have been a big deal to those guys. I'll bet they'll be checking the size of courtenys fuel tank and surge tank after he somehow managed to run about 4 laps more on the same amount of fuel than anybody else.....
  21. yeah I can probably part with some of my spares. send me a pm. i'll see what's in the shed this weekend.
  22. bummer. even the "old" 08 JDMs play DVDs. They gave a cool DVD with the car and I watched it in the car. lol. and even funnier is I was in the DVD as I was at the GT500 launch way back when and nearly got run over by it. good times!
  23. without any issues? dundan? lol. maybe without any 'headgasket' issues but it's been in and out plenty of times!
  24. you can buy them direct from full race. I'm not sure any one in aus will be selling them here any time soon. the AUD is very strong vs USD at the moment so it's a good time to buy from there. R
  25. I don't know but having owned more than a dozen GTRs of every type from 32-35 I can tell you all of them (apart from the 35) are pretty sedate to drive in standard form. they make around 180kw at the wheels standard, and have way more grip than they do power. yes they handle quite nicely and will get around a track quite well but the acceleration feels pretty pedestrian. the good news is that just by doing: Power FC and tune boost controller set to 14-15psi (max) adjustable cam gears (get tuned together with the boost and the power FC) cat back 3.5inch exhaust pod filters or high flow panel filter your GTR will be making around 230-250rwkw and will be running mid-high 12s. plus it will now sound great, and feel much more exciting to drive. that's a lot of extra power for bugger all money. the downside is that to go any higher you will need: larger injectors new turbos (expensive and a fair bit of labour too) front pipes (and dumps too if you want to get the most out of things) oil cooler new afms are a good idea (bigger ones) better clutch (stock one is not good over 230kw really) some handling upgrades to make it fun to drive with more power more tuning upgraded fuel pump and the lists go on and on. but by now you'll have over 300kw and a very fast car, but it's by no means cheap any more. personally I'd consider buying one already modded but get it checked out by a reputable performance workshop that knows what they are doing and can spot the poorly modded cars from the good ones.
